  • My family loves with without the cheese. Also add in golden raisins and sunflower seeds.Mmm! Just a little pricey to make.

Anymore I buy it ready made from the deli at Wal-Mart. Locally they are always sold out of it so I know it's fresh and it's only $3 per 16 oz. container so it's about the same price overall. If you don't see any in the window just ask and they'll prepare you some fresh!

  • I`m sorry but to destroy everything that is good in the broccoli with bacon??? Totally illogical...why putting that in your body???

  • I hate hate mayo!!!!

  • @franrl1959 You could try a bit of plain yogurt in its place.

  • I don't believe people would actually eat that. This is some kind of hoax.

  • May not be 100% healthy but it is good.I have to have it aleast 1st a mo.

  • I'm no culinary expert but it seems like a perfectly good recipe to me, and as with most recipes you have lots of room to maneuver with this one. I'll blanch the veggies & as always I'll grate my own cheese :) Bacon makes complete sense in this salad, but without it can be OK too. You don't ALWAYS have to be a slave to heart health ;) The important thing is not to kid yourself that anything called a "salad" is necessarily healthy and OK to eat all the time.

    Thanks for this video :)

  • Nice.

  • This was good up until the bacon and cheese. This took the word "healthy" out of the equation. But thanks I enjoyed watching. Thank you.

  • @nemoryer I'm glad you liked it.

  • @nemoryer The bacon IS healthy. The cheese is not.

  • @leomnyc They are both "Healthy"... just not in north american quantities.

  • This looks good, but I can't help noticing that you put a LOT of sugar in it. You would probably need less of the vinegar if you didn't put all that sugar in and you'd save yourself from all those hidden calories. =)

  • You were absolutely DELICIOUS

  • looks soo good thankyou

  • My wife don't add all the stuff in there cause it messes it up for us.

  • yeah you should steam it a minute because raw broccoli can cause a tummy ache:( nice recipe..

  • Wow this salad looks tasty. The only thing that looks tastier is the host! She's so hot!

  • There was one time I tried to put the broccoli in microwave for 2 mins. Then I got it really bitter. So is it okay to eat them fresh ?

  • I used soy cheese and mayo because im vegan and just forgot the bacon because the soy alternative is terrible. This is no side dish for me its good enough for a meal :)

  • this is a fablous southern recipe...i absolutely love it. i am making it tonight.i bought the craft mayonaise made with olive oil ,, it taste great and awhole lot less fat,, turkey bacon, and a good cheddar cheese...yumm

  • delicious1

  • i make this recipie---low fat version. you can use bacon-bits which is healthier than bacon, or try center cut bacon, i also add cranraisins and add celery seed for extra flavor.

  • Looks tasty!

  • Looks good, but why so much bacon? A pound. I will cut that in half.

  • love does start in the kitchen, if you know what i mean :D

  • I can't eat broccoli raw :-s

  • the broccoli stems are the best part. I love them for snacks.

  • VERY NICE

  • Rita ...I thought the salad looks delicious and your tutoral was great...keep up the good work...♥

  • No. You have to use bacon or you can't make it.

  • Rita - I just discovered your videos and I love them! You can bet I will be trying this recipe - I love broccoli but have gotten tired of the simple sautee I usually make as a side dish. Planning on using turkey bacon - I am sure it will be delicious!

  • cut the bacon and the sugar and i would eat that.. otherwise its not too healthy...... its not at all.

  • well,im shure it must taste really good..

But i eat salads to eat fresh, If i put bacon and that creepy cheddar in a bag, theres no reason to make a salad anymore rsrs

  • Started off good, then came the bacon and packaged cheese. YUCK!

  • @RawBabies oi shutup racist

  • @yeahsonable Wow! You're a smart one!!

  • lookd amazing!

  • hello, great video clip - You explain things very well n cover all areas - many never mention (as a alter or substitute) or like how long to cook n what temp n or boil for aprox how long. I only have one ejective n that is the 1/2 cup of sugar in the dressing / ruin the recipe for me

  • U eat it raw???

  • ~ I make this alot in the winter...So yummie! But I make the dressing w/ mayo., balsamic vinegar & 1 Tbsp. of dijon mustard....nix any sweetner. Yum! (((^.~)))

  • I like urs better Will try ,but I cant have bacon So that is out the door ^_^

  • awesome video ! i like to learn the recipes from you . Thank you for sharing .

    nutier

  • Pretty good! looks yummy! Thx qualqui and Rita for the great salad recipe to go with my fried chicken. Mmmm 5/5

  • Hi Rita, favin' this vid,.....AWESOME!!!

  • I'd eat this, no doubt. I bet it tastes good without the bacon, as well!

  • I was thinking something like: "woow! a raw recipe!" but then you put bacon :D anyway, did you know that eating raw makes people healthy for the rest of their lives?

    Byez

  • lol i thought the same thing!!

