  • damn, my footage is 1280X720 and i did this but it still letterboxes my video can you help me out dude?

  • thank you so much. :)

  • You obviously didn't do it right, the tutorial is interlaced.

  • Great Tutorial. Thanks Man.

  • except for the fact that there's still black bars on the top and bottom of my video.. -____-

  • you sound like zack galafinakis, but this video helped. thanks alot!

  • It Really worked !!! Thanks for sharing !

  • Thank you very much for this!!! It REALLY helped me. Could you please tell me if there is a way to do this while keeping the chapters in my video? Thank you again!!!

  • this is only 720p, if you guys want 1080p its the same thing but restrict to 4000 , and size of the video has to be 1920x1080 check out my tutorial then you should have 1080p HD

  • Thanks dude...really helped...amateur editor still figuring out compression...I know a lot about standard but its time I learned about HD!!!

  • Hey how did you upload it did you share in quicktime or did you upload directly from youtube?

  • You sound really worried in this video lol, good video though. Makes sense to limit the kbps considering youtube downsamples the data rate anyways, shaves loads of time off the render. subscribed.

  • Please can you help me??? What is the right way to save/convert the RED videos footage in MAC to HD .mov files(high quality)???

Please let me know if you can help me.

Thank you very much for your attention

  • @easyupconsulting what do u mean by RED videos?

you can convert footage using the ffmpegx program i talk about in my HQ tutorial as well. if that answers your question...

  • @NotLongFilms if u do not know what RED is...get outta here lol

  • @beanothedon suck mah nutz

  • @kitlarson present them...-mz chokesondick

  • @NotLongFilms Red video is like 5 times higher quality than HD video. I just change the settings to 1920x1080 or the highest settings. Most monitors will not be able to project the original quality

  • Hi, Please can you help me??? I have many RED videos footage and I do have Final Cut Pro(Mac computer). What I need is convert/save this videos footage in HD .mov files, to send for a friend that have CS5(windows computer) to make edition.

I already tried to send for him a feel times, but when He download the videos footage in his CS5(windows computer), the videos footage look WASH OUT and low quality.

I do not know what I am doing wrong.

  • hella views

  • It's scary that kids can do what the older pro editors do and they work for peanuts! ;-)

  • Thanks. That's helpful

  • thanz dude, this thing was retard proof, got to upload my shit because of it, thanx alot for the tutorial

  • my video quality wasnt that good when i did this

  • @jhurwitz16

    its because your adopted

  • nice man but does youtube read .mov? haha. thanks for the advise I have never exported a movie out of final cut pro fo youtube before. thanks :) check out my remixs i subcribed and thumbs up bro :D

  • Seriously Being 15 , you know alott about Computers

  • sweet thanks man! and @SCHIZOPHRENIC don't hate cause he's younger than you and knows more..haha!

  • You leave out too many small details... you don't just go to "File>>Export". You must mark the whole sequence first! If someone had Ins and Outs on a smaller segment in the Timeline, that's all that would be exported. You need to clarify and pretend the viewer knows very little, otherwise it becomes the ineffective video this is.

  • so helpful. thanks a lot man.

  • Guys his voice is fine and the tutorial was very helpful.

  • this video was awesome. You're great!

  • Great tutorial. Simple. Efficient. Short. Saved me lots of trouble. Thanks! (Good job on the edit, btw.)

  • Great tutorial. Simple. Efficient. Short. Saved me lots of trouble. Thanks! (Good job on the edit, btw).

  • Thanks so much, new to Final Cut and this showed me why my video wasn't readable by YouTube. I can't believe anyone had negative comments on this one. Really?

  • I was going to buy an HD camera, but when I found this youtube, you saved me $2000. I have Final Cut and never used it!! Oh well, it's on and crackin!!

  • It's funny cause when you read this you will reply "I'm almost 18 now" :P ... Hey dude, what about Full HD? Hope you get by to reading this before your 18th birthday :P

  • solid video dude

  • thanks for uploading this :D

It helped me out a lot

  • Nicely done! Thanks alot I've been trying many different methods but this is the easiest!!! All you idiots complaining about the film makers voice.... Really? Wow I'm sure with that attitude you will lead a rich life and your work will go far.

  • not even kidding, this is one of the best, most straightforeward and simple tutorials i've seen yet. well done sir.

  • i wanna make it full screen in youtube though...

