• wtf 3:33

  • @666guitarfreak I don't think so, it sounds compressed, like at the beginning of Borg sex in San Francisco, and in Searching at 5:34 in Tokyo (it sounds a bit defferent)

  • @TayEau its a micro-POG

  • Love this song (and all the others ~~)

What effect does he use at 4:25 please?

He uses it in Searching and in Borg Sex too

    Thanks!

  • @TayEau u mean a digitec whammy?

  • he is the guitar alien : )))))

  • Cool#1 this should be , WoW :D .

  • Any one know where i can find an Mp3?i listen to this version all the time...awesome...satch is the great.

  • this song is so fucking awsome.. it should be cool # 1 not 9

  • @fattiesg61 I'd bet he has composed 8 other "cools" and this is the one he liked the best.

  • most powerful guitarist in the world...

  • be carefull of developing guitardation! Who wants to be guitardid?

  • Hi friends' could anybody let me know why Stuart Ham was booed so badly in this G3 concert????

  • @Ben40118 They aren't booing him, they're screaming "STUUUUUUUUU" Because he is awesome

  • @fenderbender92 @Ben40118

Note also that Springsteen fans aren't booing BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE at the start of his concerts, nor are Red Sox fans expressing their animosity towards KevinYOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKilis when it's his turn to bat.

  • @Ben40118 Guess you never heard Joe say "They Stu you because they love you."

  • SUashaSHAshuA JOE MASTURBaTING the guitar - 5:25 -and after that, he just play a killer harmonics. so easy for him!

  • Got the dvd !

  • es un extraterrestre

  • @juanchoplazas surfeando...

  • Ohiocubicle,

You are incredibly ignorant. Listen to more of Satriani's work before you make uneducated blanket statements about how all his songs sounds the same. It also doesn't help your case that you claim BUCKETHEAD (of all the guitarists...seriously?) is a better guitarist than Satch. Period.

  • @davy1409 ANYONE claiming someone is (better) than anyone, is an ignorant moron. A true musician understands at heart, that there is no best, better, or worst. There are beginning guitarists, and advanced guitarists of all degrees, and that there are guitarists of all different styles, tastes, and genres. Listen for the fucktards that say Oh, (random person) is so much better! or You guys are noobs and losers, (so and so) is so much better.

  • @davy1409 That's how you spot the pathetic wannabes that sweep pick all day long, can't play anything, and will never make a good living playing for anyone. I resent those people with a passion.

  • @ShadowLancer128 Real musicians accept all kinds of music, and don't call other musicians "Wannabe's", because they are still learning. We all used to be at that level of "noobishness". Even Joe himself. I'm sure you have a "Favourite guitarist". Yes I have a favourite guitarist/ drummer/ bassist.. Everything. I know I do. And true fans of that gutiarist/ drummer/ bassist, would state their opinion on a different video. Don't call anyone a fucktard lol. Offensive.

  • @drummaboy2346 Well, I was referring to the people who dont have the patience to learn songs and still call THEMSELVES better guitarists than you because they can sweep pick.

  • A singing guitar, Joe is a wizard

  • Although i like the version on the san fransisco live album more, this still is such a great song. Love it...

  • 3.33-3.36 XD holy shit

  • must...buy...whammy...

  • what the fuck is 3.33 - 3.36

    how can he do that??ahahaha

  • he just muted the strings with his picking hand and tapped the whole arpegio riff down the neck....

  • @foolsmakeitright92: he does that on the mystical potato head groove thing, except its way cooler sounding than the one he did here

  • @foolsmakeitright92

he holds the neck with his right hand and presses down acting almost like a capo, then he uses hammer ons and pull offs with his left hand

it's not that hard to do -- but it's hard to do it like him :P

  • Thanks for this clip ! This is the only G3 DVD I don't have... Stu Hamm looks so young and thin... ha ha ha...

What amazes me about Satch is how he can play *note for note* all of the melodies, solos, and taps... Take any live cut, and compare it to the studio cut... 99.9% the same. Crazy and beautiful at the same time. He is #1.

  • he is an alien... why do U think he always wears sun glasses? Cause when his eyes blink, they blink inward like a reptile!!! plus... what humans play as good as Vai & Satriani??? Hybrid???

  • Haha, OMG! Can't believe there's someone stupid enough in the WORLD! let alone youtube, who has the audacity and sheer ignorant stupidity to even call KFC man a good guitarist. The dude who got shunned by Ozzy because he thought he suddenly dissapear one day, leaving behind a note that said: I've been beamed up! HA ROFL PMSL! :DD

  • im guessing none of you have never been to a buckethead show.

  • @Ohiocubicle Buckethead's got nothing on Satch...

  • Comment removed

  • @Ohiocubicle Buckethead uses all kinds of synth effects and gimmicks for popularity. So sorry that's what gets your attention, but Satch has him beat hands down when it comes to true artistry.

  • @Ohiocubicle distortion and pedals? Have you actually watched Satriani play?

