Im sure he was able to detect that he was doing the riff different from the correct riff, Im sure he did his own version, Just like how he did to change the solo, To fit the acoustic guitar well. Other parts were different, I know that.

they were Dmaj, Fmaj and Gmaj.

actually quite the opposite. the main riff is done on the dropped string so when its open its a d therefor the first chord is Dmaj but this means that the acoustic must be in regular tuning.