  • great tutorial man. Precise, thought out.. well done :)

  • Fantastic! Thank you for making this.

  • awesome, thank you for doing this

    and getting to the point

sick of people doing tutorial for smething that takes 2 secnds with a 10 minute video of them talking shit!

this was useful and straight to the point :)

  • If i want 2 do 1080 which of the 2 should i pick 1440x1080 or 1920x1080

  • A wise man once said: "haters gonna hate."

I don't know why anyone would put you down based on your age or the sound of your voice, especially considering the low quality of their work compared to yours.

Keep up the good work! In a few years, they'll be working for you! :)

  • I want to edit my home videos to see on AppleTV at their highest quality and compressed settings (H.264), but I feel that all these exporting to YouTube tutorials will produced a far lower quality video than if I want to see it in my computer or apple tv, since its has got to be drastically compressed to see online? Are the settings for apple tv different than those to see it in you tube? Also is there a diff in quality between these settings and say exporting to tape the HD video I have made?

  • Jalouse M...F, why watch this if you don't wanne see it.

    RESPECT , NOTLONGFILMS.

    PEACE

  • YOUR DOING GREAT MANE I DONT CARE IF YA 17 OR HOWEVER OLD YOUR ARE. I'M 27 YEARS OLD AND I'M SAYING JOB WELL DONE !!!! KEEP IT UP I GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR VIDEOS !!!!

  • actually this worked best for me! Thanks kid

  • lol 2:12 is shows creepers 2 but the title of that says O' Riley Chapter 2

  • Great job. Thanks.

  • Nice vid. Easy and straight to the point. Keep it up.

  • thak you, easy and clear

  • your doin a great job mate ;) I'm 40 and happy to learn from you. You've stuck to the job and kept it very concise and to the point.

Don't listen to the idiots... great vid... great help cheers

  • Ok so it worked but why don't I have any sound?

  • I did this many times and it ends up that the video and audio are out of sync

  • Who cares how old the guy is? I'm 41 and I used this video to help me with my HD output problems. Thank you very much.

  • great video.. thanks for the help =)

  • you did a great job and I don't care if you're two. I'm 44 and found this to be very professional! And I think I can do it now!

  • good on you, v impressive whatever age you are, ignore the mean people

  • very helpful.. thanks.

  • Good Job!!! 2 minutes, well explain, nothing to it!! keep it up, and in a couple of years you'll be far ahead from this haters! You done your homework and learn from FC things that others can't do.

  • ...I don't wanna learn this from a 12 year old.

  • @SCHIZOPHRENlC im sixteen. I was 15 when I made this...

  • @NotLongFilms NotLong buddy.

  • @NotLongFilms good on you my friend...I'm quite happy to learn something from a 15 yr old..Well done..keep up the good work!

  • @whittonmatt im almost 17

  • @SCHIZOPHRENlC Who cares?! More props to his young age. This is more informational and much simpler to digest than majority of the guides I've seen on youtube. Fantastic job! Thanks for the help in exporting footage!

  • Young people are the filmmakers of tomorrow. Technology is changing with each generation, your foolish not to listen to someone presenting valid information regardless of their age.

  • @thestev34 You're foolish for not knowing the difference between your and you're.

  • @SCHIZOPHRENlC

You are acting like a 12 year old by writing that. Who cares how old he is - the point is he helped you with giving you information you needed!

  • @SCHIZOPHRENlC You are clearly a narrow minded douche then :)

  • I would not use uncompressed audio as you did. Choose AAC to make the file smaller for faster upload.

  • What if the video was filmed in 1440 should I still export the same size you mentioned?

  • what settings shuld I have for 1080p?

  • @SkillsVsLimit 1920 x 1080

  • incredibly helpful.. thank fucking god i found this video

  • Thanks so much - can't wait to see it!

  • Thanks very much. Very helpful.

  • this guys voice is to annoying i cant even listen till the end

  • @emceeproduction

    thanksssssssss

  • @NotLongFilms sorry bro, no beef, its just the accent difference's nothing personal!

  • @emceeproduction Well...You could have muted his voice and watched the video. If you're not half stupid you will still understand it. Good video dude

  • @emceeproduction

His voice is fine. Why not thank him for helping people with this great tutorial??

  • I have a gameplay video in widescreen and when i export it i wanna remove the black bars and not streach it, the video gamplay is in HD, and i imported them the right dememtions

  • the aspect is off, any way to fix that?

