  • How many Americans does it take to tell that LCS is design by an Aussie via the company Austal.

  • @GayBoyRunning Austral USA to be precise,The facility is based in Mobile, Alabama.

  • Wisconsin- not just cheese anymore!

  • I live in the town that makes these, and my mother is one of the top welders working at the shipyard

  • When was this ship in Lake Michigan?...The Big Lake is only a five minute walk from my house. I would have loved to have seen it. More of these ships should visit the Grand Haven, Muskegon area.

  • @spaggs64 the freedom class ships are built in marinette marin wi.they do there builder trils in green bay and lake machigain

  • Drive it like you stole it.

  • Fine design of a ship. Does this mean those ships designed after this will be called Independence class vessels? Thanks for the vid!

For those who are worried about a 57mm cannon, remember it fires at 200rpm. Will be a good pirate catcher or whatever else it is assigned to. Go Navy!

  • @markej4801 yup freedom class. and indapeindc class there building 10 of each 20 in all

  • I dont care what operation they have this ship planned for, you are going to need a hell of lot more then a 57 mm cannon.

  • Rebirth of the corvette

  • All I know is they BETTER not replace ole' CVS-65 with one of these... Enterprise should forever remain a Carrier of unmatched power, speed, and capability!

  • I vote the independence

  • Oh God sooo many electronic. The Maint Crew on that ship must hate their life....

  • It made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs.

  • @dtstrain Parsecs are a unit of distance, not time....

Mr Lucas, will you please let Indiana out of the Gimp cage and take Mr Spielberg's wiener out of your mouth?

  • @Heathh49008

    ...I think thats the point.

    starwars.wikia(dot)com/wiki/Kessel_run

  • @Heathh49008 No shit.

  • Looks like a joke.

  • Clittoral cause it can take a lickin and keep goin

  • Clittoral combat ship? Why?

  • Sponsored by us Litoral Wear Baby!!!

  • navy sea power is a complex thing not well understood by the general public...the public is constantly brainwashed to think in only ww-2 terms by the history channel!...this warship can go into the baltic sea and black sea to protect nato flank.../ milwaukee

  • It's ugly as hell, but I guess that it is capable ship too.

  • 1:03 do they make some special rubber cover for that cannon, or is it just a regular condom?

also... 'the brown water' 1:35 it sounds like the ship is supposed to be cruising in some literally shitty ocean areas

  • Youre welcome Bombardier.

  • This ships are born from an 1989 Italian project of the "DESTRIERO" the faster ship ever built, the last winner of the Blue Rippon.

On Tuesday 30 DECEMBER , the U.S. Congress approved a contract for 20 Littoral Combat Ships, 10 of which will be built at Marinette Marine's shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin, across the river from Menominee, Michigan. Value 4.39 billions dollars

The Italian Fincantieri Marine Group purchased both Bay Ship and Marinette Marine

  • saudi arabia is getting a couble of this ship

  • I want to give this boat a rusty trombone

  • A monohull? I think a trimaran would be more fitting. Especially as it's likely to face things like RPGs flying from shorelines...

  • I want to rename this amazing vessel ' The Stoke Boat '

At once i was hit by the enormous wake of this ship, its stern wave is possibly the biggest useable wake of a boat ever. At full throttle this thing is putting out 6 to 8 feet of wave! (Maybe more) and unlike an aircraft carrier or large ship this jet boat/ship with no prop could be used close to shore to produce killer waves. Imagine, at least 4 foot high + perfect endless tubing wave.

LCS = Large Continuous Surf ! Say No to Combat.

  • the wake of this boat should be surfed.... Let me surf it!

  • @SquidgyMcGee and no props to get caught up in TOTALLT SAFE!

  • Wonder how this would manage vs a stealth Skjold class watch?v=zT1xbIlRXCc&feature=search. The worlds fastest frigate/corvette.

  • hell yea this is the tits!

its like a giant badass american jetski!

  • .

    a beauty!

    .

