I completely agree. I frequently have a problem you don't mention, at hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowes. Among my other purchases I will have a bag of 8 screws, bolts, nuts, whatever. It's not that I don't know how to work the checker, this task ALWAYS has to be looked up. So I go to the only manned checker-- the 'contractor' labelled one. Grocery store fruit and veg have a similar problem. I'd say that self check only works --for my purchases-- about 30% of the time, seriously.
