Believe it or not, earmarks themselves are a good thing. It means that the money congress appropriates MUST GO TO THAT ITEM, whatever it is. As taxpayers that's what we want. We don't want money diverted from what congress approves to something they didn't. The questions should be whether the item should be earmarked at all. Meaning is this money being spent appropriate for congress to spend under the Constitution.
If the bill gets passed and doesn't direct the money where to go, the EXECUTIVE branch will simply use the money. He is only getting the 14th District's money back for them...very analagous to taking a social security payment (as he points out).
Even though she gives a pass to Ron Paul, Coulter misrepresents him on the earmark issue and makes the same mistake as Tim Rusert does. He puts earmarks in these bills for his district, but votes AGAINST them.
Further, these APPROPRIATIONS don't increase spending, they simply direct it where to go. To vote against an earmark would NOT decrease spending.

Believe it or not, earmarks themselves are a good thing. It means that the money congress appropriates MUST GO TO THAT ITEM, whatever it is. As taxpayers that's what we want. We don't want money diverted from what congress approves to something they didn't. The questions should be whether the item should be earmarked at all. Meaning is this money being spent appropriate for congress to spend under the Constitution.

Even though she gives a pass to Ron Paul, Coulter misrepresents him on the earmark issue and makes the same mistake as Tim Rusert does. He puts earmarks in these bills for his district, but votes AGAINST them.
Further, these APPROPRIATIONS don't increase spending, they simply direct it where to go. To vote against an earmark would NOT decrease spending.

It is so easy to attack the good Dr. about his voting for earmarks. It's simple, he usually votes against the spending, but if the spending bill is passed - which it always does - then he will get the spending for his district. In other words, it is a way to prevent at least some of the Federal money from going to the fools in the Executive Branch. I agree with Paul that all of congress should be claiming as much as they can in order to prevent all of the money from going to the Exec. Branch.