  • The Austal version is MUCH better

  • @djonpow And you know how? I built both of the lockheed ones, and the Navy guys are telling us how crappy the Austal boat really is. Extreme corrosion, and cracking of the hull, and waterborne mission doors that won't close. yup, that's MUCH better...

  • The nations first Littoral Combat Ship, USS Freedom (LCS 1), achieved its first drug seizure on February 22 in the Western Caribbean when it disrupted a high-speed go-fast vessel and recovered more than a quarter of a ton of cocaine. nice going

  • @TFOKillSwitch It's an awesome ship. I can't say that I find it heart warming that a multi-billion dollar machine is reduced to doing drug interdiction, but then again... the alternative (war) would be worse. Just glad we have these machines protecting our country.

  • @aceinthehole9999 just hope they build th rest of them like her. well they were on patroll when they came upon the speed boat. they didnt respond to hils so the captin ordeered the ship to spreint speed.and they seen her comming and droped the drugs over bord . freedom did not chase after her . just picked up the drugs and gave the boats cords to the clumbian navy . acording to the papper

  • Another thing I like more about this LCS then the other one is its lower profile. For operating in shallow water you want less sail to catch wind and influence the positioning of the ship. There is cause for concern with the other ship as its very tall and has a huge sail, it will be hell to manage in high winds near shore.

This one looks like it will handle a cross wind much better and more predictably, with less overall influence from wind and weather.

  • At least its got a bow, just looked at that other one that just sailed and UGH! Its a tri hull witha narrow bow... seath in high seas as it will plow through instead of rise over swells that will then hit the superstructure and both slow the ship and make it less buoyant.

This one wins IMHO because it has more basic seaworthiness. They other may be good in chop but in rough seas I want a nice wide bow, to stay afloat and keep the blue water running under the vessel instead of over it.

  • Hmmm, 1,000,000 gallons per minute; just what we need in Ozz to fight bush fires. Now all we need is a sufficient water supply.

  • i looked up the specs, or what i could find of them, its (from what i can tell) a frigate built like a speed boat pretty much, this thing is nasty war makin killin machine, but expensive, the US really cant afford this but its awsome all the same

  • @BSG062 The US can't afford NOT to do this.

  • People need to understand what LITTORAL means, these ship of this class are useless in the open ocean, they are strickly for waters closer to shore. THe LCS 2 is a piece of shit and the Navy was about to scrub the plan until they figured it would be good to have a ship to hang around in coastal waters. THe lcs no mater what number follows will never replace our cruisers/destroyers etc.

  • lcs 1 has allredy seen 30ft sea and manged them no problem. as far as replacing CA and DD. the ship that will replace them is the DD1000 her rail guns she will have will beable to reach 200 miles in land acording to navy times.DD1000 is under cunstructiuon now

  • oh thats nice for the lcs 1 for I was talking about the lcs 2, damn

  • Nice vessel...but "revolutionary"? 'unprecedented" ? what about the Visby class from Sweden? no difference and the Visbies have been out for about 6 years or so?

  • Visbys aren't even in operational service. All they have at moment is torpedoes (not sure) and that 57mm cannon. Hangar was too small for AW109 so they removed it.

Not to mention they are over 50% more expensive than other new corvettes.

  • Typical answer! Moko...Americans have the first/fastest/ whatever! Visbies ARE actually in service, and have you got any documentation to prove your other assertions?.........................dont think so!

  • More to the point, Sea Ram's range in this particular situation . 6 miles.

    Shipwreck speed 3,456 mph.

    What is your reaction time?

What if you are cruising shallows and your 21 shot Rim 116 decides to take out the 40 old Katyusha's that are farted in your general direction...Then some smart asses decide to shoot a bakers dozen of chrysanthemums as you are reloading? Far fetched and downright stupid, certainly! Every engagement this ship sees will be point blank & up close.

