  • Lmao. Does this mean all welders are cutting-edge scientists?

  • gay

  • FAIL

  • Nederlands :p

  • in the laboratory?

    more like outside.

  • Wow, neat! I like stuff like this. Most interesting.

  • In a few weeks I will upload some videos of a 24 volt 2000 amp "Ball lightning generator", actually more like a spark generator....

  • There is very little plasma here. To make ball lightning it would require immensely strong magnetic fields, -high- voltage, and a very hot environment. The only way to make ball lightning is to discharge greater than 20KV at 10KA from a capacitor bank. This is low voltage, high amperage, great for sparks and welding but it is not nearly powerful enough to make much plasma. You need high voltage to make a strong magnetic field and high temperatures. High voltage will help to turn it to plasma.

  • @alextricity911 u dont need much power nor voltage to make much plasma

ionizing gas (--> plasma) is farly easy, check out your fluorescent lamp or energy saving lamps

  • Lol die stapel voedingen :D

Is het niet veel makkelijker gewoon een las apparaat daar voor te gebruiken :)

  • e se pega na cabeça de alguem ???

  • humm, that's molten iron burning. Why don't you little boy buy roman candles rather than that expensive machine to make small balls of molten iron burn?

  • Its not. I got this from wiki.

Some more recent experiments in 2007 involve shocking silicon wafers with electricity, which vaporizes the silicon and induces oxidation in the vapors. The visual effect can be described as small glowing, sparkling orbs that roll around a surface.

  • The video is lame because they don't tell you what they are doing.

  • It also sounds like they are speaking german, so it wouldn't matter either way.

  • what killbilla? where you expecting a nuclear fireball or something?

  • Roflol

  • that's just small pieces of metal burning, why don't you just light a piece of magnesium. There is no metal in the sky.

  • Nope thats charged gas that falls and rolls down. This isn't the best video. Some of the better videos show a much closer view of the plasma.

  • hot gas rises

  • Hot gas also falls when heavier then the surrounding air. In this case I believe they are using the typical method of instantly vaporizing silicon at the same time as infusing the gas with a very high charge. The silicon particles are oxidizing in the air...so technically it is both burning silicon in gas form, excited into a plasma state by the charge for a very short period of time. As silicon is technically a metal it is 'burning metal'

  • but this is just thermally isolated particles then, that radiate due to their internal vibrations, this doesn't have the ability to "discharge" collectively. also that isnt self sustained other than the fact that it radiates when combining with O2

  • Dusty Plasma.

  • nice"laboratory"

  • ahahaha yeah :D

  • I only see sparks.

  • LAME just sparks moving around

  • Isn't that just burning material (metal) from the arc welder?

  • Darxtarox, dont u mean the 4th state of Matter?

    Retarded Nigglet

  • U can see a little ball of electricity bouncing around near 9 and 10 secs! I was on a bus 1 nite and i saw a giant purple sphere of electricity form over a barn!

  • OMG!!!!! ARound 9 secs and 10 u can see a little ball of electricity boucing around on the table not jokin srsly plz look its kinda kool!

  • Yea it's plasma, the 5th state of matter. Basically, the atoms in the metal are so excited that the electrons are released freely to conduct. Ball lightning is just a self contained current.

  • you do know thats not ball lightning don't you ^^ its a new thing called sparks! wow lol

  • bryanvaldez13,

Where are you or what do you do that exposes you to a profusion of claims of ball lightning, there must be an enormous sample biased, how many people sniff out claims to ball lightning in there lifetimes?

  • I am so tired of people making sparks and calling it ball lightning! It is just a ball of hot metal shot off and spinning. The WATER steams up when the metal gets close and keeps the metal from touching the gound/water. If you want to see REAL ball lightning on a really dry day turn off the lights rub some wool on your hair and move the wool close to your hand slowly and you will see little balls of light glowing on your hand. I cant believe nobody has figured that out!!!

  • oh yeah caus i rub wool on my head all the time

  • too bad they only got one ball out of that whole video. It appears to have confused people, they think that all the sparks were labeled as ball lightning XD

  • I thought that was just slag from welding. haha.

  • It's a bit more than sparks. It's creating ball lightning based on a different theory, that it comes about due to the lightning turning the silica in the ground into vaporized silicon. Reports of ball lightning say it can bounce.

    Ball lightning != plasma.

  • actually ball lightning IS plasma... it's just self-contained... the motion and path of travelling charges within the glob of plasma produce the interesting properties. The behavior of the plasma varies depending on the power dumped into it and the manner in which it was created. But basically any self-contained glob of plasma which doesnt dissipate instantly can be labelled as ball lightning.

  • The bouncing has been described in numerous reports... often times it will bounce hap-hazardly off of a road almost like a beachball...

This sort of behavior varies depending on the motion of the charges within the glob. But the larger ones HAVE been reported to lazily rebound off of a solid surface.

  • That's Dutch science for ya right there, ahahha.

  • damn... you just invented sparks :) finally we get to cook our meat on open fire ;)

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa

  • yeah... isnt it possible these things they are making are just round hot sparks... -sarcastic- amaaazing

  • they r wierd... its just a spark....oooooo

  • What do you think lighting is, retard?

  • its electricity flowing through molicules or atoms. like touching each other and jumping electrom and stuff

  • Lightning is an atmospheric discharge of electricity that flows through a channel of ionized gasses. It's a big fucking spark (in laymen's terms). Ball lightning is usually found in areas with high levels of carbon and silicone in the soil (hence the effect in the vid).

  • exactly then ball lightning is a spark artard.

and hwo is lightning a spark.. for there to be a sprk there has to be an atom to charge with energy, so lighting is the flow of electrons, i know that the atoms are being charged as the lighting passes down, so it is a 'kin' to the spark, but its not a spark...

sorry to blow out your flame dude

  • its just sparks! jesus

  • sparks dont bounce, dumbass

  • yes they do, dumbshit

  • lol look at them bounce

  • idiots
