  • good...she didnt take shit from nobody, respect if you want respect back....she was a true legend.

  • Good for her! If I were her I would have left the stage after seeing the Host in giant slippers and a paper hat. Clearly this show was not a serious or reverent production. It was just, as someone else who posted suggested, "a circus". Good for her for not only walking out but calling that woman who was laughing out for it. She is a Diva and deserves great respect. You dont laugh at a woman like that. ever.

  • Geesh I can't believe that lady had the nerve to insult Yma be

  • Lol, that was funny 1anglesolo :) gorgin

  • SHE IS A DIVA!!!

  • Here I'll save you some time go to 2:20

  • Fair enough...why did they come?! Just to be rude?!

    Good on you Yma...

  • what an ignorant person in the audience. Yma had every right to walk. She is an Icon and a legend. She doesn't need that!!

  • Good for her! How dare they! One of the great and original artists of all time and also a very nice person, as her fans will tell you. She made a fortune for Capitol Records.

  • Robert/Killer:

You said it all. That's pure exploitation of and straight-faced humiliation of Yma on the part of the producers. Good for her for voting with her feet.

  • Germans can be very stupid sometimes.... what a shame

  • @obamapuppies people can be stupid...

  • just a true diva would do this and she was a true diva with a wonderful talent i don't care i love her

  • a german laughing well i never

  • iam pessed i whanted to heare that song if only i can go back in time kick the ass that laughed

  • I remember this when it was broadcast about 20 years ago. Schmidts Mitternacht Show was an outrageous, crazy show that was full of scurrilous humor. Drag queens, silly costumes and lots of sexual humor of all kinds were simply a part of the show. I never understood why they booked her for this show and I really don't get why she accepted. I think she really over reacted and should have just gone with it.

  • she dont need this! Good job Yma!

  • Good for you, Yma -- I love you forever and will treasure in my heart every note and every song that you left us. That stupid audience did not deserve to hear you.

  • leave it to the GERMANS to be douchebags. Well done, Yma, you don't have to take such disrespect.

  • Well-done Yma. Hope you can read this in the heavenly places you may be, but the person laughing is certainly not well bread enough to even be in the same kilometre circle that you are. Sadly, such people breed more of themselves and the world slowly becomes more and more full of ill-bred afterbirths. I have met people with naught in their purses and even no purse at all in many cases, with better breeding than was displayed here, (even by the show’s presenter).

  • good for Yma for walking off the stage...what a dumb-ass bitch in the audience!

  • rest in power, yma sumac

  • Dude, I would have punched someone in the dick for laughing at Yma.

  • She should have never agreed to perform for that audience...She is way above that..

  • she wasgraet,they was stupit! that's it

  • The truth is, her "manager" at the time booked her on that ridiculous show. She was an idiot. The type of show was beneath her.

  • <3 her... great artist

  • she's got skills for sure, but it is funny. surely she's come across the idea that making bizarre noises with a serious expression will make people laugh. fair enough if she doesn't want to perform in that setting but a lot of people will be laughing at these youtube videos, whether they respect her as an artist or not. some of you are proper psycho btw, you have a really low tolerance for other people considering how intelligent you think you are

  • Que verguenza y mala educacion del publico!

    Eine Schande dieses Publikum!

  • Who is he? He's a real idiot!

  • good decision!

  • Well done Ymaaaa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ima uao She got waht is call huevos in my lovely Peruuu,,

  • HAHAHA! Yma was like "Wow, congratulations....now someone famous hates you."

Such a stupid and ignorand person in the crowd...how uneducated and immature would you be to have the honour of witnessing a talent like that and laugh at it? boy, now everyone who was there and everyone who ever watched this video hates that lady in the crowd. Hope it was worth for her laughing.

  • I.S. was probably paid lots of money TO SING at this stupid show. Not to walk off.

The audience paid to enter and each one has the right to react as they wish.

    Money rules!

  • @1401JSC Money does not rule, as evidenced by the fact she walked off stage. Treating someone with respect, someone you paid to see, should come before anything else.

  • @1401JSC by the outcome obviously not in this case

  • They are so RUDE to laugh at the great Yma Sumac!! What is there to laugh at? A great singer who sings a beautiful song for their entertainment? Curses for the rudeness. I cannot blame her for leaving and so angry. What an insult to her!

  • That women who laugh probably is a poor woman with an octave vocal range with a quite poor technique and with no brain since the stupid one didn't know who she was laughing at.

  • DIVA!!!

