now a days the survival horror games are more action than horror, is always the same, they are not scary anymore, i remember i used to play resident evil code veronica, and it was so scary, i used to say, what is that!! what was that noise!!! what is behind that door!! what is behind me!!! and that was scary, but now a days there's just action and shooting and killing there's not fear anymore and that's so sad, i hope this game give us back the experience to play a real survival horror game.

This series is going to hell... Silent Hill was at its peak during Silent Hill 2, but since Silent Hill 4, the series has been sorely lacking in what used to be its greatest strength; the atmosphere, and sense of being alone in a weird abandoned town. As for this latest entry... It dosen't look, feel or sound like psychological horror; it'll probably suck. Hope I'm wrong though, and it turns out to be as nerve - cracking as Silent Hill 2, but I doubt that's gonna happen.
@seyallica The part about its peak during the second one is true. The bad games make the series look bad. Like nowadays if Silent Hill is mentioned, people will just be like "Oh yeah, Silent Hill: Homecoming, that game sucks."

I've been seriously disappointed with the new silent hills and resident evils. RE turned into garbage in #5, but I enjoyed SH homecoming. Not the best but better then the room! Konami should really look at SH 1 before they go after a new one and put a lot of thought into characters and gameplay.

i don't like the way the trailer presents the game, it looks like some kind of resident evil, or ghost hunter game, idk it just looks dumb, i hope they realize that silent hill fans don't want it this way
silent hill is easy to make. 1) There is so much fog in the game, that they can easly focus on graphic because what's behind fog is unvisible. Look at Alan Wake, that's the game with good graphic. No need fog to reduce processor and graphic useage during gameplay :P
I'm willing to give Licht the benefit of the doubt and assume he can pull off a great soundtrack for this game... BUT, Silent Hill without Akira Yamaoka's music would be kinda like making new Star Wars movies without John Williams' famous score.
I think Licht is a little bit sadder and so much slowly than Yamaoka, its not bad but the shadow of Yamaoka and his influence on the universe of Silent Hill is veeeery long. It could be a nice game, but it's almost imposible to recover the spirit and the sensations that caused on me the original Silent Hill Trilogy. By the way, work hard Konami and prove I'm wrong :)

At 2:45, does anyone else notice that there is NO reflection of the little girl in red, and that instead, you see a guy running? It could be the protagonist himself or that neighbor dude in the sweater, can't tell. But that AIN'T no little girl running.
Also, the intro to the song is HEAVILY inspired by the X-Files. at least we know there is a higher chance for a UFO Ending. :-p

@4everSolidSnake If it makes you feel any better, Shinji Mikami (the creator of Resident Evil) is also working on the horror game along with Suda51 so it's probably gonna be fun AND completely weird (and will probably feature assassins)
anyway, i'm still going to get this game, I love silent hill....but....Akira Yamaoka won't be doing the music composing for this game :'( I hope Mary Elizabeth at least lends her voice for the soundtrack...her beautiful, hypnotizing voice <3

i really hope that this will have the same camera angles as sh2 rather than shattered memories, the angles were fine but i would just love it if they kept it traditional! unlike what they did with Resident evil 5, not a good horror but a decent action shooter, shouldnt have even been callled resident evil in the first place :p
Despite everyone's comments about it, I still like this one and every other one in the series. It's a shame that Yamaoka isn't there, but that won't stop my interest. Too bad I don't have a 360 or PS3...
@LinkinParkHotspur Well, when you have parents who don't want to buy something expensive like a 360/PS3 and get a Wii(Which I do like), and tell you that 360 and PS3 are nothing but violence(They are kind of), then there's my life in a nutshell. Once they make a universal game system or have just 1 left, then I'll be happy.
I personally like the combat systems for the original silent hills as well as origins because if something jumped out and scared the hell out you, you could cap its ass. However, my opinion may change since i haven't played Shattered Memories yet.
@bigred1524 what's bad about shattered memories, is its kind of a "run away" kinda game. you can't fight. That's the only reason it didn't get a 10/10 for me. haha.
@AlluMan96 They cound Origins as 1, 1 as 2, 2 as 3, 3 as 4, 4 as 5, Homecoming as 6, Shattered Memories as 7, and this one as 8. I doubt this will be the actual game title, because it just doesn't make sense. Shattered Memories shouldn't be counted as part of the main series, and Origins should be number zero.

hopefully this one will fix up the series, I was doubtful a little at the cops - like this game would be running away from cops GTA basicly, but then when he got to the town after, it looked amazing, the otherworld seems good to, in its own way.

