  • 00:03 look how funny Mozart runs

  • 02:35...Mozart's like "kiss my genius butt, old man!'

  • It's hilarious to watch Salieri be the only one to make a teeny tiny effort not to kiss the Emperor's ass all the time. Everyone in the room thinks the Emperor's dumb as a post but Salieri seems to be the only one who's not resigned to grovelling before an idiot.

  • @AtenRa - Lol, yeah, I didn't notice that but since you pointed it out such does seem to be the case. Actually though, there was one other guy present who didn't constantly yesman him - Baron van Swieten. They had a close working relationship for a number of years and didn't always agree on everything. But Emperor Joseph was progressive enough to allow alot of advances to occur within Austria and not just a few of those forward-thinking changes came from the Baron.

  • this is one of my fav movies <3 i love this film!

  • What's that lovely tune called at the beginning of part 3?

  • @ESMININA7 Turn on comments to see it. Serenade no. 10 for thirteen winds in B-flat Major, K.361, Gran Partita, 3rd movement.

  • the "herrr director's" comment that 'all educated people agree on that' (that opera sounds better in Italian then German) is actually quite a nasty insult to make to the Emperor, as although Joseph the II was well meaning and tried to imrpove Austria greatly with reform's his education was very limited..... If he had been a little more quick on the uptake the herr direcotr might have fond himself in some trouble

  • Mozart is just a few feet away from Baron Van Swieten (9:55) then at 10:05 it gets double :)

  • Salieri's piece @ 6:37? Or was it just a 'film score'?

  • These segments are ten minutes long, but I could SWEAR they are shorter than that. The hallmark of a truly great movie.

  • Where is part 4?

  • EPISODE IS HAVING COPYRIGHT PROBLEMS!!!!

THUMBS UP SO Marianmus CAN SEE THIS!!!!

  • mozart kicks ass

  • i read somewhere that the director chose her to replace Meg Tilly because she was not 'too pretty' to play the daughter of an innkeeper, but I think Elizabeth Berridge is beautiful- she has an infectious sweet smile

  • @sslohier Actually they replaced Meg Tilly because she tore a ligiment in her leg while play soccer with a bunch of kids a day before she and Tom were about to shoot together and she would have to be in the hospital for 5 weeks, so they had to find a quick replacement for her and they chose Elizabeth.

  • @sslohier - She is, however, regrettably a weak link in an otherwise strong cast. I have no idea how she got the role, besides what is written here.

Hulce is no Olivier, either, but in fairness he gave the performance of his career in 'Amadeus'.

Abraham, on the other hand, was sheer genius as Salieri; so much so, that the title could justly have been changed to 'Salieri'.

  • @Galantski she was.. but she was adorable enough to pull it off. And while she was a bit flat and common, she didn't overact. She has this nice, unpretentious, pragmatic quality to her delivery that i quite admire.

  • what's the brown hair's man's name? IDK !

    plz help

  • what's the brown hair's man's name? IDK !

  • what's the brown hair's man's name?

  • The best performance of the Serenade for Winds! I haven't heard a better one. And I LOVE the episode where Salieri describes it! Never fails to bring tears into my eyes))

  • @HelenaVanCity Try the version by the Berlin Philharmonica Wind Ensemble. I'm just an amateur when it comes to music, but I like that version better. It's smoother and not so rushed. No dishonor on the Academy of St. Matrin in the Fields, but the berliners makes it more silky smooth. You can find both versions (and many more) on Spotify.

Also, on the soundtracks, you can much easier hear the beginning Salieri describes... the "pulse" from a "rusty squeezebox". :)

  • Can someone tell me the name of the actor who plays the Archbishop?

  • @tnakai1971jp According to IMDb: Nicholas Kepros

  • @mkarnerfors

Thank you for pointing out. He does not have much on the Internet. I really like his performance.

  • i really appreciate how you've put up annotations of what the pieces are- extremely helpful for looking up those pieces later on!

  • I luv this movie, all the actors made a great job with their roles, thank for having it here and with such awesome quality

....The minutes from 4:32 on are my favorites, I just love the talk of the emperor with the court, is excellent!!!

