  • Why don't u just feed rabbits

  • @kings2727

Because I don't have any rabbits, but I do have lots of big rats.

    Brian / FGS

  • How old was big mama? I just rescued a big female boa. I named her Big Gall... Kinnda for me to commemorate big mama. ;)

I hope to breed Big Gall with my male hypo jungle, Dagger.

Big Gall's around 6.5' now, and Dagger is around 4.5'.

How often should I feed my new girl to get her up to breeding weight? She's lacking some of the usual Red Tail 'bulk' right now.

I'm gonna start feeding her 2.5lb rabbits next week.

I feed Dagger 1 large rat every 2 weeks for him to put on a lil weight.

    Type back.

  • @zbraswell92

Big Mama was abround 20 years old.

I'd feed your female about every 10 days.

    Good luck

    Brian / FGS

  • @fgs9 she looks and seems like a sweetheart. Whats her encloseure size and how long did it take her to get that big.

  • @matter983patter

    She was a sweetheart.

She was around 20 years old when she died.

Her enclosure was 18 inches high x 3 feet deep x 5 feet long.

    Thanks for your comment

  • when do boas lay their young?

  • @marthanmg

Boas will drop their litter 105 days after their post ovulation shed.

    Brian / FGS

  • ook

  • R u the guy from greens pet shop

  • @justin81traxxas

No I'm the guy from For Goodness Snakes.

    Brian / FGS

  • Very beautiful!

  • I have 8 ball pythons and delaware law says I need permits for each animal to last 3 years and their 25 bucks each. So 200.

  • Yes sad to say that the government is ruining america. THey have fat pockets and could care less.

  • Hey whats the update on the reptile ban? I want to get into the industry but i live in delaware and the laws are really strict.

  • @89musclebound

It sounds like the government is going to make it illegal for us to ship burmese pythons, rock pythons and anacondas to other states.

    Brian / FGS

  • do u have any redtail boas for sale..just normal columbians

  • @jarrid0695

Yes I have a young Bolivian Boa for sale.

    Brian / FGS

  • I have a 100 percent het for albino and 60 percent albino hypo breed him to a darker red tail what should i get out if them

  • @Dragonheart7471

I am somewhat unclear about what you have, but I'll try to figure it out on the way.

If you are saying that you have a het albino breeding with a hypo that is 66 % posible het for albino then you will produce normals and hypos. Fifty % of all of the babies will be het for albino, but you won't know which ones they are.

    Good luck

    Brian / FGS

  • Im Srry to hear she's past I had a huge female probly 50 or 70 pounds Tht I took care of in the green house but this kid who raises and breeds snakes took her even tho she bites the f out of him and protects me but w.e. I have the tegu so im happy

  • how old is she?

  • @flyinggeckoprods

She died around a year ago.

She was around 20 years old.

    Brian / FGS

  • @fgs9 -very sorry to hear that she died. hope you get/have an awesome huge snake like her

  • @fgs9 im sorry to hear that. she looked to be a very awesome friend.

  • @fgs9 sorry to hear that

  • @fgs9 is that in regular years? or do people age them like dogs(doggie years).

  • @DookieDenry

    That is in regular years.

    Brian / FGS

  • Too nervous handling.I dont like this kind handling, boa deserved more gentle and slow handling.

  • @redeen1966

I agree, thanks for your comment.

    Brian / FGS

  • hey brian,

just thought id add, ive got a new boa (russian line blonde t+) whos 8ft and absolutely lovely! no hassle keeping chunky snakes once youve gotten used to it :-) big mamma is lovely as my "nutmeg"

  • brian, i would like to know when and how do i know if my red tail columbian boa is old enough to breed. im pretty sure it is a female but i havent got her sexed.

  • @MrHardcorerolling

When breeding snakes, size is just as important or more important than age. Most female snakes will reach breeding size in 3 to 5 years. I like to see my female boas at around 12 to 15 pounds when breeding them for the first time.

    Brian / FGS

  • she is absolutely gorgeous man!

  • cant get over how big and gorgeous she is... Getting one in January. Excellent snake!

  • how long it take to shade and how long it take to finsh shading ?

  • @cratos43

I'm sorry, but I don't know what shading means.

    Brian / FGS

  • @fgs9 lol i think they mean shedding and i hope the comment underneath means long ??? :)

  • @TheOnlyTRS

    Thank you for your help.

    Brian / FGS

  • @cratos43 changing her skin

  • @cratos43

Most snakes shed about every 4 to 6 weeks. Once the shedding process happens it can take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour.

    Brian / FGS

  • Cool and nice snake. Good video.

  • how lod is she

  • @jameshypa123

I'm sorry, but I don't know what lod means.