what a dissapointed trailer. It's gonna be another failed Silent Hill series since the developer is not konami, but european / american developer just like origins, homecoming and shattered memories. They cannot built the atmosphere that silent hill has in silent hill 1, 2, and 3.
Time will only tell if this game will live up to some of its predecessors. The last SH game was barely playable -- I think it was the weakest in the series. It all depends on whether the scriptwriters and co. will try to restore the series to its former glory by taking the time to actually play the first three games and discover what made them exceptional, or continue trying to do things their way. Losing Yamaoka is a major drawback as well. His music has been the series' constant strong point.
This seems a lot more Silent Hill game than the Homecoming ever was. For now the only thing i'm sad about is that Akira Yamaoka isn't making the music and that is a major flaw. But we'll see... it looks better than I expected anyway.
Im so glad this series is coming back. Love the real time otherworld transformations, and the supporting cast of any silent hill is just always so weird it's amazing. I hope old Mr. Pyramid head makes a return!
After 7 games (minus the room) I'm kinda growing tired of the fog. I wish they would permanently change it to rain. But I still love the Otherworld so much.
1) it all begins when a man had a car accident nearby silent hill, and lost traces of his little daughter (that he was carrying to silent hill for a vacation). So he find out the the city looks like abandoned and full of creepy monsters. In the end, he finds out that everything was 'cause of an ancient ritual casted on a girl named alessa (burned alive in order to try to summon a "god"). Alessa survived, but heavily injured... she started to hate everyone
2) and from that hate, the "otherworld" was created. Infact, all the monsters in the town were icons of alessa's fears. The daughter (cheryl) of the man (Herry) was instead the "good part" of alessa's soul (while the evil part generated silent hill).
Lately, it appears that the evil in silent hill survived after alessa's "death" (reincarnation with ceryl)... and now, the city morphs according to the "character" biggest fears. It is fear that create the otherworld... and the city.
3) That is why in the first silent hill episodes, the otherworld was really created upon main character's fears: in the 1st silent hill, everything was simply rusty and burned (the fear of alessa : the fire); in the 2nd, the otherworld was full of dust and lonelyness (according to the main character's fear for the future); in the 3rd, everything were made of flash and blood (the fear of eather, the main character, that was carrying on pregnancy of the "god" of the 1st silent hill)
Correct. Infact, i kinda like to see that the otherworld has a reason again.
But for now i don't like the way it is: i think that there is too much light.
And i still think that to scare, really scare, you have to HIDE things: not to show them from a panoramic view.
Fixed camera was one of the original "tricks" to scare most (i see the top of that dark stairs from here... but i can't see what's next... THAT is creepy) :)
1)I think that one of the reasons why silent hill is not so scary anymore, is 'cause it has lost all the mistery. In the 1st one, you were continuosly asking to yourself "what the heck is happening?", "where am i?", "why the world changed??". In fact, in the 2nd one they were able to "dodge" this problem by introducing a strong character-incentrated story, so that you were asking "woah... no alessa this time...so, what the hell is wrong?".
2) ... sequel to the 1st one, so that curiosity was able to avoid that "déjà vu feeling".
That's why starting from the 4th, it's gone downhill. Now everyone knows what the otherworld is. A thing explained is a thing that can't scary anymore (or at least not like before).
Ps. american teams killed the game lately... that was just 'cause they are too "hollywood style" and "commercial" now: but the very 1st silent hill idea was taken from an american film: jacob's ladder (watch it) ;)
All of you might hate me but I didn't like silent hill homecoming. I don't like the fact they gave it to another company and it didn't scare me like the others. So they better not make a bad silent hill. o the combat was great . And again this is my opinion. :)
Music is shit.. It is more Diablo like. They should make a new video game, totally different. I think that's why after SH2 none of them really succeded. The first and second part both had totally different stories, which was great.
What should they do to make this game good? Less emphasis on action, bring back dynamic camera angles, create an original storyline or make a continuation of 3. Stop bringing back Pyramid Head just because he is a fan favorite. Make the game LONG. Shattered Memories was a BIG disappointment in terms of length. Make a great soundtrack. Let the characters have a personality that you'll remember. A variety of monsters. And please make it SCARY (it hasn't been since the 1ST SILENT HILL)!!!
Now, more about this trailer. The graphics aren't up to today's standards by no means. Characters LOOK like Silent Hill characters and even move like them, but it looks so dated, just like Homecoming did. The story seems interesting, as do the characters. Atmosphere is dark, but more in an eerie alien way with that X-Files type of music in the background. I don't think it's going to be a bad game at all. In fact, it even looks pretty promising. But, I don't expect it to be great.
This trailer doesn't look that bad. That being said, it doesn't look that good either. Same as Homecoming. Not good, not bad, just somewhere in the middle. I think Silent Hill should be dropped, because it's getting too far from it's roots (just like Resident Evil did, which they should kill also). No Akira Yamaoka=no Silent Hill atmosphere unless they get a damn good musician. While a lot of people fuss about dynamic camera angles, I think they are essential.
@harrymasononvacation Finally a fan I can agree with. Everyone always bitches about how much these new games suck. They really don't look that bad- they just don't look as good as the old games. If people don't like the new games then shut up and just don't play them >[ it's not impossible to be objective and critical without being so freaking negative and hateful.
I'm also sad though that Yamaoka won't be doing the music... his certainly set the bar for horror game soundtracks.
@summonzygote I know! Everyone I meet is like "Homecoming wasn't as good as the originals, therefore it sucked." Of course it's not going to be better than the originals, but that doesn't mean it's a shitty game. However I have really high hopes for this one.
@fwehbulous I have high hopes for every Silent Hill that comes out. It deserves it. While I do think Homecoming and Shattered Memories were lacking a lot, there is a lot of room for improvement, and those games weren't THAT bad. The only thing that is going to make this Silent Hill too different is that Yamaoka is gone. It almost makes me think of it as a whole different franchise.

