I work in Chicago. I'm an avid NPR listener. Several years ago I heard Barak Obama on a local broadcast. I was impressed. I heard him a second time and I was REALLY impressed. I had no idea what kind of a name Barak Obama was. It was not until he ran for the US that I learned of his heritage. I was impressed LONG before I knew he had skin darker than my own. During his Senate campaign, I remember calling a friend and telling her, "Some day, that guy's going to be our president." True story.

I don't speak about the prediction either, don't want to be labled a Monday morning quarterback. But, I told my father 2 years ago that this would come. After 23 years of military duty overseas, the last 4 were too embarassing for me to continue. We don't need to be loved, but respected does not mean bullying third world countries.

Folk this is because of these people are running away from republicans.Their politics is dividing America. So it is now clear that Joe liebermann supports MCcain because of his race. It is now clear to me that Rush Limbaugh himself supports MCcain because of his race. If this is not true why Powell cannot support obama on issues. I am very dissappointed in Republicans. They seems to go agains everything they stand for.

I think that is a typo, Gen Powell DOES support Obama's ideas and said so. He was very clear that McCain did not seem to have a clue and Obama had better ideas and policies, more in line with the center (his and my political preference).

Lieberman & Rush vote on ideology, right wing conservative. If McCain was black, a Colin Powell type, I guarantee they wouldn't switch to a white Dem.
EVEN MORE IMPORTANT Powell is not endorsing on PARTY or ideology. He's a centrist like I'm. Powell thinks a rational moderate mix between right & left, is best. Powell's words speak clearly on their own & why he endorses Obama. What hurts, he's part of the Republican party.

We could ask Sec. Powell if he supported Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Shirley Chisolm or Alan Keyes. And I guess we could assert that Joe Lieberman supports McCain because McCain is white. I suppose we could ignore the endorsements of Chris Buckley, Chris Hitchins, Andrew Sullivan, Chuck Hagel's wife, Lincoln Chafee and more conservative and moderate Republicans/Independents. Let Pat Buchanan and Rush Limbaugh reveal themselves for what they are. Like Olbermann says, it's called projection.

Powell did say he thinks Obama's presidency would signal that great progress has been made in race relations. But he said he was endorsing him because he has leadership ability and a modern outlook that would be good for the country. As usual, Rush takes a prosaic view of a complicated issue. Perhaps its time he stops setting the agenda for the RNC.

Powell's statements very clearly state the centrist ideology... Our country has gone too far right and it is necessary to switch it up occasionally. I prefer this democrat.. I did not support Bush or Kerry last time around. Like powell stated.. this next president will be likely to be appointing two supreme court justices. I don't think any one party should have that large of a majority. That hurts their ability to unbiasedly uphold the constitution which is their job.
