  • We ar e playing this year in marching band and it gives me chill bumbs.. I love it!

  • @deviebras09 That's great to hear. But can someone tell me why this particular song is so popular with marching bands?

  • @0771skip i dont knoww....our marching band is playing this to but were only playing in block band no routings or anyhting

  • @0771skip yes i can, as i teach marching band. the song is really easy to play. its not one of santanas more technical songs. you can translate it easy to marching band and have it still be effective. marching bands thrive on that kind of music. plus the tempo is a good one to march to. very straight forward.

  • @laluenke Thanks for the info. That clears it up.

  • @0771skip IDK, but our band director said it was because this song has so much "music" in it, and its tempo and a lot of other good things that judges like! like logato and tenuto don't nag me if i misspelled those...

  • @TycoonsiPhone Thanks for the update. Don't know what they mean, never mind about the spelling ;-)

  • @0771skip I'm doing it in marching band this year too. I think one of the reasons is because its a slower one, so it would be good to relax to during halftime at a football game, and because it sounds completely awesome..

  • @deviebras09 i played it this year in marching band it is the best song every!

  • @deviebras09 me too!

  • we are playin this in our marching band show this year. sooo good

  • We're playing this, for this years marching band. :DD

  • We're playing this in marching band and every time our director asks us to take it out I say "There is a God!" This went from being "Oh just some song from band" to "HOLY CRAP I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • Ive learned of 60 of his guitar rifts and songs he truly is a great amongst legends

  • dude, my high school marching band played this song just a couple hours ago. It's easy to play but HARD to march.

  • wow didnt know there was singing (: i play this in my marching show this year and surprisingly the singing helps with my articulations (:

  • fuse me.....love it....two of my favorite musicians

  • @stork93 S.R., glad you're excited. G.

  • @stork93 SR: Glad you're excited. G.

  • Amazing, as usual. Placido Domingo and Santana make an irresistible combination.

Anyone knows what is with this "Novus" thing? From an opera or something? (please forgive my ignorance) :(

  • smutne

  • @Megesse smutne??? NO, no,no!

    The sublime and the beautiful!

  • beautiful, deep but very melancholic music, there are moments where it is very sad besides the optimistic lyrics. music is beautiful and bizzard considering this text.

  • we played this song in marching this year! along with his other two songs yaleo and Everybody's Everything. Iv become a Santana fan now. :D

  • Ha we played those same 3 songs in marching band last year. Santana shows must be pretty common...

  • How can one make a song so... damnn... beautiful. 'Tis the genius of Señor Carlos Santana.

  • in my view santana is the best at what he does but he never gets voted in the top ten ive got 25 albums by him still a few more to get

  • we played this last year in our marching show and i LOVE it!!!!

  • That's great to hear. Perhaps you will become a Santana fan from now on!!!

  • we're playing it this year and WOOHOO trumpet solo! lol

  • @scotty92994 lol yea we played this last year. Our first trumpet loved playing the solo, and from then on I've learned that solo on just about every instrument in our marching band

  • @wiiman250 lol what instruments do you play?

  • @scotty92994 I learned that solo on the Alto sax, tenor sax, trombone, tuba, baritone, clarinet, bass clarinet, xylophone, and piano. I have no life, I don't need telling lol. My main instrument is the trombone tho, played it for 8 years now.

  • @wiiman250 Thats pretty flipping awsome lol i've been playing trumpet for 6 years, i play a little guitar, and i someday really wanna play the oboe lol and dont worry i dont have a life either XD

  • @CherrrrrryyyyCrush lol thats funny we are playing it this year 2010

  • Absolutely phantastic! What a "Entree" for this new day! I thank you very much. Its wonderful music. Thank you so much!

I wish you a wonderful day!

  • Thank you

  • My pleasure.

  • very beautiful. Nuka.

  • Glad you like it.

  • Wow..This music is amazing.

I love this song. The melody, the lyrics. The spirit senses the sweetness.

Thanks so much for sharing this fantastic perfomance. Santana and Plácido Domingo.

    Great..!

  • I thank you from my heart dearest Sofia for this amazing share, not that i only like Santana but also this music of him is just fantastic and with a big Tenor like Domingo its amazing.

    wonderful dear.

    have a great weekend.

  • Wow, as his solo hits, I can feel literally every hair on my body rise. Only he can do this...

  • A guitar great and an opera great! What a combination.

I reccommend buying the album "Shaman," it has this song as well as a bunch of other great ones.

  • I love Carlos Santana. Thank you for keeping the comments positive. He deserves the respect he's getting for his music, unique style and tremendous talent to bring together great voices with his music.

  • Not only is Santana one of the greatest guitarists of all time but he also is one of the greatest musicians ever! You can play an instrument all you want but if you don't have musicality you're going no where.