  • HOW WOULD I EXPORT INTO ANOTHER FORMAT E.G. AVI WITHOUT LOSING THE QUALITY.... I HAVE TRIED THE MOV. BUT I CANT DO NOTHING WITH THEM IN WINDOWS... AND I TRIED AVI BUT IT MESSED UP...P.S IM NOT A FCP PERSON.... ITS A LONG STORY

  • Do you use the same settings if you shot in 24fps?

  • @MicaNica

i honestly don't know how many fps my camera shoots so i just leave it at that setting. Yet i guess if you shoot at a different setting then I would change it accordingly

  • when I import the clip and try to watch it it shows a thing in the video thing that says unrendered and than How Do I Fix That???

  • @ymerej101 cmd + r to render out the video. Or change it to unlimited RT, to stop the warning message

  • @Hboycey yeah but when I turn on Inlimited RT it says some dumb message and still does that thing but I will try command r now thanks Peace although that will be annoying every minute but whatevs thanks Peace Out V(^_^)

  • appreciate this, thankyou.

  • does it work on final cut pro 5?

  • @TheCode753cr

    it should

  • @NotLongFilms oh ok cool ill try it out

  • do you always put it in that 16 aspect ratio even if your video isn't wide screen?

  • Good stuff, really helping me get started!

  • did you make that intro in fcp?

  • Thanks a lot guys this was totally helpful! Because of this I was finally (after a dozen failed attempts) to get a good looking upload for a TOTALLY AWESOME piece of video - check it out if you can!

Thanks again, keep the videos coming

  • thanks man!!!

  • Mate your a legend =) I spent ages earching the internet for advice on exporting!!! Ive subscribed to your videos as a result of this video, all the best Cleary.

  • thank you for your help !!!!

  • Thanx man .. But i hv little problem .. After export my video from final cut .. It is working good .. But when i trien to burn dvd .. There is only video showup but NO AUDIO??? plz help me

  • Thanks man!

  • close, but you don't want to leave it on mpeg4-h.264. Put it on "ANIMATION - MILLIONS COLORS " or MILLION "+" if it has an alpha channel(opaque), and usually pro film is on every 24 keyframes setting. Helpful vid otherwise.

  • Thanks, I subscribed.....

  • hey man, I am trying to upload a music video....I shot in HD, and edited it, I am trying to find a way to make the file smaller, it keeps coming out as like 4gigs....How do i export it as a smaller file?

  • try looking at my HQ tutorial

  • Everyones way is sorta different....ughhhhh idk which 2 dooooo? Anyone know da best way?

  • This information worked out perfectly for me.

  • This is misinformation

  • no really hd watch the big brother one thats the shit

  • Thanks for the tutorial... loved your voice. :)

  • ok this made my video look very blurry , the default setting came out better

  • thanks lets see if it works

  • i am not sure if i have final cut pro

  • then u probably don't have it

  • yeah, if your not sure, than you probably havnt because it costs $999 and you would have remembered buying it if you have

  • i don't get it i am soooooooooooooo confused CAN YOU MAKE it EASY'ER

  • this is pretty easy do u have final cut pro ?

  • Thanks Broski!

  • What's up bud. Looks like you are trying to export SD with H.264, which is most likely the cause that you are getting those bad scan lines when there is motion (pans, etc) in your video. In my experience, H.264 never does that with HD footage, but every time I try and export SD with H.264 I get those scan lines...

  • those scan lines are de-interlaced video playing back on a computer monitor... He needs to de-interlace the video, or shoot progressively...

  • no matter what my video looks awesome in FCE but when i export this way, i lose some clarity and color. It looks less clear. WHY!?!? i have a canon vixia hf200

  • quicktime conversion Id say is not the best option generally... No offence notlongfilms.... I always find its not as good results as exporting using compressor. It takes a while but is worth it... Also, the rule of thumb for keyframes is 10x the frame rate. So if youre shooting NTSC 30fps, use keyframes every 300 frames....

  • Thanks!

  • how would you save a 4:3 video to hd?

  • I'm still shooting and editing in SD (Standard Definition) in Final Cut Pro ). Until I upgrade to HD, please tell me how to export from FCP in the best quality. So, far all my videos on YouTube look bad. Please help!!!