  • same thing i thought here, raw broccoli?!! this i gotta try! = )

  • Amazing gonna make it tomorrow on dinner Exept we dont have brocolle T_T ( I am 12 xDDD)...

  • This was ABSOLUTELY delicious

  • I'm so glad you liked it! Thanks for letting us know. ~Rita

  • She doesn't recomend using miracle whip, while she adds sugar to the mayonaise? Isn't that what mirale whip is.... sugary mayonaise?

  • wow cool recipe

  • OMG, I love the recipe but my goodness you use all the naughty ingredients..bacon, sugar, regular mayonnaise...I'm sure it takes delicious though...

  • WHAT ?!

  • some nutritionists state that raw broccoli is not digestable, in the sense that we can get just almost no nutrients from it when it is raw... that is the reason why many raw vegans don't eat broccoli... however the salad looks great, it was a pleasure to watch the video!

  • That's good to know, but did you know that ANYONE can call themselves a nutritionist? There is no registered or recognised training for this job snd the title therefore means nothing? So, all I'm saying is, be careful what you believe when its stated by a 'nutritonist'.

  • Is this so in the States? Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist? I honestly didn't know! Where I live (Japan) "Nutritionist" is a National Certification profession so nobody can call themselves a nutritionist without the certificate... Thank you for the information I will be much more careful!

  • Hi, can you use Honey as the sweetner and have the same results?

  • I think that would work fine - I would use less, though.~Rita

  • i dont eat pork,instead of bacon,what can i use?

  • I just tried the recipe sans bacon (I have 2 kids who are semi-vegetarians) and it was really good! The other day I made it with Splenda instead of sugar and it was great. I've also made it with Stevia and that turned out good, too. ~Rita

  • Glad you like the recipe. Let us know how it turns out! ~Rita

  • I love raw broccoli!

  • I've always loved the broccoli salad on the buffets. The bacon and cheddar are must-haves for me.

  • looks amazing

  • that looks so delicious! umm.. can i just use vinegar? what can i use other than red wine vinegar?

  • Try cider vinegar - that should work, too.

    Rita

  • Cider vinegar is fine is it? then must try. but since she is using red wine vinegar...i wonder if its ok to add a wee bit of red wine to it?? =D

  • looks so yummy.

  • wagrunge asked, "Any other substitutes for cheese? Can i use parmesan?"

How about trying Swiss - that would work well. Parm might be too strong but if you like it, try it and use less.

    Rita

  • My boo loves broccoli, so this salad is a stand by recipe I make often for him sometimes i add halved cherry tomatoes to it I have everything to make this recipe so me and my babe will be haveing broccoli salad for lunch tomorrow thnx for the video :)

  • I work on the Delta Queen Steamboat and one of our cooks make this and use dried cranberries and it is SOOOOO ood:-)

  • Thanks!~Rita

  • I add raisins in my broccoli salad delicous.

  • This is quite unhealthy, I suggest to leave out the bacon and replace the sugar with Honey.

  • bacon = poor pig

  • You can certainly leave it out. ~Rita

  • I want Broccoli XD

  • This is one of my favorite salads!

  • rita your salad is great

  • ~Thanks!

  • Thanks!! I tasted this recipe in a party and It was delicious..but i didn't know how to do it until now...Thanks!!

  • I have looking for this recipe. Thanks so much!!!

  • So many people refuse to eat ANYTHING green, or even any vegetable. (I know several people who order cheeseburgers specifically without lettuce, tomato, or pickle, even!) I would rather someone have some bacon and mayo and cheese if it means they will eat, and possibly learn to enjoy, a "super food" such as broccoli.

  • wow guy absolutly delicious!!! and so easy!!! Thanx

  • I made this tonight but I left out the bacon and cheese. In addition to the broccoli and onion I added shredded carrots, raisins, cranberries, and walnuts...light mayo- a little bit of splenda and a dash of lemon juice. This is probably my favorite dish.

  • Oh yeah...the cranberries I used were dried...felt I should note that.

  • Tried this and loved it.

I tried a lowfat version- sorry to add on to this lovely recipe.

I only used 2 matchbox size blocks finely grated

I used Fat free mayo, and only quater cup and added Rice vinegar to make up the ammount used in the Video.

I used rindless turkey bacon which is by far healthier than bacon.

I also added one apple cut up, and it made a huge difference.

Very nice taste indeed and not even half the Fat. It was FABULOUS!

  • I meant 2 matchbox size portions of lowfat cheese.

  • This recipe looks great! I agree that bacon and cheese is not the healthiest items one can consume. But what's that old adage...something about moderation.

  • You're sure right about that! But so many people need to find a way to get any veggie in to their diet. I've got to admit, the dressing isn't too healthy - but it is delicious.

Try no-fat mayo, light cheese and leave out the bacon - it's still great. ~Rita

  • another sub for cheese is grated carrot :)

  • Great idea. ~Rita
