Sure I was using a steak knife, I thought I could work that pit out. I knew the risks. I'd be extra carful! That pit is slick, it spins lighting flast, and that avocado is so soft when it is ripe. Softer then the tisue in my hand that the knife slips into too quickly. Oh Shit! Did I? Yes, yes I did. Lucky for me I washed and pinched it quick enough. dummy!
Eeep severed nerve? :( Can you still move it? I had something similar to this but with doc teeth through the hand. And yes, THAT is the proper way to depit an avocado :)

OMG i think this one's my favorite so far - one time in art school i reached into my backpack for my x-acto knife, not knowing until the blade was all the way in my hand that the cap had fallen off. i pretended i was in reservoir dogs all the way to the emergency room.
I got a big scar on my left hand too, but...just not from errh...de-pitting avocados. Anyway, my dad told me to just insert (not stab!) the knife beside the pit and just push the knife down, and it'll pop out since the knife is a lever and whatnot, but erg, a dead finger gotta stink. So you'll be out of crafting for a while? :(
My sister, she did the exact same stunt only she cut two of her fingers of with her guinzu knife..and now that i think about it, she wasnt taking the pit out of an avocado but she only trying to kill herself... and she wasnt even my sister but this gal i had just broke up with because i was sleeping with her daughter...

I once made the exact same goof on the exact same finger on the exact same hand, with the exact same results...I was attempting to separate a couple of frozen burritos and r-r-rip! You shoulda called, I coulda saved you the trouble! Don't worry, the feeling comes back (mostly).
I just get a spoon and scoop it out. or eat around it. but thats just me :)
