  • ALBATROSS!

  • WOW, I'm stoned and didn't smoke a thing!

  • i cried.....

  • Holy Crap. Where have all the killer guitars gone?

  • El gran Richiet Blackmores y el espacial vocalista de todos los tiempos Ronnie James Dio 1942-2010

  • well, perfect using effect with a good inspiration made a magic moment

  • my "best solo ever" by Ritchie is better...but this is darn good. By the way, 2 of my uploads made the official Ritchie Blackmore FB page

  • ritchtie ist der beste.......

  • Blackmore is awesome for sure!!! A true legend but lets not forget that this was an all star cast in Rainbow....I mean give some credit to the legendary Cozy Powell for keeping the song tight with his awesome drumming.

Nevertheless, great version but the version from Rainbows "Live on Stage" album is the best guitar solo for catch the rainbow sounds more polished than this German version.,

  • @turboplazz This is true but Ritchie fought to get people like Cozy and Ronnie in the group.

  • I wish I was born in time to have seen this live..damn

  • The second Rainbow's formation is also good like Zep japan 71 !

  • So if this '76 version was rated the 3rd best live solo, was the number 2 Richies live solo of Catch the Rainbow of 1977-78? And number 1 Richies live solo of Catch the Rainbow from 1979-80?

  • the best

  • The mans the best! By a mile

  • there are sooo many! Personnally I think the version on the DVD Rainbow Live in Munich 1977 is better. Check it out!

  • I saw Rainbow twice at this time and i liked them so much ! Ritchie Blackmore is a legend, I'm proud to saw him at his peak !

Rainbow in Germany is a great recording. I've bought it few years ago.

  • No toca... acaricia una guitarra!!!

    Un maestro...

  • Ritchie Blackmore the legend.... The great Ritchie Blackmore the best for me

  • Maybe not the best, but a remarkable one. anyway, his worst is the impossible to reach for the rest, so right, call it whatever you like. It is still great. GOD. Full stop.

  • yea its good. just a bunch noise really tho. way to fast to enjoy

  • did not know he could play like that

  • best guitarist to have ever lived . stuff hendrix or page . this is absolutely the best ever....maybe rory gallagher is close....appart from that no one .

  • listen to the swirly woosh of his phaser pedal - very much Hendrix influenced this one. Catch the Rainbow was his Littlewing/Wind cries Mary. Ritchie is the most dynamic and creative guitarist since Hendrix. There hasnt been anybody to touch him since - vai, malmsteen and satriani have the technical ability but not the magic and inspiration that Hendrix and Blackmore had.

  • Another mind blowing solo by The Master Blackmore!

  • @roscali disagree BIG time there .... but we all have our opinions .... Ritchie is a master live, there is no disagreements there :)

  • This is not his best solo at all. Listen to the 'Live in Koln 1976' version of this song. Mind blowing. This one is just an average one for Ritchie B

  • pity we will never get to catch the rainbow again,i wish ritchie would just say one last good bye,to all that raised the rainbow ,see it shine for you and i one last time so we can ride it and see it one lat time and have rainbow in our eyes again....

  • uh yeah ritchie is stunning as always but i have to comment on a different matter...

so the other guitar players "copied" the sweep picking 0o? i mean just because he used a technique and then someone else uses a technique... it's called copying?

wow... he's a master and there's no arguing on that... but fanboys are really idiots!

  • 3:57 - 4:01 the bridge to the second part of the solo. Just unbelievable how can someone playing a 3 second tune can leave you with your mouth open.

  • DIO is the best

  • Yes, Wring that Neck is the best example of how guitarist copied the sweep picking style of Ritchie not to mention the beautiful arpeggios he did on that piece of legend.

  • where can I find the entire song?? (Blackmore is a legend... he mixes rock blues and classical music as nobody)

  • @PetroASR It's off the double-album Rainbow in Germany from 1976. It'll be difficult to find in stores, I managed to find it online through the website filestube.

  • @ahmeri18 can you imagine - I still have the tape-cassette of this concert, which I bought back in 78.. I don't use it anymore of course, but I keep it as a relic of true art..

  • @ahmeri18 Wow, what 2 solos were better than this?

  • @PetroASR

for me personally this is the perfect song. The best version is on the LP "On Stage".

  • Ritchie was sweep picking from the late 60,s(check out ring that neck with his 335 in his purple days!).He was way beyond what every other rock guitar was doing and ppl just realising now cos Malmsteen copied him.

He also scalloped his strats from early 70,s and, while i admire Malmsteen,i wish he would just be honest about where he got his idea (the lute story is just bull, his fave guitar player is Ritchie and ,a bit of a coincidence maybe? He even coped his moves and dress sense!).

    Brilliant !

  • one of the most talented guitarist ever walked the earth!

  • one of the best solo ever!!!ritchie blackmore one of the most talented guitarist ever walked the earth!

  • This is fantastic but I still prefer the 'On Stage' version, not so much for the guitar solo but for the magic moment when Ritchie quietly plays out and then Cozy brings the second solo back in with a massive ,solid drum roll.

