  • love this track thanks for the upload

  • Will not get enough of Johnny's music- Thanks!

  • Sweet sweet Music!!

  • Bought this 45 when it came out, very good song ..

  • @60srecords Very good memories, came out in late 1972 when I was a sixth grader in Elementary School!

  • We went to the same high school in Houston Tx which was Jack Yates High which also produced Debbie Allen.Nothing but talent in Texas.

  • Back for another listen :)))))

  • This is the best upload of 'Stir It Up' that I've heard.

    Thanx for the upload.

I've not been able to listen to this since some a hole stole my copy from a party in the 70's :'(

  • @Alethia25 You are so welcome! I love this version the best, too... to this day, I still listen to it several times a week :)

  • @Alethia25 hunt them down and get your record back :D

  • Written by Bob Marley.

  • While I prefer his early work with soul music and R&B he also sang reggae very well. great singer

  • Thank you for posting this song. This was the first 45 I purchased (a very long time ago) and this song was and still is my favorite of all time. I still have the 45.

    Cupertino, CA.

  • Johnny was backed up by Bob Marley's Wailers. Bob wrote it for Johnny. John hit #12 in Billboard, 4-21-73. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! ONE LOVE!

  • @DaveWollenberg You're Welcome! ... and thanks also to YouTube and Johnny's record company for realizing YouTube is great exposure and promotion in this age of limited and meager radio waves... Live on, Johnny!

  • @DaveWollenberg: Bob wrote it for his wife Rita but, since he hadn't broken through internationally yet, allowed Johnny to record it for the international market. This is the same reason "I Shot the Sheriff" was released by Eric Clapton before it was released by Bob Marley in 1974. Marley wouldn't receive international attention until "No Woman, No Cry" in 1975.

  • @Lexdizzle Awesome new bit of info... the more the better.. thanks a bunch!

  • I recall being told in 1972 that Bob Marley and the Wailers contributed to this recording of the song, but NOT to the alternate album version. There may have been some legal reasons this one was hidden away after the single. At the time labels were really touchy about who recorded for whom.

  • @notholding2 Like WOW. That could definitely explain the different distribution zones/times... this was pretty much the only version we heard on the radio during the time it was a hit record on the west coast, just mucho mucho hard to find nowadays.

Indeed it wouldn't be the first time contract issues have resulted in new recordings which supplanted the originals. "I will always love you" by Dolly Parton and "Wildfire" by Michael Martin-Murphey are some that come to mind right off hand...

  • This is a very sexy song! It is not about the kitchen, it is about the bedroom! love you forever Johnny!

  • I don't think he's talking about kitchen fires.

  • only Bob and Johnny can sing this song

  • This song was written by Bob Marley. I'll push the wood, light the fire = he's talking about a wood fire outside inside the kitchen, especially common in the country in Jamaica. So, Johnny is just singing what Bob wrote. I'm sure that there were, and still may be wood fires in the U.S. especially in the rural areas.

  • Fabulous new unknown drums!!!

  • @lizichell2 It's always SO Cool when I find that someone enjoy's hearing all that excellence in the tracks that was in the hit version! It's a drag that it's still hard to find digitally... so far. Always hope!

  • Written by reggae's emperor, Bob Marley. One love! God bless!

  • BEAUTIFUL SONG

  • Thanks Fluffets, for helping to promote JN's music on youtube. I am looking forward to purchasing some of his recordings from itunes etc this weekend! Can't wait. I missed hearing him in my car and we've got to fix that before Monday's commute! What a gem of a performer! If you find a reputable venue offering his 1950s and 1960s stuff too, hope you'll post it on here.... Cheers to JN and to all his fans out there!

  • @biyohi Keepin' that good groove alive :) ...Thanks for the detailed comment and have a great drive tuned in to Johnny!

  • beautiful song : ] is j.n. still alive? please someone reply? thx : ]

  • what a beautiful song : ]

  • It sounds wonderful... Imagine it without being crucified by the aac compression for youtube.

