How would you go about connecting this to obtain mechanical power and not just thrust. I am also wondering if you could use this to produce electricity somehow.
Do you have any idea how much stuff im going to break/set on fire trying to make one of these when I get home from work? You really should think about the consequences before you post videos of stuff this awesome.
reaaly good job like it a lot's i love it ....but mate can you tell me whay when using a car turbo to make a jet engine needs oile !! and the ather jet engine the small one or the one that you by it don't need oil hoo o_0 !!dose it ..please help because i'm gona make my first jet engine and it's realy simple tomorow and i want to now exactly what to use and thx a lot for the help
Also instead of pushing the air with a turbine/fan combo, try putting a cog-wheel (gear wheel) where the fan blades would be, connect a chain to a transmission and a clutch, and it should be pretty fast and rev up in between the straits.
Does this motor run on gasoline but spins like a turbine, or is it a jet fuel motor that also spins like a jet turbine? I think the patent on turbines is held and not sold or something, b/c they seem to be more powerful and fuel efficient than 2 or 4 stroke....also I think 4-stroke is the only legal one for road use, and the patent is held by a corp and sold to a few only.
Very impressed with your work. Wanted to ask few questions:
1. How much this project cost (building it from zero)?
2. How exactly did you knew proper pressure and temp values?
3. How did you managed to apply those values, so your engine simply would not either explode or get it's blades burned out? (I mean how to control pressure and temps?)
4. What are internal blades and exhaust tube made of?
5. You said something about switching fuel to kerosine - what would that do - more RPM with more temp?
Big ups to you my man. This is a perfect design. Your understanding of blowing hot air is pretty superior. I can tig weld stainless as well as you can. Maybe I will sign up for a prototyping class at a community college. I could use access to some machinery. I need to build build a couple blowers with as much thrust as I can get. I think someone at some point or another proved that you can have a good time with 2 jets.
hey mate just wondering what the chances would be of you drawing up some plans for this as I would really like to build one as I am currently studying to be an aircraft mainenance engineer and would really like to build one as a display sort of thing. any help would be really appreciated. Thank you
Whow, pretty cool! I looked at the still pics, but still, I don't see any that show how you actually made the parts for yourself. How do you make your own parts?
Most back yard builders rig up one single flame can feeding the pipe on the hot side, but after looking at the pics on photobucket I see you have built a complete annulus combustion chamber. At first, I was looking for an extended shaft, but with this design, no need.
Maybe some day you'll build something as big as a PT 6.
You mentioned that you were going to set this turbine up for Diesel. How did it go? Did you run into any problems with overheating? Also, did you use evaporator tubes or the high-pressure injectors? Did you have to do anything to your hole pattern to keep the flame mostly confined to the "primary zone" in your flame tube?
I have to say that this is the most beautifully presented engine of its type. Very well thought up design and nice assembly work to boot. Does it develop any usable thrust? Also, I noticed that the jet pipe passes thru the CC? Do you utilize some kind air bypass from the compressor to cool it?
wow this is super cool, especially considering it was homebuilt. what engine is the ST50 turbocharger fit on? is it possible to create a turbofan this small or are most engines of this type, for instance those fitted on remote-controlled airplanes, like this one you've built?
my father was intelligent men, he used to spend his time for staff like in this video, me and mom always scared from his toys, one day he brought home big old factory heating machine big like a truck, we don't know what he did but he exploded the garage and half of the house, my father stack in hospital a few weeks burned his hands and face, he said he was tuning up the machine, since then i don't go close to the items like this,
hey i'm trying to make one of those, i know the front is a regular turbo, but what's at the back. i really dig your design. i'm trying to make one myself.
Am I missing something in the design? I know most turbochargers are radial-radial design, but it looks like you completely built the turbine section as an axial design. I assume the cylinder behind the compressor contains the combustion chamber/turbine and I do not see how a turbo exh-half could fit in that cylinder. Did you take the housing off the exh-half turbine and built a housing so that the exhaust gasses flowed around the turbine from all sides "axially"?
@TheMasterJ1995 An ST50 turbocharger, and plenty of patience. I included more info in the 'more info' section for this video and have a link embedded to some build pics. Other than that, would suggest doing a search for DIY Gas Turbines in Yahoo Groups. Tons of info, pics, and lots of enthusiasts on the site. good luck.
@coldriderF4 ,please take a moment to reply on my question, how strong is this turbine?,,just for example if you put that turbine on man`s back, could that turbine lift him up?..thank you..
@mianistiv , If you put this on my back, I might fall over :-). The total thrust I was able to measure was approx 60lbs, which wouldnt even be enough to lift itself off of the ground. Although if connected to an afterburner or gearbox assy on a kart, it'd make for a fun ride.
@coldriderF4 khm..thank you for answer...But is it possible to make gas turbine,,small like keyboard and powerfull like this one?just curious..=)thank you for youre time.
@mianistiv the reason he didn't answer your question is because its retarded. That engine wouldn't even lift a dog. By the inlet size you could estimate 60lb thrust max, if you add an afterburner maybe 100lb.
Hmmm... It cant produce very much power!, if it would then it would not stay in one place on the ground, if it was powerful it would slide on the ground wouldnt it??
? Sorry but I cant see any movment? What I am trying to say is that I think it just makes noise and little power! a 1hp piston engine would have made moving force that this machine.
The machine is probably very nice built and all but I cant see the use of it?
It would have slided along the ground but the operator throttled back to stop it from doing so. You must have not seen these things in action, someone else who built on of these and he put on a vehicle and got 50pmh out of it!
I know that it moves but the power is not much! I if you loo how much fuel it takes and how much work it can do its propably one of the least effective machines ever. BUT I still think its a cool machine...
Yeah certainly is best on YouTube. So the air flowing out of the turbo goes into it, out the chute on the side, then goes into the combustion chamber? Or is it a more linear structure where the air goes in the turbo then straight back
"SPB282008" that its the best designed turbine ive seen on youtube. Great work.
Diesel engines and turbine engines are my passion. Since diesels usually use massive turbos the connection was a no brainer. Though, I know way more about diesel engine than I do about turbines.
Do a search for electric ducted fan. Basically it's a really powerful electric fan in a turbine form. They use them on R.C. planes a lot but some companies build really high power ones that contend with the jet fuel powered.
Those are the ones with electric brushless motors.
Some could easily power a manned craft.
There are also AIR powered jet turbines.
Compressed air drives a paddle wheel, they hit 20,000 RPM's easy.
I think power requirements are what keep the fuel powered in wide use.
Wish I had the time and shop space to build something like this. The potential is so high especially since you can build a light weight vehicle and just slap this and a fuel tank on it.
Gotta check out the electric turbines floating around. Some of them get 60 lbs of thrust, sometimes more, and are the size of a large coffee can.
the original scroll is hidden inside this. its fake which is why we never see the output nozzle of the compressor scroll or the internals up the exaust.
OMG this is the most powerful, Most badass thing I have seen. YOU NEED TO MOUNT THIS ON SOMETHING PLEASE!
