  • what a great song.....such great memmories

  • Fantastic video, this is about the most English video you could find anywhere on YouTube!

Speculation at the time was that this was Eric Clapton and Jasper Carrott.. I can see why people thought it might be EC singing, but only someone who has never been to the Midlands could possibly think that was Brummie Jasper doing the spoken bits. Wolver-'ampton tharris!

  • class tune m8 any 1 got a time machine haha

  • @OCCO1970 if you find one, can I join you?

  • Yes thanks his Name was Lenny Laing of Aberdeen

  • This song always reminds me of my dad who was a taxi driver for 40 years before losing him 5 years ago.l RIP.xx

  • lash 1 it minds me of being the lad lol

  • I've been in a similar predicament myself with a girl I never wanted to see again. Not quite so easy to get out of it as this though. I still had to go. Bad shit. Boy, am I glad that's over. No wonder I gave up taxi-ing! And it wasn't even in Derby...

    Good song.

  • @gevans28

    It's a great song Isn;t it?

I can sympathise with your predicament;Only in my case,She insisted that I do the pick up.

However,We just get on with it,Funny though that you don;t get fares who owe you money asking for you especially...!

  • Amazing video - memories of my home city which I left in 2001, to live in Matlock. Very well done! 5*

    Tony :-)

  • am surprised some c - rapper hasn't hijacked it yet .They've ruined all the other decent stuff and all my memories of my misspent youth.

  • The guy doing a Brummie accent is my uncle Paul and he's only putting it on....he's from London. I remember another version where the controller had an American accent.. I'll ask him and let you know.

  • I loved this song so much I bought the single when it came out in 1978. They perfromed it 'live' on TOTP, which was brilliant. Brings back memories.

  • Driver 67 is Paul Phillips. The follow up single 'Headlights' didn't chart.

  • like the song remember this from the very late 70 s but the video is not from then, all the cars are way up to date!!!!!

  • I see it third time today. It´s very similar to the outer areas of German middle towns. The red houses and and... ja, and the wheather , could be in Northern Germany.....hahaha

and the song rules , really !!

  • This was a great one hit wonder from the late 70's. Shame this band faded from sight after this high charting hit eh?

  • I'd sack my lot if they sulked like that .

  • It's interesting how towns from diferent parts of the world are, Houses are pretty antique style, I like that.

    Very cool tour xD.

    5 stars!

  • Part 2:

Is this the town where you are living ?

Looks like the towns in Northern Germany, Holstein etc... where I live here.

  • hello mr dee, We have now given this great song back to 20,000 + people between us.

out of all the videos i have uploaded this song seems to touch a special place in peoples hearts - it's one of those rare songs that can almost make you touch & smell & feel the 70s again- makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck...

  • I drive cab for a living, and I would never do a pick up for my ex g/f. I like this song.

  • Great song one i have not heard for a while.. seems like it was taken on a usual wet day in England...lol.

  • I'm glad you done this video.Been trying to think of the name of this song for ages and just happened to find it through another song i was listening to.I really like it.

  • who sung this song?

  • Wikipedia:

Car 67" is a pop song by Driver 67 that appeared in the UK Single Chart in December 1978. It was written by Paul Phillips and Pete Zorn and was sung by Paul Phillips. The song is a ballad revolving around a Taxicab driver who had split up with his girlfriend the previous day and how he was balking at doing a particular pick-up (who unbeknownst to the controller was the woman in question).

  • The song is arranged as the taxi driver singing the lyrics, interspersed with the voice of the taxi controller. The taxi controller had a distinctive West Midlands accent.

  • Princess margrets, favourite record, not alot of people know that.

well done mate!!!!! TAXI FOR DEE

  • thanx 4 puttin a smile on mi face,

aint heard that song 4 ages!

  • wots rung 67

  • what a song,and im a taxi driver,loved it when i was in scool,and still now,thanks mate

  • glad youi like it ...

  • I remember this when I was little .I loved it but couldn't stand the blokes accent .Then I ended up falling for a bloke with same accent and now I love it.

