Not sure if this is same problem as I had or not, but if it flickers and stops when you move the screen back and forth it may be the screen cable shorting out against the screen mount. See my video "HP G50 Screen Flicker" to see what might be going on inside. I hope this helps everyone with one of these cr*ptops, I mean Laptops...
Hi sir, I have personally worked on hundreds of dv 4000s and what you are having is a LCD screen issue. These are also notorious for No video If any one needs help msg me I repair same day. If you are interested in selling this laptop or anyone msg me thank and have a great day.
i recorded this with the laptop apart. throughout this video, when the screen goes black, i was actually physically unplugging and plugging back in lcd connector to the mainboard while its on.....
i can use this computer with an external monitor source. i plug in to the monitor input or use s-video and can still use laptop as normal. so board is still functioning...
sorry you are incorrect this this is not a video card issue there is not a video card on this logic board it is all on board.... Also note the hinge issues where the rear bezel cracks. The video issue associated with this unit is from flexing across the motherboard due to the bad hinge design and bad placement of the BGA Southbridge chip

Hello I've got the same computer (HP pavilion DV4000) and... the same problem.
I found the problem is a false-contact in the screen cable (disassembling the computer, you will find the screen cable attached to the monitor).
Just disconnect the cable, and put it again. (In my computer, it must be turned on to solve the problem, otherwise, the malfunction remains.

oh... I almost forgot! You must disconnect the screen cable from the mainboard, not the monitor.
You can get the manual for dissasembling that computer from the HP-Online Support Chat (search in their site and explain the technician your problem)

I know what the problem is!
On 14 HP laptops, the NVidia graphics over heats always, and it burns the motherboard also, and you need a new motherboard...
BUT call HP and tell them about this problem, and there is a Recall warranty, and they will fix it free, even if the 1 year warranty passed