    Brian / FGS

  • I just recently bought a Ball Python and it's my first snake. I hear that i shouldn't handle it everyday. Is that true? How often can i? I know tha you should probably leave them alone for 2 days after they eat, but besides that is it ok to get them out everyday? Thanks

  • @NoApologies1000

I do reptile programs at schools and reptile birhtday parties. It's not uncommon for my snakes (ball pythons , boas and burmese python) to get held by hundreds of kids on a day to day basis. hold them as much as you want. The more you hold them the tamer they will become.

    Brian / FGS

  • Brian, your Boa is beautiful, mine is 6 feet right now, her nane is Slinky ( Female) but mine is as sweet as can be as well. very good pet snakes

  • Brian, can you give me any final advice on caring for a olombian boa, i dont want to get bit by a snake capable of becoming 7+ feet, how can i make my boa tamed like Big Mama ?

  • @SuperMan88Strong Hold them on a daily bases when they are babies for about 10-15 minutes a day. That should get them used to you pretty fast. Mine liked to bite and was really flighty when I got him but now hes really nice.

  • @SuperMan88Strong

    Hold her every day.

    Brian / FGS

  • Iam interested in a Colombian Boa but am curious which gender has a better temperant males or female boas?

  • @SuperMan88Strong

It doesn't matter, both males and females are great snakes.

    Brian / FGS

  • Sorry

  • How old is she Brian?

  • @airsoftpro251 shes dead :(

  • @airsoftpro251

She died around 6 months ago. She was 12 years old when she died.

    Brian / FGS

  • hi Brian , your right ! their not aggressive they make absolutely great pets i've got a surinam red-tail boa, about 3 feet long and he is just amazing in fact my kids consider him the best !

  • shes a beuty

  • How do you know that she needs feeding 3 instead of just one?

  • my Columbian Boa is named big mama to

  • My girl is less than half the size of yours, lol. Just reached a full year in age. She's got that same attitude where she's gotta have her head on our faces all the time. I've never understood why boas do that... She doesn't necessarily smell me when she does this, she usually just tucks her face against my cheek or chin and stays there. I always wonder if it's a safety thing, or an affectionate thing, or a combo of the two.

  • shes gawjus... looks like shes tryna crush your neck tho lol

  • I once read an article about a man who had a snake around his neck just like him,and all of a sudden the man felt he was choking because the snake started suffocating him.he had a lucky escape because he wasn't alone,so the people around him removed the snake from around his neck.

  • do u hav a store in san jose?

  • only just read about her, sorry 4 your loss, she was a beautiful snake......

  • such a beautiful snake, so sorry for your loss, looks like she was a great ambassador for her species

  • @TheEeekey

    Yes she was.

    Brian / FGS

  • @fgs9 How did she die? And where do you take the snake when she dies?

Im thinking about getting a Boa Constrictor Imperator (red tail i think) because i love how some of them have a bigger and flat head and they are so kind. But I have my doubt because im so attached to the Ball python i have now and im afraid i wont be so attached to her anymore when i get another one. Is this something you have heard people experience or experienced yourself?

  • @xr0saline

It's hard to say how she died, but she was around 20 years old so I just figured she died ofold age.

As far as being attached to one snake over another. I dought if you would loose any feelingss for one snake over another if you got more than one. I have 2 golden retreivers and I love them just the same.

    Good luck

    Brian / FGS

  • @fgs9 OMG so sad that she passed away. But, 20 years old is like being 70 years old in human years, for a snake. Their average is about 20 to 30 years, from what I hear.

I know I will be heart broken when Sophie dies, even though that is a long ways away.

  • @xr0saline BCI's are commonly mistaken for RTB ( red tail boas ) . Only BCC's ( Boa Constrictor constrictor ) are the true redtails

  • Ive been watching this snake alot because i find these kinds of boa's very pretty and kind. Didnt know she died until now. Sorry for your loss.

  • @xr0saline

    Thanks Loana,

    She was a good friend.

    Brian / FGS

  • im sorry for your loss brian what a beatilful snake R.I.P. Big Mamma

    Brian / FGS

  • @djh9595

She was about 20 years. She died around 3 months ago.

    Brian / FGS

  • @fgs9 ahhh just wanted to know how she is doing now cuz i didnt saw her in your latest birthdayvid! but now i know why i didnt saw her...

hope she made some nice babys!

  • awesome!

  • Hi Brian, quick question about common boas in shed. How long does it typically take for the complete shed cycle; from cloudy skin coloration to the actual shed?

  • @bored650

Depending on the growth cycle and how much the snake is being fed, it can take anywhere from a few days to more than a week.

    Brian / FGS

  • hey I was wondering if u are gonna be at the san jose reptile expo this year cus I am gonna buy a male red tail boa for a sub 200 dolalrprice range and was wondering if you are gonna be there.

