I noticed, there are a lot of kids saying they're playing this in marching band... I'm playing this marching band... Send me a message, guys, if you get what I mean by "EXCITEMENT!" "Go Camels!"
@0771skip yes i can, as i teach marching band. the song is really easy to play. its not one of santanas more technical songs. you can translate it easy to marching band and have it still be effective. marching bands thrive on that kind of music. plus the tempo is a good one to march to. very straight forward.
@0771skip IDK, but our band director said it was because this song has so much "music" in it, and its tempo and a lot of other good things that judges like! like logato and tenuto don't nag me if i misspelled those...
@0771skip I'm doing it in marching band this year too. I think one of the reasons is because its a slower one, so it would be good to relax to during halftime at a football game, and because it sounds completely awesome..
We're playing this in marching band and every time our director asks us to take it out I say "There is a God!" This went from being "Oh just some song from band" to "HOLY CRAP I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
it sounds like legend of zelda a little at the beginning before the guitar comes in. we are playing this in our marching show this year! how exciting!
beautiful, deep but very melancholic music, there are moments where it is very sad besides the optimistic lyrics. music is beautiful and bizzard considering this text.
@scotty92994 lol yea we played this last year. Our first trumpet loved playing the solo, and from then on I've learned that solo on just about every instrument in our marching band
@scotty92994 I learned that solo on the Alto sax, tenor sax, trombone, tuba, baritone, clarinet, bass clarinet, xylophone, and piano. I have no life, I don't need telling lol. My main instrument is the trombone tho, played it for 8 years now.
@wiiman250 Thats pretty flipping awsome lol i've been playing trumpet for 6 years, i play a little guitar, and i someday really wanna play the oboe lol and dont worry i dont have a life either XD
I thank you from my heart dearest Sofia for this amazing share, not that i only like Santana but also this music of him is just fantastic and with a big Tenor like Domingo its amazing.
I love Carlos Santana. Thank you for keeping the comments positive. He deserves the respect he's getting for his music, unique style and tremendous talent to bring together great voices with his music.
Not only is Santana one of the greatest guitarists of all time but he also is one of the greatest musicians ever! You can play an instrument all you want but if you don't have musicality you're going no where.
He's also the greatest business man! He kept his career alive, bought his own 747, studio and road crew. Then toured and sold out arenas all over the world for 40 yrs! Long after the music industry had forgotten about him! Any other artist would have become has beens! At over 60 yrs of age he's still putting out new material. Other artists from his generation haven't had any new material in over 30 yrs!
In the 60's Santana concerts always sold out. In the 70's when disco emerged, Santana concerts sold out. In the 80's when hair bands and soft rock ruled the day, Santana concerts sold out! In the 90's with alternate rock, hip hop, boy bands and what not, Santana concerts sold out! Now in the 21'st century Santana concerts are still selling out!
What is technique worth without an emotional expression...
But for me as a musician myself I think its important to develop and find new ways to express myself and in that matter I dont feel that Santana has changed so much.
But it really doesnt matter if you really love his style, I can eat food with the same taste all my life and still enjoy it so i guess its the same with Santana :-)
Well there are quite a few Jazz and Fusion guitarists that surpass Carlos to be sure. But as far as the Rock and Pop genres are concerned, everyone needs to look up to him. And that includes the so-called shredders!
I mean he IS Santana. To BE Santana is more than just playing the guitar. IT takes other qualities to be a legend. He has become one even without being the most skilled guitarist in the world. Its personality and an honest passion for music that is the key i believe. Especially an honest expression I would say. Nowadays Artists last shorter because of too much control from the industry money interest.
Santana took control of his career early on. He could be my manager any day! When many other artists would have made dumb ass decisions and squandered their "Big Break" by buying expensive European sports cars, lavish mansions and lions and tigers for pets, Santana invested his money into his own career. He looked out for #1 because he knew the industry would pile him on the trash heap more sooner than later. He kept going on his own for over 4 decades!
The structure of the industry could swallow a "Wanna be" pretty fast and spit it out in the next second. If you want to express yourself with music I find it devastating with all this upper control for how it should sound to be a hit and so on... There are reasons for why Santana survived for so many decades so maybe other should learn from him instead :-)
Its nice with musicians that has a trademark. I saw Santana In Stockholm in the 80's and Besides a little more wrinkles in his face he still plays very well.
He is definately not the most technical guitarist but he plays with his heart and thats why he has last so long i believe.
I cannot comment on the technical side of his playing because I am not a musician, but as someone who loves the sound of the guitar and has listened to numerous artists over the years, I think he has a very distinctive, if not unique style and I don't think many guitarists, of the non classical background, can hold a candle to him. To me his sound is beautiful and simply the best.
Well, it's not so much about technique as it is about theoretical knowledge and harmony. Carlos' lack of training in those areas limit him as far as being able to play and improvise against more complex chord progressions. So for the most part, Carlos is limited to playing against slow moving progressions with more simple harmonies. But that's OK because he's not a Jazz player after all. What he does is good enough for the genre of music that he plays in.
I love this song! Although I dont think santana Technical has improved much over the years. He IS still Santana and his sound and technique still make him stand out as just Santana and all respect for any musicians that can create a trademark that haslast so long.
The brilliant with this song is the combination Opera afro drums together with a totally heart touching theme melody that goes through the song. The best guitar phrase is for me his first in this song. Pure Carlos Santana....
At first when i bought the Shaman album i couldn't believe how Santana's guitar and Placido's voice could ever fit in the same song... when i listened to the song for the first time i didn't like it at all, but then i started to like it and realized that this song is a masterpiece. It's a perfect combination of Santana's rock and the Spanish tenor voice... now it's my favorite song from him. The perfect combination of two music geniuses!!
