Probably this is a driver related issue, so if it's working with other distros it should work on any distro, if the driver is compatible with the kernel. You just have to compile it if it's not included in the distro.

But if you don't want to use Ubuntu, you have many choices to find the best distribution for you.

Nice video! I'm gonna get the same laptop next wednesday, and I plan to install Ubuntu 7.10. Wich program do you use to record your screen??

I used the gtk-recordMyDesktop to record the desktop and I merged with the music with mencoder.

I tried also OpenSuse 10.3 and Debian Lenny on the notebook and each one run perfectly.