  • At Mach 4.5.000000000000009 wow I totally underestimated the seawhammy. It still doesn't account for the fact that the Chinese have surfaced submarines within the CSG twice this past year. And all we could think to say was W.T.F... At point blank range you won't have time to arm a missile or say WTF as you pick yourself up from the bottom of the ocean floor. The Chinese have the technology, industrialization, and the ability to produce the "Shipwreck" like cornbread. Rim-116 =Pearl 1941

  • ss-n-19 fired in salvos one stays up top at altitude to designate targets then they switch places in a porpoise like manner (cute) all the while moving at Mach 4.5Thats about 737 times faster than this boat. I think the ship will be carbon credit enough if the U.S. doesn't get off it's ass and develop interceptor missiles that are faster than the Mach 2+average. Gotta love our cruise missiles - sub-mach abilities against the 3rd world. The ship might as well be slower save $ stealth spd=myth

  • what do you think the rim-116 rolling airfram missile laucher is . it intercepts.antiship missils and air to surifc missels. this is y this ship has no sea wiz

  • 52 mph = * kms ????????????????

  • O boo hoo. cry me a river you global warming nut case.

why don't you go buy some Al Gore Carbon credits and save the world

  • @VodkaAce ... really? I bet you couldn't even explain the basic principles behind the mountain of evidence.

  • The General Dynamic ship is the future. Hopefully they fill select that one.

  • a torpedo gotta have the legs at this things speed !

  • I found the Littoral tri-Maran on YouTube... it's the LCS2

  • You should see the Littoral Tri-Maran. I can't find it on YouTube but it's a fascinating ship.

  • yes she is if she can pass her builder triles . its back in the yard agin some sort of leak

  • LCS is designed for brown water operation that most navy lack that at the moment. However, armament doesnt make LCS any less capable but the role does required the right weapons package for task.

  • the ship seems to be unared

  • Unarmed?

Well it's not, but not as heavily armed as a destroyer or something. widely flexible ship, can do all types of missions for shallow waters: anti-submarine, anti-ship, minesweeping, can deploy 11 speedboats and 2 helicopters and its really fast. Also the most survivable ship in the world today.

  • anti-submarine anti-ship with what

BAE Systems Mk 110 57 mm gun

    RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missiles

45? or 60? NETFIRES PAM missiles in the ASuW module

    2 .50-cal guns

  • All of those weapons are good for anti-ship.

MK 110 57mm gun is multi-purpose, range of 9 miles, 6 different ammo modes. Good for anti-ship, anti-air, and shore-based threats. Most lethal and highest rate of fire system out there, it's the best.

The RAMs good against helicopter, aircraft, and surface threats. As well as incoming missiles.

PAM can take out vehicles, armor, bunkers and several other types of targets, as well at smaller boats.

    50cal anti-ship.

    Seahawk heli's for anti-sub.

  • lol aka pirets

  • actually there are 6 50 cal mounts. two on the aft, two on the top, and two on the pilothouse wings. But you are right that it is NOT unarmed. Technology allows much less to survive now. Nobody needs huge guns anymore. by the time you'd fire, watch the impact and refire, you'd be dead or damaged.

  • The Navy finally takes me on 14APR10, although unlikely, I'm praying for this ship :D

  • The LCS is FAST! No torpedo can catch it.

  • We do need it, but we need to make it less expensive.

  • it will be less expensive that is a guarantee. The Navy will only award the next 10 ships if it is cheaper. I worked on this ship, and am working on lcs3(same design) and I can tell you it's going MUCH faster this time. The problem is they engineered this thing on the fly, which is still cheaper than building one, then another with changes, and another with more changes, etc. It will be cheaper. lcs3 will be cheaper than lcs1 and if there are follow on ships they will also be at lower cost.

  • can i have the unclassified ship specs please

  • look them up

  • we dont need this shit

  • Shut your suck you ignorant monkey. You know nothing about what the Navy warriors need. This is the future numbnuts...LITTORAL warfare. Just look at what's happening around Somalia you clueless monkey!

  • Zumwalt is not needed. LCS is.

  • I have to agree with you about the Zumwalt.

  • Yeah! The LCS is the Future! It's a coastal and submarine killer! R.I.P. China subs....

  • i want to join i know about the navy...

  • YOU are Chinese....

  • nice ship but what kind off ssm and sam cary