  • Lovely, rich voice! Sweet, deep dimples!

  • this is the version I remember from my childhood, Beautiful voice

  • Thanks for posting this!! played it 1000 times. reminds me of happier times when I was a little boy and my Mom would dance with me in the kitchen.

  • @MrThrowingcopper lol awww, so cute

  • I have this 45, all scratched up! Thanks for posting. Now I can hear it as it should be.

  • EL CANTANTE ES DE DONDE DE jAMAICA O DE EE UU

  • @lilianakiraz Apparently he was born in the USA, but according to WikiPedia, he did record lots of music in Jamaica also ... Check out the article on him at WikiPedia, and thanks for the comment!

  • Thanks!!! LOVE to ALL! This one is for Sister J! ty. Peace

  • God I love this song, this version of this song. I'm in heaven tonight.

  • @qimissung Heaven be good! Zis nevah git old... just like heaven! ^_^

  • Hey, fluffets. always glad to help out a fellow music fan. God bless!

  • Johnny used the Wailers as his backup band. Hit #12 in Billboard. God bless!

  • Always dig helpful info.. thanx!

  • Maybe my comment didn't post - Anyway, 5 stars! Thanks for posting!

  • @justmusicandme ...You are very welcome! I love the distinctive differences in this audio arrangement mix from the only (LP) version available right now, and I hope they release this alternate single version some day :)

  • @Fluffets: I know what you mean - this sounds like the version I used to hear on the radio - back when you could hear good stuff on the radio! Very 'bouncy'!

  • FIVE stars *****! Thanks for posting!

  • When this came out I was like 15 or so...I had the biggest crush on my babysitters husband ( that sounds sooo bad now, he was probably in his 30's or so ) God...It seemed like this was always playing when he took me home...hahahaha...But the song say's it all doesnt it what its all about between a man and a woman..I ordered the CD off of Amazon, can't wait to get it...I'm 53 now makes me laugh just thinkin about those car rides home..If he only knew what I was thinkin hahahhaha

  • i love blasting this out of my computer speakers..... jus saying lol

  • Sounds like an excellent plan!

  • This is my favorite song from my pre-teen years. I received my first radio the year this was released. The am stations in San Jose and San Francisco played this song and "I can see clearly now" often.

    Thanks for sharing this song.

    Cupertino, Ca

  • I love those both... so glad you like it!

I hope some day they will release this on CD or Amazon or iTunes too... so many songs have been released in their multiple versions these days. A couple that come to mind are Smoke On The Water, and We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place... both have multiple takes and mixes and are nice each in their own way.

  • I can't believe anyone would do that; I'm glad to have both of them there for comparison. I would only give a video a poor rating if I thought the title or keywords were deceptive.

PS: Another record that seems to have come out in 2 versions is "Catch Us if You Can" by the DC5. The good version (it's on the "Shindig" UTube vid) starts the harmonica solo with a scream; the other version has screaming all through it. One might have been the album version, but I've heard them both on the radio.

  • Hey, ya know.. you said it looked like it was only two, but your rating pushed it up to the 3 star mark (thanks!!)... so maybe I will open it up again.. that'd be fun! I might remove our chat here tho to clear it fresh :D ... and on the DC5.. thanks for the tip! There must be several out there like that, Stir It Up was just my personal goal :-) ... I will haveta check my DC5 original LP and see which version is on that... if I find it I'll let ya know... Thanks!!

  • Sound digitally fresh for a 45. A lot of them weren't even stereo yet back then.

"I'll push the wood, I'll blaze your fire" Sounds like a kitchen accident while doin' the stirring... Careful with that wooden spoon, Johnny!!! ugh...too late.. :)

  • Sounds great; loved it! :D

  • So glad you got to check it out!! ^v^

  • Wow! What a difference. This is definitely the record that left such a strong impression on me in1973. Your 45 must be in pretty good shape; I don't hear any surface noise, and I can tell you're using a decent pickup. Thanks for posting this!!
