I hate Nvidia. They sell their shit which is older at the same price, maybe more expensive than the new ATI series, which is newer and way better (at this time). What will it come of the 600 or 700 series, will it be the double of an ATI?
Ok my 580 benches better than the one they used. They should of used a gtx 580 classified ultra. Clocks speeds was more around what the AMD card is running. And Really this new card did not bench high enough to make me go ohhh aahh I have to have one. Just shows nvidia will win this battle with their new card.
Unfair test, the AMD 7970 is PCI Express 3.0, putting it on an EVGA X58 with PCI Express 2.0 degrades its performance, put the 7970 on the new ASUS X79 LGA 2011 RAMPAGE IV EXTREME with Intel Core i7 3960X SANDY BRIDGE-E CPU PCI Express 3.0 then it will blow away the GTX 580
Oh wait, the 7970 already blows away the GTX 580 even on degraded PCIe 2.0 slot, so imagine how fast it would be if it was in a PCe 3.0
Awesome. Music is really creepy but otherwise cool vid. The 7970 beat the 580 no doubt. The way things started out, the 580 isnt the generation AMD is competing against, but the card Nvidia brings out (probably 680). But still I remain an AMD fan, because they bring a lot of bang for a lot less buck. And its still more than enough for me
once the gtx 680 get released a year from now its gonna blow the door off this 7970 with enhanced 3d and physx, better AA and filtering rate...srry but AMD sux
I'm gonna continue holding out on upgrading for at least another year. Even with my 920 D0 and 2 5970s I get 34500 on high and 38500 on performance. The cpu side is a little weak at 25000, but the gpu scores are at 37000 for performance and 46000 for high. I've had most of this hardware for a couple years now and things haven't progressed to the point where I'm eager to drop a bunch more money. Most games I only even use one card for. We'll see what the next gen has to offer...
Now i got a question. Nvidia told everyone in far 2010, the next generation of GPUs will be 2x more powerful either an old ones. So 7970 sux, or nvidia lies to us?
Technically. since the nanometer of the 7970 is smaller than the 580, this is not a clash of the titans. They are two different generations and of course the newer will (should) win. The clash of the titans is if there is a 7990 and the Keplar cards that are supposedly coming in late 2012.
@Drebln893 not really. since nvidia is going to pop new product soon, and i thought ait had cuda and psychs :/ but 7970 is very good card :) very good indeed :D
Of course the 7970 is better... Comparing a generation old card to a brand new one... Like some have already said, wait until NVIDIA drops their cards, then we'll see who's still talking.
Lets wait till the new nVidia cards come out... They'll tear up the floor with this 7970 thingy. And before everybody starts calling me nvidia fanboy, I'm using one radeon in my laptop, and just ordered a desktop ati card today. The truth is that nVidia is slower in producing new cards, but when they release them, only the God has better GPU :DDD
@narut0man1000 DUDE there is no way on earth a 580 is the best, NO WAY, the 7970 eats the 580 up like you have no idea. Did you know that if you over clock a 7970 you get the same performance as the 590. You should never over clock the 590, two GPU's being so close ( + most have one fan) they over heat and most 590s drop dead.
So, whats the point in showing the last 2 tests? one is a CPU test and the other is a PhysX test..... shame ATI dont do PhysX though...big selling point for me, its why i turned Green...i could be persuaded back if they got tidy physX and 3D capabilities though, they look nicer than Nvidia cards in my case and are generally cheaper :) (GTX 570 sli atm)
Hey Trubritar are you going to overclock theses and run the test again, or maybe you can send a message over to Doc overclock and tell him to overclock them? his name is Doc overclock but he PM'ed me and say's most people won't overclock these cards :/ either he's joking me or a doesn't no what he's talking about. The 7970 needs to be overclocked.
The 7970 has a higher overall FPS than the 580, that much is true, and it does use less power - also impressive. Watch that FPS counter however, and you will notice when the 580 drops to sub 100fps - to double digits basically - the 7970 does as well, sometimes to exactly the same level as the 580! The 7970 is not a massive improvement in technology, and doesn't improve in the 580's poor areas much at all. It is a more refined card than the 580, nothing more. 100% waste of money IMO.