  • I luv this movie, all the actors made a great job with their roles, thank for having it here and with such awesome quality

  • The emperor is one of the most down to earth emperors I've seen in film

  • what a pity that because of Pushkine and this movie, most people have a wrong idea of Salieri. He was a true friend to Mozart, one of the few who really understood the genious, one of the few who attended his funeral

  • @msinvincible2000 and even helped his widow out financially after Mozart's death and he also taught Mozart's son music

  • I want Mozart's hat!!!! It's epic!!!

  • @spareaxe I think they show power because the powerful people in the 1700s have white wig but I could be wrong

  • @Shader013 that was a use that was put into play by many who wore the wigs, it started as a trend in fashion to prevent lice, and it became popular with the nobility who could afford to maintain those wigs

  • What's with the white wigs?

  • "That giggling dirty minded creature" was the creature I so love!!

  • love his attitude!!!!

  • this is a music ive never heard before either wow

  • please!!! the name of the start or 2:52 please, per favore, por favor!!!

  • @adavaita Serenade for Winds K.361 in B Flat (III Mov.)

  • tom hulce as mozart wonderful paper i cant believe the quality of this film is very good GOD BLESS AMERICA hehehehe

  • i love herr direktorys reaction on minuto 10:22 jejejejjejeje

  • i love the mozart in this film!! i swear if he were still alive he'd be my best friend

  • I love how everyone has tall white hair, even the kids and then Salieri's like: thin layer of brown hair tied up in a ponytail

  • Jeffrey Jones (the man who plays the emporer) is a convicted child sex offender. I'm surprised he continues to find work in Hollywood.

  • @vonda919 This movie was made over 20 years ago

  • @youngfart40 Yes....but he was in the news as recently as July this year with being arrested on a felony charge because he failed to update his sex offender registration. He recieved 3 years probation and 250 hours community service. He got 5 years probation for having a 14 year old boy pose for explicit photos and having other child porn. He plead no contest. So, if Mel Gibson can get such publicity for what he does, why doesn't Jeffrey Jones deserve to also?

  • hey can u tell us wat is this piece called is so beautifull for us the lovers of his music

  • ED ROOONEEYY!!

  • I love the way the tune in he beginning picks up!!! It's awesome.

  • they are all so beautiful! why don't i have three heads?! AHAHAHAHA!!!!

  • I am and always be an atheist...but that music truly is the voice of God.

  • lol, the kapelmaister character doesn't really make sense. He acts totally random :)

  • does anyone know what piece this is in the beginning?

  • wat is it that he plays in the beginning

  • gracias por subir esta pelicula!!!!!!!! ES BELLISIMA!!!

  • UH-HAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • Love how gloriously he leaves the archebishop´s quarters... hehehe

  • when Mozart laughs i'm like pleasemakeitstoppleasemakeitstoppleasemakeitstop!!!!!

it's sooooo annoying, i love Salieri, sooooooo gentle and steady, the perfect virtuos composer. <3

  • "ITS SOO MAVELUS AND I LAV IT!! " 83

  • @TheMilfman7 "HIS THE OTHE VON"

  • @TheMilfman7

    forgive him, he's german :D

  • "Well, there it is." Wonder how many times he says that...

  • One word to describe this movie. Beautiful! I believe they should make a fine remake of this.

  • @DrAvesta It is a beautiful movie - visually, musically, emotionally. So why would they need to remake it? It's perfect the way it is. :)

  • Beethoven or Mozart? You pick.

  • 4:45

OMG that's the intro of Beyond Abilities by Warmen!

Go check the song, it's awesome Neoclassic metal XD

  • @jesuislepluscool

have you found the intro for Return of Salieri by Warmen ?

i think it is in the end of the film.

  • i love how drastically bad the made king josef out to be as a musician lol

  • What the name of the piece 2:58

  • Who ever wrote Amadeus knew Mozart's soul. How else could the description of hs music be so profound?

  • Mozart laughs like a Gay man ! A sort of high pitched shrill laugh ! I have heard gay men laughing like this in movies ! But in real life Mozart was not gay at all !

However he was considered palyful !

May be that is why they are showing his nature through this annoying laugh !

  • what piece is Salieri talking about at 3:20 ? anyone knows?

  • What is the name of the song at 0:11

  • even children had white hair :-)

  • what piece is this of mozarts?