None of his music other than Surfing actually sounds like Surfing. Quite the opposite. Buckethead sounds like he has "variety" to your untrained ear because he uses synth, pedals, effects. You're blind if you can't see BH using external effects. Satriani uses his guitar, his wammy bar, and maybe one or two pedals to change the sound for different songs.

  • Dude. I am done arguing over our tastes in music. It's litterally not a big deal, i have my opinion, as well as you have yours. I do not care what you think of Buckethead, I see him as a great artist, with a huge variety, just like you to Satch. Period.

  • @Ohiocubicle: Since you're the one who started discussing tha mater, you have to subject yourself to some criticism. You can't expect everyone to agree with your point of view. And no, there is nothing that seems like Surfing with the Alien except that music itself. I agree with TJvigilante that the effects BH uses are nothing but attention gatherers.

  • I think the word you are looking for is versatile and r u kidding me? Nobody? Try Steve Morse. Try Andy Timmons. How about Trevor Rabin? Ritchie Kotzen?

BTW. Buckethead took from others.. Gilbert, Tom Morello, Jeff Beck, Satch, albert lee. But so what. He still needs to write memorable songs. Know why clapton is great? Cause he wrote alot of memorable songs. Know why malmsteen is not? Cause he didn't. YJM is great technically but in the end its about flavor and not how the meal is presented.

  • @Ohiocubicle Buckethead? HAHAHA, come on.

That Kfc head is nothing, all he do is mindless shredding and these so called "soulful" song of his everyone seems to come up with "sootsayer". Wow that's one song, I can give you 100 slow and nice songs of satch that buckethead can't even come close to and even fast solo's I bet buckethead couldn't play. Buckethead tried to replace Slash, look how that turned out. He shredded through the whole nightrain solo and sounded like crap.

  • best guitarist ever period at least he is the best one in my opinion I also want to make such groovy music :D

  • LET FRAMPTON PLAY!

  • I think the title at the start just sums up how good this is.

  • this song is COOOOL

  •
I am literally obsessed with this guy.
Me too!! *smile*

  • I'm going to assume this concert was at the Northrup Auditorium - November 1996 in Minneapolis, MN. The interior layout is exactly the same. I was there and remember Joe Satriani had worn this same shirt. The best live performance ever!

  • I think G3 always takes place in Tokyo.

  • This guy is an inspiration

  • I am literally obsessed with this guy. I have literally watch 3000 satch videos.

  • I've watched G3 featuring IngWe MalmSteen a dozen times

  • 3:32 - 3:37.

I knew that part was coming; I heard every note in my head as the song was progressing. But in spite of being prepared, my first reaction was "Are you f**king kidding me!!" I then immediately started laughing uncontrollably.

    Satch *is* a genius!

  • @dchinom I have the same reaction every time too, hahaha!

  • check out the live 2006 version,

    it's dope

  • JAJA

    FROM 0:00 TO 6:31

    MASTER!!!!!

  • this is y i love him...

  • You is the greatest guitarist in the world joe..!!!!!

  • @theunbelieveble777 but not his bass player

  • I agree with archer, Joe is totally the king of G3 in my opinion. Totally revolutionary, and doesn't let his obvious godliness get to his head. And I think that would be difficult if i could play like that.

  • 3:33 to 3:39 is just pure god.

  • this song just makes me wanna pick up high class hooker and make sweet sweet love to her with this song playing in the background.

  • What'd I say???? I have the first G3 on VIDEO and had to buy it on DVD because I'm such a fan. I have the next one also with Malmsteen (who I think is a little over the top - though technically brilliant). Satch is a one-off and I repeat - I just LOVE the way he seems to "discover" that first note and travel along on it. "Sufin' with the Alien"! Man! he looks "other-worldly" with those shades as he appears to look right at the camera on THAT note. IT's/HE'S brilliant/genuine. Vai'sthe showoff!!

  • How wonderfully "evil" is that first note that Satch's entire body seems to PUSH out of his axe? I just LERVE ya satch - with THIS one, anyway!!

  • Shut up.

  • What'd I say to upset you? Not at all intended. I love this piece. Each time I ply it I find myself leaning over into his image and travelling along on THAT note. It's PERFECT!!!!

  • It's not MY job to convince you how good Satch is - but if you watch from 1.35 - you'll know which "note" I refer to. You, obviously, have taken entirely the wrong idea from what i wrote. YOUR problem, mate. I am a Stch fan through and through. GET IT???!!!!

  • I love that note too!!! I keep playing it over and over again. I also love 4:18- 5:00

  • what clean tone!!!

  • Actually, more like one continuous jizz from 3:33 to 3:57

  • I came at 3:43

  • This is one of his best performances anyway, I got the CD and its inspirational to me! Look at the trail of inspiration and teachings he left, Steve Vai and Kirk Hammett, Metallicas own guitarist! Metal or not, you gotta love the work and technique to his songs! Hes one on his own!

  • yeah, it was somewhere in Novemeber 1996, I cant remember the date though

  • ....Just cool.