I liked the compsuntion, it doesn´t hit the wallet(pocket) ,less money for the electricity bill ; that was impressive ! and of course the good frame rates... It has more power than gtx 580 wow wow.... more benchmarks please !!! i´ll be waiting for the GTX 680 and its preview comparisson between 7970 VS GTX 680....
@arrobasolar most retarded statement ever....ofc the 680 will be better than the 7970. The 7970 is the first in the 7xxx range and the 580 is the last single GPU card in the 5xx range from nvidea. End of one generation of cards vs first of the next (and ofc rival companies) but to mention a 680 is just pointless, stupid, and about 2yrs away pal :/
Well you can say what you want but the 7970 is the best performing single GPU at this moment and nvidias next gen cards are (obviously) going to be better they just have to because they would lose this "round" of the competition between them and AMD if not
Hope we enjoy the video my ass. how in gods name are we suppose to enjoy the video when you choose the worse music known to mankind to be played in this video. Also why in the world is the word "porn" even in the tags?
Are you that desperate Trubritar? and for future videos if your going to make an appearance don't put out that cheap ass smirk.
This days price/performance (FPS) or memmory/per price (RAM) is a really winner in gaming cpmmunity.
regardless if it is old or new hardware.
if Nvidia will have 3gb gtx 680 or 780 in their next card and the price will cost $600 or more and the fps will only have 10 to 15 more frames for 600 bucks... good luck to your pocket..
just wait for the GTX 680 or 780. than we can see who's the clear winner. the GTX 580 was released in late 2010. and so far the HD7970 is only been like, 15% faster.
@simonhoubracken But the 580 was released late 2010, doesn't seem like it's a fair test. I'd prefer see the 7970 benchmark against the cards NVIDIA next bring out (680?)
@acer0169 You're right, but he wants to test the best cards of both AMD and nVidia. I guess that's why he picked the 7970 and the 580, because the 680 is not released yet
you can see how bad ATI drivers are, because at some point int the video the gtx580 was going faster than the ATI. (it could be the difference in architectures though)
I don't care about what others say.. but this again proves that the AMD cards are way less power hungry than the nvidia counterparts. I'd rather have a energy saving and powerful card instead of a card which is just powerful.
@Dataacid But your first concern should be performance, these cards are proving to easily overclock to 1.15-1.26GHz core, and 6.9GHz on the memory, at those clock, they tack on another 35-40% of performance. That means faster than any card on the market, period for $500 yet still single GPU.
@bob333336 yes i am waiting for the newer Nvidia cards. they never failed me, and proved to be better in performance most of the times. I choose nvidia because i can SLI without having the trouble that might happen with Crossfire. even if they will cost 100 or 200$ more price will not be a concern.
@Dataacid I've had both SLI and CF rigs, they both have their own set of issues. IMO no real difference between the two companies to me, I just get whatever is the best. But yea, I'm waiting too. Plus if nVidia releases similar performance cards to AMD's, but at a lower price, that would force AMD to drop their prices too you know? Then I'll decide what I want. I mean price matters if you can get the same thing for cheaper why not, but performance ofcource is the most important factor to me.
Hi Tributar, this video is a good video but does not make much sense... test 28nm vs 40 Old Nm opponent and don't benchmark whit the last DX11+Tessellation comparison software. Vantage is soo OLD too bench this VGA cards.. could have a bit of sense to see these bench of Metro2033, crysis 2, Battlefield 3 .. and other games where physx is not seen by AMD. i need to see test whit the new 28Nvidia architecture.. when it comes :-).
@KSDG84 The two 7970's will outperform the 2 580's while using a lot less power, but it comes down to pricing really. Also do u prefer AMD or NVIDIA when it comes to drivers?
I'm glad that power consumption is lower even with increased performance, but I will be waiting for gtx 670 or gtx 680 since usually ati releases the fastest card until nvidia releases the competition that destroys it