  • jacked up man!!!

  • me encanta esta pelicula... como Salieri describe lo hermosa que es la musica, algo que la gente ya no aprecia mas

  • Jeffrey Jones looks like George Washington...

  • "The voice of God!" You heard that?! Mozart's definetely a God's instrument to let everyone know where does Beauty come....

  • how old was mozart suppose to be in this movie

  • @RockAngel171901 maybe 20 or 19

  • 2:40

the kids trying to get the wine always cracks me up, ha ha

  • @PapagenoJuan lol did notice that

  • thank you so much for posting this. and the way you've cut it is beautiful! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

  • el mejor momento es cuando le muestra el culo al arzobispo

  • Salieri describing the song while it was playing made me appreciate the song more.

  • desde el minuto 5:45: ¿Que pedo maestro?

  • hey man thanks for uploading so that I get to watch this movie again.

I watched it when i was very little....and i still remember it was one my fav music film.

  • where can i find the song for the beginning of this video

  • Woah, his Majesty is horrible at sight reading.

  • lol I think hes pretty good compare to alot of piano players these days.

  • love the actor that plays the emperor, whats his name?

  • Jeffrey Jones

  • thank you so much! :D

  • You're wellcome, I really like him too... I think he is a fine actor, full of nuances in his performance.

  • I loved his role in Ed Wood too. He was funny as hell there.

  • @Windermarin hes actually in prison now because he molested a couple young boys.

  • 4:25 Sends chills down my spine every time.

  • I might be wrong, but the idea of comments is to write about the video, or, in this case, this part of the movie, but I am probably wrong!

yo creo q la respuesta de salieri en el minuto 06:14 fue muy astuta, jeje

  • extraordinary performance on Salliery's character

  • Absolutely.

  • @marianmus he truly was splendid, but i think tom hulce should've gotten the oscar for best actor.

  • @itried2dohandstnds4u And exactly why not?

  • @iceburner03: I agree with you. The best part of the movie is the actor who played Salieri. He is very classy and well-mannered. Excellent actor! A true talent.

  • @iceburner03 F. Murray Abraham does the performance of a lifetime, yes. The best effort is the one we never really think of: the difference between the old and young Salieri. Along with the makeup artists (who also won an Academy Award for this by the way) he makes a perfectly credible portrayal of an old man.

I also love the storytelling of the old Salieri. He outputs emotion so well. For example... "It had to be! *pause* It better be...". The bitterness just soaks through. Love it!

  • esta pelicula es preciosa, larga pero interesante.

  • Especilly German Shepards, LOL!

  • I personally think the Opera should be in Italian. Its about love and having a Gay time.

  • People watching this. What Language do you think the Opera be in?

If the subject is love, Italian

If the subject is hate and war, German.

  • @dacatholicbandorgan : zauber flut about hate & war ?

  • I guess.

  • one of the most stupid comments i've ever read

  • @dacatholicbandorgan

How about if the subject is fascism, media moguls controlling government, and organized crime, it's in Italian, and if it's about scientific progress, overthrowing the Romans, and composing the most beautiful music ever made, it's in German?

Both languages have beauty, just like both cultures. Saying Italian=love and German=hate and war is racist dribble.

  • Well, its just a matter of taste for me. I am not implying any of those cultures are about that. Many operas that take place in one County use the language of an other country. (Like how Carmen takes place in Spain but the Opera is in French).

I speak some German, some Spanish and a lot of Latin. I'm sure even you would think a love scene should be, betwwen the two in Italian not German.

Besides I am part German, why would I want to put down my own heritage?

  • how about what ever the composer feels comfortable with?

  • TO MANY NOTES! HAHA! CLASSIC!

  • After searching for the song it's not the 3rd movement, it's a combination of 2 movements of Mozart's Gran Partita. The begining is indeed the start of the 3rd movement: Adagio. The end is of the 7th movement: Molto Allegro.

  • Watched this movie today in class and we never got to finish it.

so i had to continue watching

    i loveee his laugh xD

  • Could someone be so kind as to tell me the name of the piece that is playing from 0:00 till 1:07

  • For maximmus86: It is the Serenade For Winds, K 361 - 3rd movement.

