@Poet2916 It is definitely not for a lyric mezzo. It's for a dramatic mezzo or contralto. For lyric mezzo, you should go with roles like Cherubino, Siebel, Cenerentola, Rosina, etc. Definitely pants roles.
She has the most breathtaking contralto voice since Marilyn Horne... In this aria she uses 3 complete "octaves" (i don't know the english word) which is exceptionnal for a singer from the very low B flat to high B flat !!!!! and I already heard her reaching a high flat D in a cadenza... Amazing !!!!
I've watched her hit that Bb over fifty times now. I can't get over it. Why isn't this woman getting productions built around her!!! Tancredi, favorita, this woman could singlehandedly revive bel canto with that voice!!
They should have made her a Scala Goddess after this - it seems Italians in the last 30 years are promoting only local nobodies in La Scala (idiotic coloraturas with 3-4 notes in the throat) - that is why the House has fallen worse than a local opera scene
eccellente, non posso credere come si possa dimenticare una cantante di questa maestosità... 3 ottave nella stessa aria.... la gloria la eterni e la benedica
I think that is what she is trying to do in this comedy....It's not meant to be taken seriously....With that in mind, she is great in this role---a very silly one!!
Is this a piece for a lyric mezzo? I'm a mezzo and I'm trying to learn new arias.