  • He's also the greatest business man! He kept his career alive, bought his own 747, studio and road crew. Then toured and sold out arenas all over the world for 40 yrs! Long after the music industry had forgotten about him! Any other artist would have become has beens! At over 60 yrs of age he's still putting out new material. Other artists from his generation haven't had any new material in over 30 yrs!

  • In the 60's Santana concerts always sold out. In the 70's when disco emerged, Santana concerts sold out. In the 80's when hair bands and soft rock ruled the day, Santana concerts sold out! In the 90's with alternate rock, hip hop, boy bands and what not, Santana concerts sold out! Now in the 21'st century Santana concerts are still selling out!

  • Well sad my friend. Santana is like a fine wine. Always good but the older the better.

  • i cry ,amazing talent

  • Totally agree, absolutely amazing.

  • True!

What is technique worth without an emotional expression...

But for me as a musician myself I think its important to develop and find new ways to express myself and in that matter I dont feel that Santana has changed so much.

But it really doesnt matter if you really love his style, I can eat food with the same taste all my life and still enjoy it so i guess its the same with Santana :-)

  • Well there are quite a few Jazz and Fusion guitarists that surpass Carlos to be sure. But as far as the Rock and Pop genres are concerned, everyone needs to look up to him. And that includes the so-called shredders!

  • I mean he IS Santana. To BE Santana is more than just playing the guitar. IT takes other qualities to be a legend. He has become one even without being the most skilled guitarist in the world. Its personality and an honest passion for music that is the key i believe. Especially an honest expression I would say. Nowadays Artists last shorter because of too much control from the industry money interest.

  • Santana took control of his career early on. He could be my manager any day! When many other artists would have made dumb ass decisions and squandered their "Big Break" by buying expensive European sports cars, lavish mansions and lions and tigers for pets, Santana invested his money into his own career. He looked out for #1 because he knew the industry would pile him on the trash heap more sooner than later. He kept going on his own for over 4 decades!

  • Well written and a good point u have...

The structure of the industry could swallow a "Wanna be" pretty fast and spit it out in the next second. If you want to express yourself with music I find it devastating with all this upper control for how it should sound to be a hit and so on... There are reasons for why Santana survived for so many decades so maybe other should learn from him instead :-)

  • Its nice with musicians that has a trademark. I saw Santana In Stockholm in the 80's and Besides a little more wrinkles in his face he still plays very well.

He is definately not the most technical guitarist but he plays with his heart and thats why he has last so long i believe.

  • I cannot comment on the technical side of his playing because I am not a musician, but as someone who loves the sound of the guitar and has listened to numerous artists over the years, I think he has a very distinctive, if not unique style and I don't think many guitarists, of the non classical background, can hold a candle to him. To me his sound is beautiful and simply the best.

  • Well, it's not so much about technique as it is about theoretical knowledge and harmony. Carlos' lack of training in those areas limit him as far as being able to play and improvise against more complex chord progressions. So for the most part, Carlos is limited to playing against slow moving progressions with more simple harmonies. But that's OK because he's not a Jazz player after all. What he does is good enough for the genre of music that he plays in.

  • I love this song! Although I dont think santana Technical has improved much over the years. He IS still Santana and his sound and technique still make him stand out as just Santana and all respect for any musicians that can create a trademark that haslast so long.

The brilliant with this song is the combination Opera afro drums together with a totally heart touching theme melody that goes through the song. The best guitar phrase is for me his first in this song. Pure Carlos Santana....

  • Thanks for your comments. Glad you like it.

  • Ahhhhhhhhhh? LOL

  • Totally ripped off Zelda.

  • file select theme right?

  • Man, Santana is just vicious on guitar...it seems like his playing keeps getting more fresh as he ages. Weird.

  • I think he keeps himself fresh by playing with so many different artists. All the different styles and influences are bound to have an affect.

  • in the end when domingo song louder santana got played higher on his guitar that is what you call musicainship.OUTSTANDING!!!!!!

  • I totally agree, outstanding!!

  • Perfect. Just perfect.

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • At first when i bought the Shaman album i couldn't believe how Santana's guitar and Placido's voice could ever fit in the same song... when i listened to the song for the first time i didn't like it at all, but then i started to like it and realized that this song is a masterpiece. It's a perfect combination of Santana's rock and the Spanish tenor voice... now it's my favorite song from him. The perfect combination of two music geniuses!!

  • I know exactly what you mean and agree wholeheartedly with what you say. Thanks for your comment.

  • Happy New Year!!!!! And may all good music get better and all new music be good...

  • The whole Shaman album is fantastic and this song is a perfect fit...

  • Yes, I agree, a fantastic album and what a superb mix of electric guitar and an operatic voice. As you say, a perfect fit. Thanks for your comment.