  • wow... she deserved respect from people because to sing is an art... She should not have accepted to participate in a comedy show.... Yma Sumac´s audience corresponds to a more high level public.

  • stupid audience !

  • STUPID GERMANS!! Why do they always have to ruin the best things!

  • THIS IS THE ACTITUD MISS YMA SUMAC =)!!!!!!!!!

  • This is an absolute shame. Where was that taped? What a bunch of ignorants! Yma Sumac was one of the human wonders of the world.

  • Stupid lady. Poor idiot ignorant. Yma is one of the best singers ever in the world.

  • She did the right thing, I wanna slap those people in the face for laughing at her......

  • Love her!!!! Her legacy will live on...

  • This legend deserves a better audience. I'm speaking for my generation to please respect Yma Sumac.

That's all.

    She's YMA SUMAC!!

  • Wow. She's got balls.

  • What a ridiculous stage - not worth a legend like Miss Sumac, and then this clown with the flowers, oh my. :) It makes me sad to see such a legend like her on such a pathetic stage with such a dumb audience. I am glad to see that she left this "circus" - a very good decision !!

  • @RobertDominkovic What did she expect, performing on a notorious trash variety show? This wasn't exactly Carnegie Hall from the beginning and she must've known it. Her agent should have been shot for booking her into that!

  • @BlueCougar well, shi didn't know. we cannot know everything by default.

  • @BlueCougar: co sign!!!

  • @RobertDominkovic Yes you are right! wondering why she did this I don't understand.

  • brilliant!!!!

  • YMA is a giant ...

  • That lady must've felt like the biggest asshole lol Respect talent! Love Yma!

  • bien ahi PERU!!!! que tal mujer y que tal voz!!!respeto senora cantante!!!

  • VOTE FOR YMA SUMAC!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mado Robin and Mady Mesple used their ultra high notes as an extension of their singing actual music. This lady though seems to have made a cult out of it. Range is raw material. No need to dress it up with pseudo Incan mumbo-jumbo. She doesn't seem to be serious at all about MUSIC but promoting a rather questionable image.

  • @zamyrabyrd - Yma Sumac is presenting us with her Peruvian heritage. After all, she wrote 5,000 songs! I very much appreciate learning about the culture through her and the unique songs she give has given us. We are richer for having known this fine singer. See her fine performance of "Pachamama", it's unforgettable!

  • yma was very serious about music...yma was a FIGHTER...she would probs

knock some one out...back in 1940's she draged a lady with her hands lol

..but am noot sure who the lady was she draged..its was fast,,,i was like where did

    the lady go lol

  • @BlackcakesFL the fight was on tape..check...la castafiore lnca part 1

  • A gangsta in a classy, beutiful form.

  • Yma Sumac. Brilliant. Respect !! R.I.P. DAVEDJ

  • The insolent whore who laughed at Yma should have been stripped naked on stage and flogged, then humiliated.

  • @64098 And then the stinking pig that was stripped and humiliated on stage should have Yma play "hide the microphones" with her. Yma wins with that one. Yma RULES!!

  • WELL DONE YMA !!! IT'S HARD ENOUGH TO BE IN THE CENTER OF THE STAGE WITH A VERY BIG RESPONSABILITY ON THE SHOULDERS AND THEN PUT UP WITH A "STUPID-AUDIENCE-MEMEBER" NO WAY NO WAY!!!!

  • Totally diva, I agree with her, artist should be respected in every way.

  • That's right Yma

  • Opss they thought she weird..shes not i think now days more ppl get her

  • ppl back then didnt take yma sumac suriously because they she was weird

i like yma sumac she was a gife

  • how dare they laugh, this is obviously a very serious program, as you can surely tell from the presenter's clothes.

  • i love you yma sumac

  • Good for Yma! I don't blame her for walking off. I hope she spooks that audience member from beyond the grave.

  • it is an Inca princess!!!!!!!!! SHE IS A DIVA AND I LOVE HER

  • That's what I call a peruvian temper! We call it as we see it and tell it straight to anybody's face! She wast going to put up with that.. She is a DIVA!

  • Thats a diva, FANTASTIC

  • Stupid people!!!

  • Good for Yma! She didn't need to stand there and watch some hyper critical woman attempt to undermine her while Yma was trying to sing.

Yma behaved properly. Let the critical snickering woman be looked at as a trouble maker instead of Yma swallowing it and getting through it.

Attempting to do that would make her even more tense in the throat.

Clearly she and her voice are older. She can still hit those notes. And it shouldn't matter whether she can or not. She is and always will be a legend.