  • i feel like im watching a porn movie whenever i listen to that song :D

  • ROTFL

  • 3:32 is amazing!!!

  • great dvd

  • My favourite version of Cool#9 .

  • @Svartjarl you are rigth, that version is the best ;)

  • is hi a little bit same with lukather

  • rough on the sound transfer, but this is a great dvd

  • holy cow, did you notice that satriani does not age!!! THAT IS THE POWER OF ROCK

  • yeh its like vai, he looks like he was wen he was in his early 20s

  • @tetonsin haha actually he does age pretty badly .. he must usualy wear 30 lbs of make up on stage cuz i saw a vid of him n he loooks old

  • @tetonsin look up the video of him on vh1 with stevie ray vaughn... he has a tone of hair and looks years younger!!!!

  • he proves to us he is a superior being after 3:33

  • indeed he is

  • ya...

The overhand thing is cool, but the best part of the song is the bending with the wah right after that!

  • this is such a fantastic song. joe rocks. by the way, i did a version of it aswell. check it out if you like, im 15.

  • I think the "Epic Music Video" logo at the beginning sets the theme for the video itself! 5/5!

  • Just fantastic...

  • JS forever!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awsome guitarist and awesome guitar!!!!

  • muito bom sem contar na arte q é joe satriani tocar

  • Very nice song !!

  • im still confused

  • i got eric j mans guitar yesterday!

  • what pedal does he use at 4:26

  • that's a 90's crunch man..

  • Its a Fulltone Ultimate Octave..Thatsa serious box!!

  • i thought he used digitech whammy wh-1?

  • He does use the WH1 on all the super high foot modulated stuff.. but from 4:26-4:59 its the Fulltone Ultimate Octave..Its an on and off stomp box..Thats why he can walk around and over to Stu..and then has to get back @5:00 To do more Digitech Whammy. He uses the Fulltone on many songs..Even the new CD

  • oo i see, very nice. Thanks for clearing that up for me =]

  • ahh great.. so the bestfriends bought themselves an IBANEZ.. vai too uses an ibanez guitar.. wow man, ur a one lucky guy.. hahaha

  • hey, do you know what joe's strats are? it seem like a washburn or something like a ibanez.. they are great.. they ain't that cheap though.. perfect for virtuoso..

  • It's his own signature Ibanez model, the JS signature series...I think a new one goes for around $1400

I was lucky enough to play one at guitar center! it was excellent, but sadly too expensive for me ;)

  • If you like em you can get them used for around 900 or lower if you're really patient. They're AMAZING guitars, to the point where I feel bad not calling them "instruments" (if you know what I mean). Just give em a good look over before buying.

You could also go the route of getting an Ibanez 540R from the 80's/early 90's since they're the same body as the JS. That'd be a lot cheaper even after getting them a pickup/electronics upgrade.

  • 3:33 best moment ever

  • great joe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What I wouldn't give... to atleast be one of those stage hands... Woah...

  • A true virtuoso...

  • By dork I mean.....well....Stu seems to be someone to be enjoyed by closing your eyes...or focusing on the mechanics of his playing. If you watch him "getting into" what he's doing....It's like watching "Elaine" dance on Seinfeld...lol

  • Isn't that Stu Hamm on bass? Man....He's a great player....but what a dork...lol!

  • yeah, that's Stu Hamm on bass :] he's an excellent bass player! and by dork you mean? :P

  • hes wearing a damn toga lol

  • haha, yea his shirt is funny, but i wouldn't exactly call it a toga though :/

  • Disgustingly good

  • 3:44 = evil

  • Why does this sound different from the one that's on the actual G3 Live In Concert album?

    Sounds great regardless.

  • I noticed the same thing. So strange.

  • G3 is a tour, not a single concert. This video and the CD were taped at separate concerts.

Man, I must have watched this video 100 times back in my stoner days.. mesmerizing.

  • I think this was a 2 night G3 show at the time, brother.

  • ..different concerts.. By the way, i prefer this video version rather than the cd one, but they're all nice versions of this great song.

  • amazing PLAYER of the guitar and unbelievable live...u wudnt act believe how amazing he is...i see him as an incredibly evolved and technical blues player as he doesnt use alot of arpeggios compared to most shredders and he pkays alot of blues/minor scales which get to ur heart! he plays with alot of passion! and gets the crowd going mental :D

  • Fuck :P Solo is awesome, especially at 3:30

    Oragasimic!!!

  • So trippy...This is my favorite verison of cool #9.

  • He's playing an INTRO.

  • My dad went and saw G3...i missed out but he brought me back the CD. By now its so worn out from use that I had to transfer all the songs to my laptop as mp3s to preserve them!

If they can sound that good on a live CD imagine how they sound when you're actually there!

  • This is the best version of this song. Satch rules!

  • hey what is the title of the song??? tnx

  • The title is "cool #9".

Is good to learn how to read ;-P

  • "Is good to learn how to read"

It's also good to learn correct grammar.

  • "Is good to learn how to read"