@Vesenumber22 On another note, I think the combat free Shattered Memories style gameplay was great if they would have made more monsters and made them throughout the game. It certainly pushed the narrative forward faster (well, a little too fast because the game was too short). My main complaints are the length of the game and the changing combat system. Do not make the game more focused on combat and PLEASE make at least a 20 hour game first playthrough. Paying money for a 2 hour game sucks...

I'm willing to give Licht the benefit of the doubt and assume he can pull off a great soundtrack for this game... BUT, Silent Hill without Akira Yamaoka's music would be kinda like making new Star Wars movies without John Williams' famous score.

I think Licht is a little bit sadder and so much slowly than Yamaoka, its not bad but the shadow of Yamaoka and his influence on the universe of Silent Hill is veeeery long. It could be a nice game, but it's almost imposible to recover the spirit and the sensations that caused on me the original Silent Hill Trilogy. By the way, work hard Konami and prove I'm wrong :)

At 2:45, does anyone else notice that there is NO reflection of the little girl in red, and that instead, you see a guy running? It could be the protagonist himself or that neighbor dude in the sweater, can't tell. But that AIN'T no little girl running.
Also, the intro to the song is HEAVILY inspired by the X-Files. at least we know there is a higher chance for a UFO Ending. :-p

The main guy looks like Henry townsend from the 4th game (: And did you also notice the total silent hill 2 moment at 3:38 it was just like James and Maria :D This looks like, by far, it might be the best out of the new ones they have made, it is really sad that we wont hear music by Akira Yamaoka though... She is what makes silent hill silent hill as well.

i really hope that this will have the same camera angles as sh2 rather than shattered memories, the angles were fine but i would just love it if they kept it traditional! unlike what they did with Resident evil 5, not a good horror but a decent action shooter, shouldnt have even been callled resident evil in the first place :p

Once they make a universal game system or have just 1 left, then I'll be happy.

I personally like the combat systems for the original silent hills as well as origins because if something jumped out and scared the hell out you, you could cap its ass. However, my opinion may change since i haven't played Shattered Memories yet.

@AlluMan96 They cound Origins as 1, 1 as 2, 2 as 3, 3 as 4, 4 as 5, Homecoming as 6, Shattered Memories as 7, and this one as 8. I doubt this will be the actual game title, because it just doesn't make sense. Shattered Memories shouldn't be counted as part of the main series, and Origins should be number zero.

hopefully this one will fix up the series, I was doubtful a little at the cops - like this game would be running away from cops GTA basicly, but then when he got to the town after, it looked amazing, the otherworld seems good to, in its own way.
graphics are amazing (hopefully the game will focus on both graphics AND story)

what a dissapointed trailer. It's gonna be another failed Silent Hill series since the developer is not konami, but european / american developer just like origins, homecoming and shattered memories. They cannot built the atmosphere that silent hill has in silent hill 1, 2, and 3.

Time will only tell if this game will live up to some of its predecessors. The last SH game was barely playable -- I think it was the weakest in the series. It all depends on whether the scriptwriters and co. will try to restore the series to its former glory by taking the time to actually play the first three games and discover what made them exceptional, or continue trying to do things their way. Losing Yamaoka is a major drawback as well. His music has been the series' constant strong point.

This seems a lot more Silent Hill game than the Homecoming ever was. For now the only thing i'm sad about is that Akira Yamaoka isn't making the music and that is a major flaw. But we'll see... it looks better than I expected anyway.

