Hi Lok,

If I record a video on a 5D mk2 with 24-105 IS, I can hear the IS.

I was wondering how much you hear the IS if you use an external mic. attached to the hotshoe ?

Although it's external, it still is closest to the lens.

Can anyone recommend a Canon lens with both a large aperture and IS. The 50mm series unfortunately do not have IS so i'm unsure on what lens to get :S

I have a Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 OS

Aperture is larger than the kit lens, but not larger than primes, IS/OS helps everywhere.

Its sharp enough.

The Canon 17-55 f2.8 IS is a great lens. It's USM motor isn't as silent as it should be, so you may need an external mic.

@driftapex variable aperture is not good to shoot video because when you zoom, your exposure will change and will make your videos look rubbish

@lwh110391 I think he means fully manual so manual on your camera and turn auto focus off - though to be honest if your on a wide lens and objects are more than a few feet away the camera will generally focus at infinity anyway so you'll probably be ok either way have a go with it on and watch what the lens does and see if you need it on or not. Having the camera on fully manual is always great advice though once you get used to it you'll be so much more comfortable in different conditions.