  • FUCKING INCREDIBLE. \m/{--}\m/

  • Is Ritchie doing sweeping arpeggios at 2:11? It appears so, but in 1976?? That would be incredible?

  • @xuxis2008

Dude Yngwie copied all his shit note for note. I saw Yngwie at one of his first American gigs and he dressed exactly like Blackmore and did all his stage moves. Blackmore is so ahead of his time people are just now catching up! LOL

  • @xuxis2008 .....look for deep purple live in bilzen 1969 and ritchie is sweeping even then

  • @arealmate Really? That´s awesome! I foud it here on youtube, but could you tell me in what song exactly Ritchie sweeps? Thanks

  • @arealmate Oh yeah... I have just seen it. Almost shitted in my pants. Unbelievable speed, precision and fire, 15 years before Malmsteen and almost 20 years before Gambale. The seeping is amazing, to say the least, not to mention the fusion sonic speed licks. Blackmore is the greatest guitarist ever.

  • @arealmate Yeah, the Bilzen 69 Wring That Neck is incredible. That's 42 years ago!! He was miles ahead of his time.

  • Jimi Hendrix Jimmy Page and Ritchie Blackmore its TOP 3 BEST GUITARISTS EVER !!!

  • As long as there is YouTube and CD's, DVD's DIO is alive.

These musicians make our life better, and we theirs.

  • He did some other stuff in Germany in 1976 that were better I thought. Especially on Greensleeves

  • This song, in all it's live versions (On Stage, Live in Germany 1976, DVD Live in Munich 1977), is Rainbow's "anthem", much like Smoke on the Water is Deep Purple's and Stairway to Heaven is Zeppelin's.

For me, though, there is NOTHING like Catch the Rainbow. It has everything: blazing guitar solos, soulful vocals, driving drums, assisted by a solid bass line and what I call a "wall of sound" from the keyboards. To me it's the ULTIMATE rock anthem...hands down!

  • I have this recording. This version of the solo, as well as the song, is great. But I think the version on "Onstage" is even better.

"Live In Germany 1976" is a more thorough and accurate chronicle of a Rainbow concert, since, for some reason I have yet to learn, "Onstage" was edited. But both Ritchie and Ronnie are better on "Onstage". I think Ritchie’s solos on that album in "Catch The Rainbow", Mistreated", and "Still I'm Sad" are the best versions I have heard.

  • Utter genius, just UTTER genius. So melodic and inventive, real emotion in his playing. Oh, and by the way, can I have some of what dickensbg has been smoking, what on earth are you gibbering on about?!!!

  • This is indeed the greatest rock songs of all times. And will always be. I don't know if I like the studio variant more than this one, but it still makes it the greatest song. Stairway To Heaven is one great song, but I think this one is better.

  • Be sure! And all these SPICES IN THE LYRICS make Ronnie the best STORY TELLER of ALL TIMES. But with Ritchie they WERE DRAWING PICTURES TOGETHER which definitely makes them THE BEST TANDEM in rock. At the end I will say: POOR GRAHAM BONNET AND JOE LYNN TURNER. They never knew what should be done.

  • only blackmore

  • The Best song Ever!!

  • Thanks for the comments everyone

  • @ahmeri18 I think the best Blackmore' solos with Rainbow are Catch the Rainbow and Sixteen Century Greensleeves on the On Stage album.

  • THIS IS NOT an add. THIS IS SONG KILLING. LISTEN AND READ. Ronnie is singing at the at the end of the song MAKE IT shy, shy, shy and so on 7 times, SINCE THE RAINBOW HAS GENERALLY SEVEN COLOURS. THEIR MUSIC IS FULL WITH A LOT OF DETAILS, APART FROM NICE MELODY, GOOD ARRANGEMENTS. And all together makes them GREAT. So once again you are killing the song by cutting the moment described.

  • @dickensbg I've got no clue what you're talking about but I uploaded this only for the solo so yeah

  • @ahmeri18 They had no clue what they were talking about, too. "Make it shy"... hahaha... hilarious.

  • @ahmeri18 loool

  • @dickensbg ..It seriously doubt that Dio sang shy(shine) 7 times cause theres 7 colors in a rainbow...I believe you think too much.

  • @4eyedCyclopes You know how many times they sang about Rainbow's? Rainbow in the dark was Dio by himself even.

  • @dickensbg Agreed , He chopped off the best bit - torture!

  • @dickensbg You see deeply, my friend.

  • @dickensbg what are you raving about?

  • yeah, amazing one!!

  • Cool. Great post.

  • ritchies greatest solo i've ever heard

  • It sounds fantastically, just makes me feel creepy all over, thank you Mr.Blackmore=) And Dio, you are the best thing that ever happened to me. We will miss you.

  • Blackmore belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • R.I.P. Dio you will be missed

  • Ritchie is amazing!! That solo was fantastic!! Just Incredible!!! Wow!!!

  • Tnx for sharing this amazing TMIB clip.....one of the classic best solo so far! 5/5*

  • try this..also RB greatest solo

    watch?v=VSu7SnbBdNg

  • Wow that was simply incredible. Its amazing blackmore could just do that spontaneously. Best guitarist ever