  • export using compressor. use h264 LAN internet setting. Make sure to use deinterlacing if shot on interlaced camera setting. If not sure right click a clip on the timeline and click format. That will show you info about the video. Look at field dominance. If its 'even', use 'even' deinterlacing. Here's the last one I uploaded. Is in HD right enough -

  • hey thank you so much you made clear and good.

  • thanks for this! awesome tutorial!

  • thanx a lot my friend i love yoooooou you saved my life for my final project your the best

  • Thank you! I am so happy my AMVs will be HD~

  • Good,

Is there any way to avoid video distortion or no.

also, are there supposed to be letter boxes on the exported movie and if so, do they disappear when uploaded?

  • Good Show

  • Just doing it now, hopefully the file size isn't huge.

  • on the first step when I export it to using quick time conversion it said that no item contains no media for export. Please RESPOND!!!!!!!!!

  • it must be some error in the downloading of the Final Cut Pro Software.

  • Are you a robot? jk

    Very helpful

  • nice job boss... very nice.

  • thank you

  • thank you for not over complicating this!

  • thank you for posting this tutorial.you've been a great help.

    keep it up.

    i subbed :)

  • cant you just select the 720p30 setting?

  • Another question, i use the 48 KHz anamorphic preset in final cut for my widescreen video, when i start making HD video, what preset do i use, do i keep the anamorphic preset or do i use the Apple Intermediate Codec 720p 30 preset

  • haha, i just looked at this comment and I had absolutly NO CLUE what to do haha. Im really sorry

  • What about the bitrate question below. What are the pros and cons of more or less? I used the 1800 u suggest...it looks good before upload but havent uploaded yet...but why do others suggest 2500 or 5000? Thanks

  • you know, im not really sure about the what the bit rate does. Bitrate refers to the size, over time, of a video or audio stream, yet all i know is that 1800 has worked for me.

    -hope that helps

  • got this from wiki - In digital multimedia, bit rate often refers to the number of bits used per unit of playback time to represent a continuous medium such as audio or video after source coding (data compression). The size of a multimedia file in bytes is the product of the bit rate (in bit/s) and the length of the recording (in seconds), divided by eight.

As for bit rate, was reading on creative cow forums for best results to use I think it was 5000kbps bit rate.

  • how big is the file size when exporting using these settings? say for a 6 minute video filmed with a Webbie HD cam, which if i am correct records video in mp4 format (a miniDV HD Cam isnt in my price range)

  • when u have finished exporting videos, i find the file size to be around 50 - 70 MB which is good because it doesn't take long to upload to utube

  • I used these exact settings and i still ended up getting a letterbox that messed it up. I tried it a few times. It still comes out being HD though. Notlongfilms, if you could help me, please tell me how to prevent this in the future. by the way, it's the "Michael Jackson Joins Moheh" video

  • if ur having trouble with letter boxing, that must be because of the way it was filmed on your cameras settings. if its not uploading to HD. just try exporting it as a quicktime movie with a size 1280 x 720 format

  • it is in hd, just letterbox troubles. ill try making some different settings to fix it.

  • Hello,

What is the difference between "high quality" and "HD" on YouTube? Can everyone view the "HD" content.

    Grassiass

  • with HD, the size of your video is bigger, and you are able to view it in a 1280 x 720 format, and the viewing quality is just overall better.

everyone can view videos in HD, it depends if your connection is fast enough to view high quality videos. the faster connection the better.

  • There are a number of similar tutorials on YouTube for HD exporting. Several of those call for higher bit rates...from 2500 to 5000.....is 1800kbps the best ? and why? Thank you

  • That looks like Sony Vegas 8... and what is Final Cut Pro? Another editing program?

  • its final cut pro

and yes, it is editing software

  • is normal that I began to convert 30 mins ago one video of 9 minutes and it estimate 2 more hours? I think this could be 2.30 hours getting converted. It is normal? I have an iMac 20" 2.0GHz and 4GB on Ram.

  • yah,

a 9 minute video in HD should take about 2.5 hours long or more.

  • awesome. you rock!

  • Nice job kid. Very helpful.

  • I just saw this tutorial after checking out your tutorial on ffmpegx for youtube HD.

    Great videos.

Is the method described here another way of achieving the same results?

    thanks

  • This is "The Way" to make it HD. Im sure there are other ways though.

I sometimes export it to DV stream, and drag it to ffmpegx. From there, THEN I make the size 1280 x 720.

thats another method that seems to work for me

  • awesome!! thanks so much :D