  • Yma became quite thin skinned in her later years. I think she may even have come to believe that she was 20,000 years old.

  • Menopausic! LOL

  • @keskus2000 mo th er f u c k er!

  • I think they should have kicked the bitch who laughed @ Yma out of the theatre so the audience could enjoy Yma"s show instead....

  • @zoila1010 Are we sure that an audience member laughed? Are we sure it was at Yma? Or was it just in Yma's imagination? If an audience member laughed at Yma, it was in poor taste. But Yma exhibited far worse taste, displayed her own lack of confidence, and did the rest of the audience a disservice by storming out like that. Shame on you, Yma!

  • @sbergman27 looks like u didn't get what I said:...I meant:..she shouldn't have left the stage..instead they should have get rid of whoever laughed @ her..a bitch or a jerk they should have been asked (him or her) to leave the room...I don't think the rest of the audience didn't deserve to be punished for a freaking idiot ignorant , they paid to see a show. If it was true or not....well only her and the one who laughed @ her knows it.

  • @zoila1010 : Honestly, I'm not sure that anyone was laughing at her. Maybe they were, and maybe they weren't. Yma, in her later years, was pretty sensitive. This specific incident is not of universal importance. But I think I would have felt better if she had simply had the confidence to go on and ignore it. For Yma's sake. Not yours, nor mine, nor that of the audience. She was talented enough that she didn't need to worry about some woman in the audience laghing at her.

  • OLD FOOL !

  • Yma was absolutely right to walk off this show. There is nothing 'proffessional' in being used as a prop for lame, dumb, humour. The presenter and his audience should be stood naked in the town square for a whole day a piece and ridiculed by the public.

  • Well done Yma.

  • I think the trouble started at 2:03 oh man Yma's antenna went up. She tried to plea with the idiot but he wasn't backing her up. I would hate to be on the receiving end of her gaze and her scorn oh man.

  • It's a simple matter of respect. Scorned like children. I would feel like the biggest dunce/douche on the planet if I had caused that.

  • I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!!so proud and strong like any powerful woman like her should be!

  • ahaha hey , hey ., . . she was a princess. . . .that lady had to be proud to heard her.... that show sucks. . . (sucked)..

  • I feel bad for her, Such a lovely voice and people laughed at her? Sad

  • I respect her so much and I understand her frustation and her reaction, but I think she should have controlled her reaction, because she was a professional and when you are in front of audience you will find very intelligent people that know toapprecite and "rats" who only want to destroy the other ones, but the other part of the audience was listening to her (not all the audience was laughing). I think that the person that should have gone was the girl who was laughing, not YMA.

  • Yma Sumac had a marvelous voice. Voice of tha Xtabay is one of my most cherished albums. But let's face it. She wanted to be famous forever. She married Moises Vivanco, associated with Les Baxter, and pretended to be an Incan Princes. And probably was, along with a few thousand other Peruvian women. She was forgotten for a couple of decades, but had a second hey day in the early 90s. Do a search for "Mambo Confusion". It's great. A 70 yr old Yma still had it. But I'm not sure she believed it.

  • i don't see anything funny, such a goddess standing on the stage singing the sound of heaven, i don't know if anyone on earth could sing like her, wat a marvelous voice

  • wich such art, there needs to be a presence of silence, and immature houlagans should not be tolerated. It takes extreme effort to make a performance.

  • I saw Ms. Sumac not once, but twice, in a tiny club in Boston (1982). The first time she was still writing the parts out for the musicians who accompanied her, hunched over the baby grand and passing out sheets. It was clear that this bunch had never heard her music; by the end of the show she was clearly upset - their playing was lackluster at best. 5 days later I went back: it looked as if the band had been replaced entirely, and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. An amazing woman.

  • well. on the one hand, you have to be humble on the stage, say the performers. on the other hand, she is the only one with a voice ranging 4 (maybe 5) octaves. maybe a stfu, bastard would do. but then it is rude... hard to decide :)

Y racista, claro.--- Ms. Sumac did what she had to do, leaving in an offended and dignified way.

  • She has always been a diva, and diva have strong tempers...RIP

  • She's pure talent! WTF were they laughing at? Way to go Lady Yma!

  • Rest In Peace, Yma Sumac. I am rediscovering your Exceptional talent but only decades later... People such as those poor laughing ladies with their ridicule and contempt of life are insult to intelligence in all times.

Viva Yma!

  • this took place in Hamburg, I thought germans were more respectful at art..

