MARI BOINE will be performing live in London on 04 November 2011, at Kings Place, as part of the London International Festival of Exploratory Music (LIFEM)... do not miss it!!!
Well, I think she thinks she is more sami than norwegian. The sami people have been mistreated under christian Norway. They are are brothers and sisters and have their share of the country just as we do. So let's have respect.
But samer, is a norwegian people, and they have been fighting for there rights for so long! It true that samene belongs to sweden, finland and norway this is called Lappland, but the Norwegian same is norwegian... And Im from the north not far from "Lappland" and samer have we learnd alot about in the school so i think I know a little bit...:) And I have the respeckt In norway we have something called freedom to express our self
of course i know this. I am Norwegian myself, but i know less about the treatment of the samis in other countries. But I have heard life wasn't easy in the other countries as well.
norway wasnt always christian, dont forget that, my grandmum nvr converted, she still told the old stories, i am norwegian, we have a fierce pride some of us, and it has nothing to do with christianity, that was a religion carried by others to many places, life existed long before the priests came,
What I have heard, is that the pagan vikings had a better relationship with the samis, and that conditions became worse after the vikings converted to christianity. I have also heard that the vikings learned a lot from sami shipbuilding, and we all know what great ships the vikings made.
Interesting - I would have liked to meet your grandmum. If you remember her stories, write them down for posterity! Otherwise her tales are important cultural ressources that will be gone forever.

You' re right. Same live Norwegians in Sweden and Finland. Swedish people in Norway and Finland (lock for Swedish names in the Finnish western parts.
Only in the Russian parts the Swedish, Finnish, the Norwegian, Danish names were killed to Russian names.
See my latest Video of Eastern-Karelia (today Russia).
