  • BRAVI !!! ....I am amused about some of the comments to this video. Are these coffee shop critics aware that they are writing about one of the greatest Artists in the Opera world? can anybody name a better Don Jose in the last 25 Years? Kaufmann? come on...Araiza is a singer who can convincingly sing everything from the lightest roles to the most dramatic ones. This is a GREAT rendition!

  • Look at the passion in her eyes as she sings. The fire in their expressions - in their voices make this so beautiful

  • Que tecnica tiene Araiza!! Mis respetos!! no es la voz para este rol, pero todo el tiempo su voz está adelante, se le escucha cada nota, clarísima, se lleva a la Kasarova en algunos pasajes en volumen, fácilmente.

  • For me Araiza misses the masculinity in this recital that Kasarova surprised us with! I've never been a Kasarova fan, not even after hearing her live at the Netherlands Opera once, but this recording has definitely changed that dramatically.

  • Kasrova has very beautiful voice and and proper temperament for this role.Good, good, good!

  • Wowowowowowo Kasarova sounds almost masculine!

    She's great omg...

  • Araiza is one of my favorite dramatic tenors of all times, though in this performance he cannot really please me.

  • @aidavdbrake I feel the same, this role is not suitable for him

  • @tena2 hi5! ;)

no, it sounds like he's trying to be something he's not. i miss a lot of bottom in his voice and body connection mostly, like he is thinking all the time: it's french, so i HAVE to sound light!

i definitely prefer hearing him sing wagner!! :D

  • where is that beautiful light tenor Francisco Araiza which we knew as a great Tamino, Belmonte, etc.......

  • I'm not enamoured with Araiza in this.. his tone is not beautiful at all.

  • well, I am an Arraiza fan and not a Kasarova fan. That been said, she is phenomenal in this clip. The involvement is amazing. Brava.

He, on the other hand, proves that his decision to sing all that heavy rep did not come without a consequence. His passaggio is flat and constricted. All his high notes are off pitch. Awful.

  • Parece ser que es victima de su propia tecnica, o que está enfermo, este rol no es para el, de todas maneras admiro a Araiza, y es un tenor que ha cantado muy bien, todo un maestro!

  • Passionate and beautifully sung: BRAVI!!!

There are not many tenors with that amount of beauty in sound like Araiza!

  • I love this recital to death. Wish I could find the full video somewhere. They're both great. And Kasarova's so beautiful... *_* And so immersed in her singing. Can't wait for her Carmen this summer.

  • She is beautiful, beyond beautiful; her body language alone in The Damnation of Faust is mesmerizing - and that's before you even get to the divine talent. She radiates everything wonderful about women.

  • "Poor little tenor?" I don´t know what you mean by that... This performance of both singers is great.Maestro Araiza´s great dramatic -also staying elegant and flexible- and vocal technique allow him to sing this difficult duett, and not to scream it like others do.One of the greatest tenors of history, and surely the best one for Rossini´s and Mozart´s repertoire! Listen and compare his videos with other "top tenors".They don´t come even close, not even against his "Faust" in Vienna.Viva Araiza!

  • Ooops. Accidentally removed LeTraveler's comment along with the duplicated ones. Sorry!!

Take it easy, tenochtitlan. I'm sure he was just referring to Araiza's size. He isn't exactly tall.

They're both wonderful singers. I hope Opernhaus Zurich has a tape of Werther with these two as the ill-fated pair.

  • I am sorry but no I was not referring to Araiza's height.

Two awesome singers no question about it.

  • Yes I am very glad to hear him sing it instead of some of the other tenors I have heard.

  • Yeah, there's a certain percentage of talent out there that appears to be forced on us. There's no doubt that these two stand above a lot of others today.