1) it all begins when a man had a car accident nearby silent hill, and lost traces of his little daughter (that he was carrying to silent hill for a vacation). So he find out the the city looks like abandoned and full of creepy monsters. In the end, he finds out that everything was 'cause of an ancient ritual casted on a girl named alessa (burned alive in order to try to summon a "god"). Alessa survived, but heavily injured... she started to hate everyone

2) and from that hate, the "otherworld" was created. Infact, all the monsters in the town were icons of alessa's fears. The daughter (cheryl) of the man (Herry) was instead the "good part" of alessa's soul (while the evil part generated silent hill).
Lately, it appears that the evil in silent hill survived after alessa's "death" (reincarnation with ceryl)... and now, the city morphs according to the "character" biggest fears. It is fear that create the otherworld... and the city.

3) That is why in the first silent hill episodes, the otherworld was really created upon main character's fears: in the 1st silent hill, everything was simply rusty and burned (the fear of alessa : the fire); in the 2nd, the otherworld was full of dust and lonelyness (according to the main character's fear for the future); in the 3rd, everything were made of flash and blood (the fear of eather, the main character, that was carrying on pregnancy of the "god" of the 1st silent hill)

Correct. Infact, i kinda like to see that the otherworld has a reason again.
But for now i don't like the way it is: i think that there is too much light.
And i still think that to scare, really scare, you have to HIDE things: not to show them from a panoramic view.
Fixed camera was one of the original "tricks" to scare most (i see the top of that dark stairs from here... but i can't see what's next... THAT is creepy) :)

1)I think that one of the reasons why silent hill is not so scary anymore, is 'cause it has lost all the mistery. In the 1st one, you were continuosly asking to yourself "what the heck is happening?", "where am i?", "why the world changed??". In fact, in the 2nd one they were able to "dodge" this problem by introducing a strong character-incentrated story, so that you were asking "woah... no alessa this time...so, what the hell is wrong?".
In the 3rd, they dodget this by making a pure...

Ps. american teams killed the game lately... that was just 'cause they are too "hollywood style" and "commercial" now: but the very 1st silent hill idea was taken from an american film: jacob's ladder (watch it) ;)

Music is shit.. It is more Diablo like. They should make a new video game, totally different. I think that's why after SH2 none of them really succeded. The first and second part both had totally different stories, which was great.

What should they do to make this game good? Less emphasis on action, bring back dynamic camera angles, create an original storyline or make a continuation of 3. Stop bringing back Pyramid Head just because he is a fan favorite. Make the game LONG. Shattered Memories was a BIG disappointment in terms of length. Make a great soundtrack. Let the characters have a personality that you'll remember. A variety of monsters. And please make it SCARY (it hasn't been since the 1ST SILENT HILL)!!!

Now, more about this trailer. The graphics aren't up to today's standards by no means. Characters LOOK like Silent Hill characters and even move like them, but it looks so dated, just like Homecoming did. The story seems interesting, as do the characters. Atmosphere is dark, but more in an eerie alien way with that X-Files type of music in the background. I don't think it's going to be a bad game at all. In fact, it even looks pretty promising. But, I don't expect it to be great.

This trailer doesn't look that bad. That being said, it doesn't look that good either. Same as Homecoming. Not good, not bad, just somewhere in the middle. I think Silent Hill should be dropped, because it's getting too far from it's roots (just like Resident Evil did, which they should kill also). No Akira Yamaoka=no Silent Hill atmosphere unless they get a damn good musician. While a lot of people fuss about dynamic camera angles, I think they are essential.

@harrymasononvacation Finally a fan I can agree with. Everyone always bitches about how much these new games suck. They really don't look that bad- they just don't look as good as the old games. If people don't like the new games then shut up and just don't play them >[ it's not impossible to be objective and critical without being so freaking negative and hateful.
I'm also sad though that Yamaoka won't be doing the music... his certainly set the bar for horror game soundtracks.

@fwehbulous I have high hopes for every Silent Hill that comes out. It deserves it. While I do think Homecoming and Shattered Memories were lacking a lot, there is a lot of room for improvement, and those games weren't THAT bad. The only thing that is going to make this Silent Hill too different is that Yamaoka is gone. It almost makes me think of it as a whole different franchise.

@Vesenumber22 On another note, I think the combat free Shattered Memories style gameplay was great if they would have made more monsters and made them throughout the game. It certainly pushed the narrative forward faster (well, a little too fast because the game was too short). My main complaints are the length of the game and the changing combat system. Do not make the game more focused on combat and PLEASE make at least a 20 hour game first playthrough. Paying money for a 2 hour game sucks...