  • @CrestedBoa

Yes I will be at the San Jose Show this year, but will probably not have any boas for sale.

    Brian / FGS

  • how old is she?

  • @sasukeXI

Sorry to tell you, but Big Mama died about 2 months ago. She was around 20 years old.

    Brian / FGS

  • @fgs9 im sorry, what a beautiful snake she was :(

  • @sasukeXI

She is missed by many people.

    Thanks for your comment.

    Brian / FGS

  • @fgs9 how big was she when she and what was she feeding on nice snake i have a 6 ft female hypo colombian boa

    Thanks!!

  • Shes awesome.

  • @madelynnlynn i mean i would like to meet you at an expo someday

  • I'm purchasing an 8ft BCI friday myself whom was used in schools and parties like yours, watching the video has put my mind at ease, she's beautiful and so gentle you have a great snake, this'll be my first large snake :)

  • she is the most magnificent boa constrictor I gave ever laid eyes on. You are so lucky to have such a beautiful gentle giant as a pet. :)

  • @madelynnlynn

    Maddie,

It's great to hear from you. I would think you could trade your male albino boa for apistripe or a pastel.

The boa market has taken a huge dump. Albinos are worth very much these days.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

    Brian / FGS

  • hi brian,my name is trevor and im from ontario canada,i love ur vids ur very informative thnx fer that,i have 3 questions my female columbian is a year and ten months, she eats a medium rat evry 2nd week she wont eat weekly, shes 40 inches iv seen snakes way biger at her age in videos,1st do u think shes small or average size?and 2nd why is it that the common boa "isnt" a true red tail ? they have the same colours there just from diffrent places ,how did they origonate if there not true red tails?

  • Comment removed

  • She's so gorgeous! I hope my girl grows up to be just like her :)

  • That's dangerous.

  • She's looking in great condition Brian, beautiful boa.

  • Comment removed

  • wow..she's solid:) what a beauty

  • super nice boa man ..cant wait till my boas get that big ..what do you feed that thing rabits ? and how big is its cage ?

  • i heard that bci's only get up to 20 pounds as an adult..? how is yours 50 pounds? thanks

  • @supacrzer13

    Joe,

One of the first things I learned when I became a snake breeder is don't believe everything you hear. I have a friend that had a BCI that was 11 feet long and that weighed about 80 pounds. Remember genetics play a huge part in how large our snakes get.

    Keep an open mind.

    Brian / FGS

  • @supacrzer13 well, her name is big mama for a reason

  • is this a true redtail or a bci?

  • @supacrzer13

    Joe,

    This is a BCI.

    Brian / FGS

  • Sorry to hear about your boa sk8tr. That's too bad. Great videos Brian. 5 stars. Nice change from the other over produced snake vids.

  • that girl needs rabbits man

  • @0binator Actually some people dont like to feed rabbits to there snakes like me i wouldnt feed rabits to my old boa past away about 2 years ago...but i tried feeding it 1 bunny she wouldnt take tried the next day she still wouldnt take it after the rabbit i put in a jumbo rat and she took it right away some snakes dont like the sent of the rabbits

  • whats the rite humidity /heat 4 a boa and do u leve the heat lamp on 24/7

is it ok to handle daily

  • @tigger00025

I don't consider the level of humidity unless the snake is shedding. I don't use heat lamps. I use 11 inch heater tape and yes it is on 24 /7. Yes it is OK to hold your snakes daily.

    Brian / FGS

  • Too nervous!

  • can ou pleas so where it sleeps...and how you made the set up for such a big snake...i want to get me one butdont knowhow much room it actuakky takes up,,,can i have it in my room..?/

  • Wow i live in san jose area and i was wondering if you sell any of your snakes and supplies?

  • @drummerboyjack

    Jack,

Yes I do sell ball pythons and boas.

Sorry, but I don't sell any supplies.

    Brian / FGS

  • i wanna get a ball python that big!

  • Hello Bryan, how often should i handle my red tail boa so that he`s going to be 100% tame and calm. he`s like 1 year old and 140cm now, and he allways gets a bit nervous when i pick him up, he bit me 3 times since i have him (5 months), he`s ok but he really gets agitated when picked up,he shakes like desperate to grab on something,he`s not agressive...just a little of a temper. any sugestions ? i get him out about 3-4 times a week for about half an hour. thx

  • @86Trancer

That sounds about right, hold it every chance you get. \

    Brian / FGS

  • i got a beutiful female from one of my friends who was going to get rid of her..nice snake

  • @MrBuddyisreal

That's great, good luck with her.

    Brian / FGS

  • @SpaceNinjaMonkey

No whe was just hanging on to me.

