Taco Bell was non-existent in Europe at the time (or at least very unknown). Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut are all owned by the same company. It was a compromise for the European audience or they wouldn't have known what the hell Taco Bell was.
I watched Demolition Man as a 15 year old in England and we got the Taco Bell version. I had no idea what the heck Taco Bell was, so I can see why they changed it for other international releases, but why wouldn't they have made it a more international reference in the first place? Bad planning, and this dubbing just looks awful.
OMFG I'm currently watching this film and I've just come across the very poor dubbing. Why the hell was it dubbed in the first place? Just because Taco Bell is not an international restaurant? THIS IS AN AMERICAN MOVIE FOR GOODNESS SAKE! Dubbing was POINTLESS, and it just makes me very glad I downloaded this movie instead of buying it.
@KeyszerS you must be verry dence with a comment like that.
@ShizuokaDolphin i think it has more to do with sponsoring instead of if the product is international or not., the all mighty dollar has more leaway than the marketeers thinking an other american product better suited over seas. , why people are talking about bad dubbing is irrelavant if a sponsor backs of a movie, you cant just film a whole scene over when the dubbing is done in post. time is money and the deadline is creaping up.
Here in Russia we have both versions translated. Actually that wasn't only about dubbing, they've also changed headlines on doors of a restaurant, on a side of a minivan and on a can. sorry my english is not so good
I'm pretty sure Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC, Burger King and Pepsi are all made up of the same bunch of assholes running them anyways, so not like they lost endorsement.
@marcelthemaoist You're mostly right. I used to work for Pizza Hut. They, Taco Bell and KFC are all supplied by the company YUM. They also all carry Pepsi, BK included. PH, TB, and KFC are also all owned by NPC International, so when one makes money, they all do.
Well I have read around and found that on "some non-American releases, references to Taco Bell were changed to Pizza Hut. " - IMDB.
Reading between the lines this suggests that the Americans thought that Non-Americans would not know taco-bell and dumbed it down for us. Well not so. We know full well that Taco-Bell is a Mexican chain "restaurant". We even have them here,
Although George III (film) was changed to "The Madness of King George" for the US (Due to no George I and II films )
@LukeSkyscraper And most of the Americans probably still didn't know who George was :)
We're pretty ignorant over here!
And this movie is 25 years old, right? So Taco Bell was not as prevalent everywhere (as it might be now). And I do remember seeing Pizza Hut in England 29 years ago (in the area with the TKTS booth).
And PIzza Hut and Taco Bell were both owned by the same company back then (I think) so it was an easy choice. I think Pepsi owns both, right?
@mrgrummus I did pose the "25 years" as a question.
But I'll restate my statement with the correct info, making exactly the same point...
And this movie is EIGHTEEN years old, right? So Taco Bell was not as prevalent everywhere (as it might be now). And I do remember seeing Pizza Hut in England 19 years ago (in the area with the TKTS booth).

@wakingcrow Yeah I agree. When and Why? and just how much did Pizza Hut Pay to have this done and do they REALLY think that Demolition man will sell enough copies to make decent advertising and will it even be GOOD advertising taking into account what John Spartan actually gets served?
lmao at the video

At the scene they walk outside the "pizza hut" Taco Bell logo is on the windows.
kitchenfromhell 6 months ago
So they must have dubbed in some exterior shots too? There was some visual product placement, right/>

@garylapointe Pepsi was made to sell them off for anti trust reasons.
RoofusKit 5 months ago
@RoofusKit Seriously, anti-trust? Pizza and Tacos? They might have cornered the non-hamburger fast food market?
Actually, Pizza Hut is a notch above fast food (IMHO) so they aren't even in the same market...