can i make a request, its alot different review but can you do a review on what video cards work on premiere's mercury engine, for lowest to highest, alternatives etc, they say that mercury engine only uses 100 cuda cores, don't know if getting 240cuda cores will benefit more on mercury engines. thanks i like your reviews!
@KSDG84 If you just want more framerate and DirectX 11 then go for the 7970, but if you want framerate, DirectX 11, PhysX and 3D Vision then go for the 580.
This is a honest question Please respond: Why are you benchmarking with Vantage? Isnt it a little out of date now? also Isnt the 7970 much more then the 580? Im confused on what this test proves/ How the results effect the two cards, Id like your input on why you ran this test thanx
Also, you can see a small amount of micro stuttering at around 70fps. So please, shut up with the "omg there's no difference from 60 fps - 100fps." Visually, yes there is. Please see an eye doctor.
@jeffwads yes. But this tells a story in a way. In way of other games may require more power. This gives you an idea of the GPU power. Its a benchmark....
future mark vantage is so stupid when it comes to non-technological stuff. i still remember mother nature test from 3dmarks 2003. now that was not just technological showcase but also pleasure for eyes (and mind)
Of course nVidia will come back to the top, it always happens. AMD and nVidia never come out with cards at the same time because they always wait to come out with something even stronger. There basically playing leap frog, at times nVidia is on top, then AMD.
@flowingmarc amd's and nvidia's marketing strategy in a nutshell lol. Too bad though, i wanted to wait getting my new cards untill nvidia came up with theirs. unfortunately my 2 4890's died within 6 months of each other and amd just happened to have released their 7970 not even 2 days earlier. So here i am with 2 7970's in crossfire.
@Drebln893 not really for a next gen card, AMD always brags when they release something new trying to outperform the other companies, but in the end, they end up failing *coughcougbulldozercoughcough*
@Drebln893 Where do ya'll get the energy to care so much about which brand you buy, all that matters is performance. Either one of the companies holds the performance crown for a few months until the other brings out a new card. I've bought Nvidia mostly, not because I think it's the end all be all of a company or w/e but because they've held the crown when I was looking to buy and they usually have better drivers than amd/ati. Just my two cents.
@Drebln893 You say's a 28nm AMD vs an OLD 40Nm Nvidia.. is a totally false comparison, I resent when it comes out the nvidia 28Nm. Why not talk about things equate exact architecture ... wasted words man.
@Drebln893 Wait why would they be mad? This is the same comparison as the 480 vs 5870. Pointless because one is a newer model anyway. Both companies just go back and forth with performance figures all the time. Except nvida has had the higher numbers overall with 480, and 580 in similar released cards.
@Dataacid But nVidia did the same thing in the past as well. The only reason for a company to release early is to make the whole market spend their money, then make the opposite company rush their product. This is why the 4XX series actually came with tons of problems at first. This was eventaully fixed with the 5XX series which is the same exact structured card with fixes.
A lot of nvidia fans still wont admit that right now, nvidia isnt holding the fastest gpu. come on, isnt this normal? from 3 years ago nvidia only holds the title every once in a while but over all its still ati. I aint a fan of either the two but i know how to admit facts.
I remember buying the GTX280 right when it came out, BLEW away any offerings ATI had for quite a while, plus the form factor was new. Now it's always so neck and neck and ATI is always cheaper/less power hungry, it's hard to get excited about these cards.
I'm wondering if I shouldn't just by another 560ti, SLI, and be done with it.
@rushnerd yea then 5970 right? i used to have a gtx 280 too but in real world performance its almost the same as the 5870. those where the days. to be honest, anyone who still has those cards dont even need to upgrade until now as long as they stick to 1080p resolution. hehe.
I hate Nvidia. They sell their shit which is older at the same price, maybe more expensive than the new ATI series, which is newer and way better (at this time). What will it come of the 600 or 700 series, will it be the double of an ATI?