  • Comment removed

  • I believe it is Gran Partita. Serenade No. 10 for Winds in B Flat Major.

  • my favourite movie...***** hahahahaha...xD funny laugh OMG...

  • LOL @ 7:07 TO 7:14.....

    And i LUV it!!!

  • I love when Mozart bows to Von Swietwen thinking he's the emperor.

  • Why is the Archbishop hitting on a woman at 1:32? LMAO

  • Even Arch Bishops gotta get their swerve on. ^^

  • because thats his job.

  • I read that for the groundtheme of the play "Amadeus" Peter Shaffer used an almost forgotten (both then and now) play named "Mozart and Salieri ", written by the famous Russian writer and playwright Nikolai V. Gogol.

  • My mistake: not Gogol, but Alexander Pushkin. And in Pushkin`s case I must say a poet instead of a writer.

Anyway, by this Pushkin conveyed his own despair from the surrounding mediocrity and the authorities` benevolence towards the medocrities and oppression of the talent.

Obviously later Shaffer ( and then Forman by the film ) extracted this fiction story out of its specifically Pushkin`s impression and that created the discussion why the movie depicts a non-existing duel between M and S.

  • what's the name of songs in the beginning of video?

  • One of my favorite pieces,

    Serenade No. 10 for Woodwinds.

  • "That giggling, dirty-minded creature I'd just seen, crawling on the floor!"

I always did love the emphasis he puts on the crawling on the floor part, as if that were the worst thing Mozart did.

  • the emperor is so funny in this film!!

  • Well...there it is.

  • "Hm hmm..." as he always says :P

  • italian is the proper language for opera!

says the guy with the english accent.

  • hehehehehehehe, you made giggle :P

  • 3:00 ~ 4:00 what's that piece called?

  • The Serenade No. 10 for winds in B flat major, K. 361/370a

    : )

  • Yeah already played it to death xD thanks anyways =)

  • I love his laugh it's so funny

  • 7:31-7:39

"They are all so beautiful.....why don't I have three heads? Hahahaha....XD

  • I play about as good as "his majesty". Does anyone know what piece it is he´s playing, and if it really is a work of Salieri? I would love to learn how to play it.

  • Opening of this Part 3 is one of my favorite scenes of this movie... Running the long hallway. And Salieri describes Mozart's music... fantastic.

I really wish real Mozart was like this Tom Hulce.

  • The king has got a great voice xDD.

  • they should have done a english version :P

  • I love Tom Hulce ♥

  • I do feel bad for Salieri! He spend such a long time writing that funny melody...and then...BOOM...Mozart comes in, listents to it once and makes a much better version of it!

  • Anyone know asite by which i can see and download the whole movie and i would be so thankful :)

  • what on earth is a rusty squeeze box?

  • An accordion that is rusty.

  • der kann ja ganed spielen der könig ;D

  • this is a great movie (=

  • Did they, in real life, in the emporors cort speak in italian or german? Just curious 'cause this movie is in english...

  • they spoke whatever language was the national language for the country/kingdom/empire

the movie's in english because it was done with english speaking actors ... just like gladiator was done in english and not in latin

if it wanted to stay true to history, they would have spoken in german

  • Mozart's laugh makes me laugh

  • GERMAN composer??????

are u kidding me!!!! mozart was austrian

  • He was referring to Mozart as someone who composed in the German language, not Mozart's actual nationality. It's like calling an American professor who teaches English an "English Professor."

  • mmmm ok! this may pass :D

  • well mozart was born in germany, but he hated it and lived in austria for most of his life.

  • No, he was born in Salzburg, Austria.

  • Comment removed

  • Leopold, his father, was born in Germany, and moved to Austria for the reasons you gave.

  • @SundaraKapasalathi: Nay! During his and his fathers lifetime there was no Germany and no Austria but the Holy Roman Empire of German Nation which lasted until 1806 (Napoleon forced its dissolution), so in their entire lifetime both knew nothing but the old German Realm. The separation of the two states was later forced by foreign powers and naturally there is now real difference; except that the Germans have a guilt complex about Hitler while the Austrians style themselves as his first victims.

  • the emporer sucks!!! hahah

  • what is the name of salieri's song?
