I personally would not recommend the stock of the AR/m4 be used as a impact devise. The buffer is a very thin tube of aluminum and probably the weakest part of this weapon. It will put your rifle out of the fight.

Notice in the live example, the elbow is OVER the buttstock and the stock is short, so the elbow would probably hit rather than the weapon, whereas in the CGI example, the elbow is behind it, which would be and unnatural way to hold a rifle. The technique is valid, but both examples are poor.

Haha no thanks. it's a cool serie, two American guys travel to different countries to train different martial arts, e.g. they go to Thailand to train Muay thai, and France to train Savate. And they learn a bit about the culture and the history of the specific martial art. So that would explain why it's on History Channel lol.

As for the name: it's called the butt of the rifle; you strike with the butt of the rifle, therefore it's called a buttstroke. Duh. Nothing new. The name's not exclusive to Krav Maga.

@jparkfosho USMC uses this move in MCMAP. It is taught as a last defense in case of weapon failure or running out of ammo. Also, in situations where lethal force is not authorized (more often than you might think) you won't have a mag in, so if you have to react fast you may have to use this.

@jparkfosho if the person happens to get that close to you, say in indoor situations or even from around the corner, your rifle won't do much good in close quarter situation. that's when you use the rifle to smack them a few feet away from u to gun em down or even just take em down with the rifle. It's mostly about adapting to situation really.