    Brian / FGS

  • @fgs9 oh ok well thats a really lovely snake hope all goes well

  • big mama is 17 years old and 8 feet. long???? i thought by now she would be around like 9+feet, since shes really a old snake. their growth rate depends on how much you feed her?

  • @JJLoW12

She's about 3 inches from being 9 feet long.

    Brian / FGS

  • and i feed mine 2 large rats or 1 extra small rabbit, or a jumbo rat, how big was your snake at 1 1/2 years old. can i keep her in a 55 gallon tank until she gets 7 feet.

  • Comment removed

  • i have a 1 1/2 year old 4 foot. female columbian boa constrictor. how old is she and i am i big enough to handle a snake that size i am 5ft. 11. 155lbs. what would you recommend i feed my snake.

  • @DuBois994

I'm confused. You tell me how old your snake is, then you ask me how old is she????

You are plenty large enough to handle a snake that size. I would feed your boa medium to large rats.

    Good luck

    Brian / FGS

  • Man how long did it take to get her that big?

  • @SEANPR2

Big Mama is about 17 years old.

    Brian / FGS

  • Gorgeous and Adorable snake! My snake is a big baby too.

  • hello brian have you ever heard of a red tail boa with no use for the flicking tounge?

i just got one he wont flick his tounge for nothing its in their but wont move at all , he feeds good and everything but i think this is kinda weird . thanx alot :))

  • sweeeeet

  • about what size tank should i buy for a snake that can grow that big

  • Hey, okay I have a question. I'm building a rack and I want to include a male & female RTB in my collection. Okay so their cage will be 8ft. long by 2ft. wide by 11in. tall...

I know that they don't climb, but is 11 inches just to short? If it is then I'll have to redue things and it would then be about like 16.5in. whats your thoughts, because I'm thinking all that floor space will keep them happy. I would really like to keep it at 8'X2'X11'' but I'll change plans to keep animals the happy.

  • @rephibiankid

That size cage sounds fine. I have Big Mama in a 18" high X 3 ' wide X 5 ' long vision cage.

    Good luck

    Brian / FGS

  • its colombian not columbian !!! columbia = usa colombia = southamerica where they come from

  • Nice snake you got there, this is abouth as big as they get. I olso have one almost same size sure not smaller. Looks verry healthy i must say...

  • @madelynnlynn

    Madelynn,

I'm so sorry that you're having such issues with your new boa.

I wish you the best of luck with her recovery.

    Brian / FGS

  • I so miss my Boa : (

  • @madelynnlynn

    Madelynn,

You're very welcome, glad to help.

    Brian / FGS

  • @madelynnlynn

Madelynn, sorry I could help you out.

    Brian / FGS

  • @madelynnlynn

    Madelynn,

I'm sorry, but I don't have any burmese pythons for sale.

    Brian / FGS

  • @madelynnlynn

Mexican boas are very dark and don't get very large. You may have one.

    Brian / FGS

  • hey brian is it true that male columbian red tails stay around 6-7 feet?

  • @Reptiles4723

Yes most male boas stay under 7 feet long.

    Brian / FGS

  • I wanted to know what morphs would you have to breed to get a lesser pastel and how many combinations are there can you also state them thx

  • @boehmeiboy

If you're talking ball pythons, you need a lesser and a pastel to produce a lesser pastel.

    Good luck

    Brian / FGS

  • i want one

  • redtails are soo sweet, my redtail "calypso" loves people and loves to socialize, she gets depressed if she doesnt get to hang out with me even if im just watching youtube vids :)

  • @SnMhardlove

Sounds like you have a very nice Boa.

    Brian / FGS

  • What a sweetheart! The only snake I know beeing this sweet ist my Ball Python I hope when I get my red tail boa Ill get her this nice too :)

  • @Jayda1983

I hope so too, good luck.

    Brian / FGS

  • I've heard that when snake hits eight feet in length you have to have a second person to handle them, but it seems that a boa that is as calm and as docile as Big Mama could be handled alone easily. Am I right?

  • @ARSA525

Yes, I've heard the same thing, but you're right, she is so docile and calm that I never give it a second thought. She's been handles by thousands of people.

    Brian / FGS

  • beautiful boa! she got some size on her!

  • @TheNima92

Yes she sure does have some size to her.

    Brian / FGS

  • beautiful boa, hopefully my female gets that big, i got my fingers crossed

  • Could you tell me how to feed a boa to get it to this size? :D

  • @ARSA525

Feed your boa large food items about every week to 10 days. Sometimes gnetics has a lot to do with how large a particular snake will get.

    Good luck

    Brian / FGS

  • They need to open a Center for Rescued Burmese Pythons to live.