  • @panpinponponio75 And I thought panpinponponios were less prejudiced. Attacking a whole people because of a few idiots doesn't make you look smart. This was not the Hamburg State Opera she was in. This kind of things happens when you perform in a cabaret theatre. People are half-drunk and don't pay attention all the time. (I still think she was right to leave the stage. Performing takes a huge deal of concentration, esepecially for such an intimate and emotional song.)

  • q saben d buena musica estos gringos

  • Just plain unprofessional. NO ONE is so great a talent as to have contempt for the audience. You play the game, you play by the rules. Even Genius must be tempered by humility.

  • She's over there bearing herself in a song and if she thinks the woman is laughing at her, then she can walk off the stage if she feels like it. I wouldn't want to be doing something like SINGING a particularly sentimental song while a woman laughs at me. Too bad for the rest of the people in the audience though.

  • I dont see her getting furious anywhere - she is actually quite polite. However, what about the rest of the audience, who were nice to her - didnt they count?

  • Such a GREAT voice. I doubt there will ever be one like this again in my lifetime. Just BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • @mortitio Diamanda Galás but she's different than miss Ymac Sumac.

  • Her speaking voice is so soft---such a contrast from her strong singing voice.

I would rather have seen more of the performance---I don't think there are any DVDs for sale that capture her live.

  • Bravo, to get the guts to do this, only very strong person can do this. Bravo

  • bien hecho carajo, grande yma

  • there's this par that was cut in the middle, we want to know what happened, they've so rude and impolite to the princesse diva yma

  • se fue como las grandes

  • Only divas are permited to do this...she was a diva after all, what can we do

  • @ollanta460 it's not about being a diva,it's about having respect and consideration infront of a very good and special artist...I'm sad of watching this, the lack of respect, the ignorance how someone can laugh is beyond me.

  • The couple times I saw her late in her career she was very cranky toward the (no doubt under-rehearsed, local-pickup) bands that played with her.

I agree it's rude to laugh at a performer, but for all we know the woman at the audience might have been laughing at something a friend said, which then got misinterpreted by Yma. She definitely had a hair-trigger temper the times I saw her.

  • They should've kicked out the one who laughed at her!!

And that german host acts like a jerk at the end! Show respect to Yma!! She's a legend and Diva.

  • Whoa. I want to be her when I grow up.

  • me gustaria que alguien me explike ke paso

    jojojoj

  • Madame Yma Sumac deserved respect and she had all the right to walkout of the stage for the stupid laughs thrown at her! Her voice was truly an amazing instrument.

  • It's a given that the audience need to respect the performer. It's also a given that you have to respect the elderly. However, in Yma's case, you also have to remember that she descended from Atahualpa. You do NOT laugh at royalty.

    GO YMA!

  • Yikes!

  • I can imagine how she felt. She is very passionate about what she does and that was just low. She is amazing to me.

  • People who laugh in front of the artists must be kicked out. Yma is too special to be laughed at, she was a rare precious gift for the music...We miss you!

  • @AnasTangi I agree. Whoever the huzzy was, that was laughing at here couldn't hold a candle to Sumac!

  • @AnasTangi : My opinion? Yma had a talent. She was doubted. Largely ignored. Full of herself. And very insecure. Voice of the Xtbay was brilliant. She coasted the rest of the way... Except I can't deny that Mambo Confusion was cool. Magenta Mountain, too. (I still play Xtbay on my 1942 Magnavox. Both in my family since they were new.)

Audience members shouldn't have laughed at her. But I wish she'd had the confidence to go on. For her sake. I like Yma.

  • Bravo

  • Good for Yma !!! Obnoxious members of the audience ought to be removed from the hall after they apologize to the performer.

  • La mas Grande Diosa Peruana!!

  • I can appreciate how she must have felt; however, as professionals we need hang in there for all our fans in the audience who would never laugh as us. I've had other performers do some rude things while I was on stage and I just kept going. I confronted the rude people at a later date and swore never to perform in the same room with them ever again.

  • Perfeita!!!!!!!!

  • I can understand her reaction, nevertheless- she should have keep on singing and shut the rude women up by her art.

  • GRANDE YMA!!!!!

  • respect

  • You can't see the "woman who laughed at Yma" in this video but Yma maintains eye contact with the audience so she did see her @ 2:23... it's disrespectful to a veteran, elderly singer with a voice that was still amazing, even if fainter. Yma had every right to exit the stage. She had been a hugely successful singer in the 50's. These German idiots had no right to insult her

  • @MastersoftheOpera Well said but it's disrespectful to ANYONE, established or otherwise.

    saludos