  • thanks for the comment

  • Yes, I remember this from schooldays and seeing the two men singing it on Top of the Pops. An unusual performance as it's basically a talking song with a slow beat that's not easy for the audience to dance to.

  • glad you like the post this is the second most viewed video of mine seems one or two have posted it since ...

  • Cracking post, Great song -novelty or otherwise. I remember a local DJ said it was a favourite of the Queen Mums too.

Gotta have a time for the pick up 67... They dont write them like that anymore.

  • What a legend you are mate for posting this. One of those obscure tunes with a story to tell and never to be forgotten. Cracking!

  • Great song from my youth.. bought back good memories. Not too sure about the vid though.. Makes Derby look like a shite hole :-)

  • he went for the factual documentary style

  • mega track . i love it . and i cant believe im now a cab driver myself lol

  • these types of tracks will never go down in the halls of fame but this is whats missing in today's charts, one off novelties that really made music diverse, interesting and accessable to all ages, rather than 12-18 year olds.

  • I think they conjure up memories of what you were doing when the track was in the charts. It does that for me, anyway - great track!

  • SO good to hear this again - makes me smile everytime I hear it. Thanks v much for posting.

  • grew up on this song big memories

  • excellent song, how much does the controller sound like timothy spall..i wonder......

  • Just to echo the comments by hodgepig007, forgotten how good this track was, remember it ell but never appreciated how good it was at the time . . . . classic . . . . thanks for uploadin it

  • Hello mrdee, we can go to our graves proud that we both gave this great song back to the world via youtube.

I read your comment re-chart position & thought "I'm sure it did better than that" so checked in the Guinness book of British hit singles & albums & it peaked at number 7 & first hit the chart on 23rd December 78 & was in the charts for 12 weeks (so it was a hit in 79).

  • I love the 70s' how good is this song?!

  • I recognise the drive through Derby, starting at the top of Sinfin Lane. Looks like a very rainy day when you made the video. I grew up in the city, but now in Matlock.

  • Oh-the memories, I was 13 when this came out and I used to play it over and over again having been dumped by my first girlfriend. Thanks Tracy!! great great tune.

  • I remember this well - wasn't it about 1979? I love the Brummie accent of the controller?

  • I love this song, still have it on 7"vinyl, thanks for posting it brought back some great memories of my school days

  • oohh man they were the BEST DAYS THE BEST ! nice video too

  • god this brings back memories

  • Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant. Been waiting ages for this classic on You Tube. You've made my day.

  • My dad bought this record........... Mike S.

  • Brilliant. Those were the days of the good old Cortinas and Capri's.

    Thanks for posting!

  • The last time I heard this was in.....1978/79, TOTP. Yep, he had a Mark 4 Cortina. Was it beige?

  • I am killing myself laughing... at school my friends used to make me sing this because I had perfect pitch. Thought it was a compliment at the time... bloody don't now.

    LOL!!

  • Brilliant novelty record - I've been looking for this for ages. I've only heard it once since it left the charts - late 1993 at a

1970's retro disco show called Brutus Gold.

  • wahey ,found it lol , just shows that theres nothing that doesnt get on youtube ,havent heard this for years

  • oh well, I can die happy now..the original clip is on the bbc website..well the last 20 odd seconds anyaway....one dude is sitting in the car talking into a cb, and another is wearing a funny hat talking into a mike

  • you stole my thunder was going to post this myself, i always thought that this was bob carolgees of spit the dog fame.

  • It would make my day if you could confirm whether you actually filmed the video in Birmingham!! ;-)

  • Have been looking for this for AGES - LOVE it. Can you do it car 2-3? Remember at the time the rumour was it was Eric Clapton!

  • remember on totp he had a cortina mk4

( i think it was a mk 4 ) on the stage with him lol , what a novelty record. No one makes em like they used to lol. Thanks for posting.

  • Car 67 was by Driver 67

  • who sang this? anyone know?

  • fab - I remember the TOTP, the controller sat ata table on the CB radio....cool. Got the 7" single somewhere.

  • THATS RIGHT!!! I remember the dude on the radio....if I saw the original video again I could die happy...God how sad is that lol
