Depeche wasn`tt the only UK synth band hit States! Tears For Fears was huge in States in 1985. DM copied their ideas 2 years later in their "Masses" album and made it too, but on lower lever.
I'm surprised they didn't mention minimal new wave at all. Wasn't there a fairly large society of experimental minimal wave bands in the mid 80s? (The Metronomes, David Harrow, Absolute Body Control, Anne Clark, etc.)
Great great doc. Thanks for putting it up. Bought back a lot of memories for this Brit who grew up in the 80's. It did start to go all pear shaped after about 1984/5 though. My little brother actually bought that awful Thompson Twins single, I've never let him live it down ;-)
@Vondur Oh! It's Howard Jones. I have no idea what song it is, it just makes me cringe to see him come out and dance like that. That song blows. Pet Shop Boys, on the other hand, are amazing.
Thanks for posting the last bit of this excellent doc. Too bad they had end it on that terribly lame Phil Oakey / Moroeder song. Why wasn't Thomas Dolby in this film a huge error IMO

Depeche Mode was huge here in the U.S. in the early 90s!
'Enjoy the Silence' was massive!

Great show, but Ultravox should never have been mentioned.

@SubconsciousGatherer I'm talking about at 5:30 ... no way in hell is that the Pet Shop Boys. If so, which song is that?

@SubconsciousGatherer
The Howard Jones song at 5:30 is called 'New Song'. It was a big hit, but I much prefer the tune 'What Is Love'.

I really missed seeing anything about Art of Noise (who came around 1983), but otherwise this documentary covered it nicely.
Also, something wrong with part 9, which wont play.

The moment I was thinking "New Order" the moment the narrator said that exact band name. Way out of left field I couldn't believe the odds!
