Umlauts are the dots on the O in Blue Oyster Cult. Or in the first O of Moterhead. Or the N in Spinal Tap (it's usage there, though, is ludicrous). All it does is it changes the word so that you add an "e" after a vowel. So Blue Oyster Cult is actually pronounced Blue Oe(oo)ster Cult. But it's more like a joke, or to make logos look cool than to be taken seriously. Here "Fuer" Elise is German for "For Elise", without the umlauts, it's nonsense. So it was also meant as a joke. Phew...
