  • Great Match!!! Karch was the only guy with real Olympic experience so it's no surprise he came out on top. Anyone that said Sinjin was a "has been" should be smacked, he played out of his mind considering all the injuries he went through. And yes for the record - Marlowe and Sundy did NOT call this game live, NBC had them call it later when it was rebroadcast.

  • @LLEE93 I have to agree, the net rule is the stupiest rule change ever. No other sport that plays with a net, when the serve hit the net is considered a good serve.

  • "Has been?" I would've loved to been that kind of "has been!" What a great game and testament to the glory of American, old school volleyball...Thanks so much to Lance and Kent for sharing this...

  • Awesome game. Thanks for posting it. But why spoil it by going on about the rule changes? The let rule didn't exist then, it does now. Get over it.

  • @alhinch I went on for a very good reason. That shows just how absurd & moronic the let rule is. That match would have been cheapened & forgot about had they won on a let serve. That's not what volleyball should be about! You're rewarding a team for making a mistake & punishing a team that did nothing wrong. Is that really fair? No! That is a rule that I won't get over. It's laughable that it has become the standard & accepted.

  • I love the line at 8:44 "Her husband has possession of the ball, so it's not going to end here." Sideout scoring...real volleyball. I miss those days. Thanks so much for posting these videos.

  • The hit by Sinjin at just after 4:20 is sick; as well as the dig at just after 4:45. He is, obviously, very healthy here and jumping higher than I was used to seeing him in his late 80s and early 90s matches. Back then, he always seemed a little off-balance because of his leg problems. GREAT MATCH. Thanks for posting. The version I have is the AVP Classics version with the other, annoying commentators; one of which is very biased in favor of Sinjin. Love Marlowe and Sunderland.

  • i love smith vs kiraly matches

  • After YEARS of watching Karch play, I can tell how excited and mad he is during this game. The last several points, he is really pumped.

  • Love at 7:04 "Sinjin you're a has-been!"

  • @broth6 While neither Karch nor Sinjin were ever my favorite players (nothing personal, I just liked some other players' styles better), Sinjin was no "has-been" in this match. He did the best he could with an inexperienced doubles player. Henkel played VERY well despite his inexperience, but he was not mentally prepared for the match to go on that long and be that tight; especially, since it seem SO easy at the beginning. Sinjin played awesome, but Henkel choked. 1 tight set & 1 key ace.

  • @jediprettyboy The problem with Karch & Kent was that you needed to put them away early and fast. Just watch some of the matches where Stoklos & Johnson were able to get a big and early lead, keep it, and end it quickly. It wasn't smart to let a match with Karch & Kent drag on and on because the vast majority of the time they would eventually out-control you to a frustrating level. The only person I felt had the mental toughness in close matches was Dodd. If only he had Whitmarsh earlier.