@KSDG84 Well I am running 2 570 in sli with game settings maxed out with a min framerate of 57. You should get a min of at least 65.

jbx907 1 month ago
can i make a request, its alot different review but can you do a review on what video cards work on premiere's mercury engine, for lowest to highest, alternatives etc, they say that mercury engine only uses 100 cuda cores, don't know if getting 240cuda cores will benefit more on mercury engines. thanks i like your reviews!
jbx907 1 month ago
@KSDG84 It's more down to preference. I use PhysX as I get more into the games that support it. I am running a 23inch 1920 x 1080 monitor.
LLOYD19851012 1 month ago
@KSDG84 If you just want more framerate and DirectX 11 then go for the 7970, but if you want framerate, DirectX 11, PhysX and 3D Vision then go for the 580.
LLOYD19851012 1 month ago
This is a honest question Please respond: Why are you benchmarking with Vantage? Isnt it a little out of date now? also Isnt the 7970 much more then the 580? Im confused on what this test proves/ How the results effect the two cards, Id like your input on why you ran this test thanx

Of course nVidia will come back to the top, it always happens. AMD and nVidia never come out with cards at the same time because they always wait to come out with something even stronger. There basically playing leap frog, at times nVidia is on top, then AMD.
flowingmarc 1 month ago
@flowingmarc amd's and nvidia's marketing strategy in a nutshell lol. Too bad though, i wanted to wait getting my new cards untill nvidia came up with theirs. unfortunately my 2 4890's died within 6 months of each other and amd just happened to have released their 7970 not even 2 days earlier. So here i am with 2 7970's in crossfire.

@Drebln893 not really for a next gen card, AMD always brags when they release something new trying to outperform the other companies, but in the end, they end up failing *coughcougbulldozercoughcough*
ToToo088 1 month ago
@Drebln893 lmao
thearmoredfatboy 1 month ago
@Drebln893 Where do ya'll get the energy to care so much about which brand you buy, all that matters is performance. Either one of the companies holds the performance crown for a few months until the other brings out a new card. I've bought Nvidia mostly, not because I think it's the end all be all of a company or w/e but because they've held the crown when I was looking to buy and they usually have better drivers than amd/ati. Just my two cents.

Not really - The image actually looked more crisp, and more vivid on the GTX580, and its about time
"A-T-die" kicked it up a notch... :) Props on that!
Im also wondering how this card stands up to the GTX590?
PS. The GTX 580 is cooler in temp, I wonder which card is more prone to failing due to heat?... hence the name "A-T-die"....
PPS. UMAD? :D
xxfiberopticxx 1 month ago
@Drebln893 You say's a 28nm AMD vs an OLD 40Nm Nvidia.. is a totally false comparison, I resent when it comes out the nvidia 28Nm. Why not talk about things equate exact architecture ... wasted words man.
ghostfoxxx 1 month ago
@Drebln893 That is exactly what is expected with the next generation of video cards. I'm sure whent he 700 series come out the same will happen.
MrAMColes 1 month ago
@Drebln893 ...maybe its because of the time between NV 500 and ATI 7000 ????
you can have a HUGE boost in this time
kojote333 1 month ago
@Drebln893 Of course it's going to be better; it's a new-gen card. GTX5xx is the competitor of HD6xxx.
HD7xxx will have to go up against GTX6xx.

@AeonMW2 U are mad the gtx 580 is just 14 months old not 2 year..
dutchnoob21 1 month ago
@Drebln893 Wait why would they be mad? This is the same comparison as the 480 vs 5870. Pointless because one is a newer model anyway. Both companies just go back and forth with performance figures all the time. Except nvida has had the higher numbers overall with 480, and 580 in similar released cards.
sniperlif3 1 month ago
@sniperlif3 the only way for ATI to get some sales is to release an earlier product. NVidia is not for the mainstream ppl.
Dataacid 1 month ago
@Dataacid But nVidia did the same thing in the past as well. The only reason for a company to release early is to make the whole market spend their money, then make the opposite company rush their product. This is why the 4XX series actually came with tons of problems at first. This was eventaully fixed with the 5XX series which is the same exact structured card with fixes.

A lot of nvidia fans still wont admit that right now, nvidia isnt holding the fastest gpu. come on, isnt this normal? from 3 years ago nvidia only holds the title every once in a while but over all its still ati. I aint a fan of either the two but i know how to admit facts.
sacraty8 1 month ago 4
@sacraty8
I remember buying the GTX280 right when it came out, BLEW away any offerings ATI had for quite a while, plus the form factor was new. Now it's always so neck and neck and ATI is always cheaper/less power hungry, it's hard to get excited about these cards.
I'm wondering if I shouldn't just by another 560ti, SLI, and be done with it.
rushnerd 1 month ago
@rushnerd yea then 5970 right? i used to have a gtx 280 too but in real world performance its almost the same as the 5870. those where the days. to be honest, anyone who still has those cards dont even need to upgrade until now as long as they stick to 1080p resolution. hehe.

@sacraty8 nvidia still does have the fastest GPU with the GTX 590 if im not mistaken!
