The last time the two of us (wife and myself) flew from the USA to Frankfurt, our employer purchased all four adjacent inner seats towards the rear of the aircraft. The resulting flight, with room to stretch and recline more fully, was better than even business class seating. We also got four servings during each meal instead of the usual two. The meals, however, were not as good as those served in business class.

Wow! San Fran to Frankfurt! I bet that was one long long long trip. My flight from Washington D.C. to Frankfurt was almost 8 hours. How long was this flight?

@germanchocolate1982 this trip must have been around 11 hours. But then it's 9 hours time difference. You fly almost a "whole day".

Every United 777 I have flown has the seats in coach class configured 2-5-2. I have never flown in another carrier's 777, but I know most have 3-3-3.

Right, 4 in the middle. I go for window seats, and never pay much attention to the middle row anyway (unless distracted by a crying baby or fighting siblings - parents love longer rows so they can block the kids from the aisles THANK YOU).

A346 is longer but doesnt hav as many seats as the 747-400

In Lufthansa configuration (3-class) a 747-400 has 330 seats, a A340-600 306. But Lufthansa operates the A346 also with a two-class-configuration (economy and business), this planes have 345 seats!

Actually Lufthansa has 2 flights daily out of San Francisco. One to Frankfurt which normally will be on a 747 and one to Munich on a A346.

I dont think that is right because, when i when on a a330 which is smaller it had a seat pattern of 3-4-3, but in 1st class what i was in it was 2-3-2

A Lufthansa A340 has a seating pattern of 2-4-2!! a a330 is as wide as a a340, "your" a330 has obviously a narrower seating.

A330/A340 (Fuselage width 5,64 m) - 2-4-2 (8 seats)

Boeing 777 (6,20 m) - 3-3-3 (9 seats)

Boeing 747 (6,50 m) - 3-4-3 (10 seats)

1st class has larger seats so each group has 1 less, except for the aircraft that have the huge bed-like suites(i'd love 2 ride in 1).

My first trip to Europe was in Summer 2000, Lufthansa, same aircraft, SFO to Frankfurt, and I believe same flight number (455) as of always.  11 hours if I recall. What a majestic big bird. I wanna go back!
