  • Hi :)

  • This may sound dumb, but whats a TMPer?

  • @Phil2923 "The Nutnfancy Project" its tnp

  • @Phil2923 the only dumb questions are the ones that go unasked.

  • Damn i love thgis knife. I got the Spartan Silver Tech

  • wanna see more victorinox videos in 1080p go to my channel!

  • It's nice to know Nutnfancy scooped fish.

  • I have a One Hand Trekker. I like it, but opening it isn't very consistent. First, there some tension. Once you're past that, there's no tension from the back spring until the blade is at about a 90 degree angle and the tension from the back spring all comes back at once. You've got to really dig your thumb into the hole. When I first got mine, I wasn't expecting it to be so inconsistent with the opening, my thumb slipped, and it cut into my palm a bit. Maybe mine's just defective, though.

  • i have the one handed forester (variant of the trekker) and i love it, it has the "traction" inserts but the inserts on mine dont pick up lint or grab on to my pockets. maybe it is just mine but i havent had any of those problems. the one handed swiss army knives are my favorite swiss army knives because they are harder to find and just look cool

  • the "logo" on the German Army Knife is the "Bundesadler"

  • I've bought the new Soldier 08 model, with the rubber inserts, and I really, really like it!. yes, the liner lock is strange, yes its slow to open. but hey, what did you expect? I mean, the old soldier knives needed 2 hands, which was slower to open.

some may not like the blade, but the serrations allow some more heavy-duty work, and the tools are amazing. that woodsaw cuts trough big timber blocks faster than some stand alone woodsaws, and the locking flathead is great for all kinds of things.

  • @audioh0lic Good points; it just seems to me that Victorinox are stuck in a design rut and judging by their product line, cant be bothered to make a one handed folder that can really compete with companies like spyderco etc.

  • @OmteZero Indeed, they can't be bothered to compete with true one handers, it would be way out of their league. Victorinox makes knifes that have a lot of functions. Thats what I like about them. you've got yourself the versatility to tackle just about any job. its a jack of all trades, master of none. and don't forget the price! its wicked cheap compared to the quality.

  • This knife is goofy! People need to stop giving Victorinox an easy ride and tell them when they screw things up. And this knife BLOWS. That wierd single bevel combo blade SUCKS. The one handed opening is SLOW.The ass backwards locking mechanism is FUBAR.

Victorinox need to get back to making functional knives and stop doing things different just for the hell of it. I'm amazed the swiss military picked a model similar to this as a sucessor to the old soldier.

  • Hi i recently lost my Victorinox Pioneer stolen, and was planning to replace it with the trekker or the Rescue tool model. I'm a bit unsure for what to look for since their virtually very similar knives that play very different roles in different scenarios. Which knife would you recommend?

  • I have ground the awfull serrations and its been one my favorites till the Skeletool CX appeared.

  • can you get this knife un serated but still one handed opening

  • @thecjc97 yes

  • @ratemyswing1 where ive looked every where that i can think of

  • @thecjc97 order it on amazon.com

  • @ratemyswing1 ohhhh cool thank you i dont know why i didnt think of that

  • @Veri Please tell Nutn that the steel on Victorinox is X55CrMoV15

  • oh my god i cant decide between the soldier and the one hand trekker they are almost exactly the same except one has better grips and the other has tweezers and a toothpick!! HELP ME PICK!

  • the trekker b is the exacte same knife but no srredted blade 1000 times better

  • I didn't like them until I handled one myself...damn...I like it..actually considering just getting the single bladed one as a pen knife...really cool

  • I'm really confused with Trekker, which one should I choose. serrated vs non-serrated blade ? I mostly use my knife when fishing. Which one will work better with fresh fish preparation ? I already have Victorinox Tinker (larger) but the blade is kinda to short for fish work.

  • @SouthernSky go with the plain edge, cleaner cut.

  • serration on the top of the blade are better, so you have the most used part of the blade free for wood working etc.

  • Just got my own One Hand Trekker in the mail about 10 minutes ago. Accidentally cut myself with it about 8 minutes ago. XD

  • LLBean sells a non-serrated version of this knife. I myself prefer non serrated blades.

  • its so awesome watching all these videos, i have such better knife play.

  • I'm Swiss, and i know why the liner locked is reversed...

I carried a spyderco folder and the police made a body searched, I told them I carry such a knife and they told be that we have a new carring law since 2008 so every folding knife over 12 cm (opened) and a blade longer than 5cm is illegal to carry, you can have it at home but can't carry it on you or in the car, so pretty useless

victorinox made the trick that with this reversed liner lock you can't close it one handed so it's legal

  • @Spaeckli

    What if you're left-handed...

  • @CanItAlready then it's no problem, because the majority is right handed

  • Wenger created the swiss army knife, and victorinox copied the design.

  • @droptodead95 u do know wenger and victorinox are same company ....

  • @viniv20 victorinox bought wenger recently, the original creator of the swiss army knife was Wenger. Inform yourself !

  • @droptodead95 inform yourself , victorinox was founded in 1884 wenger was founded 1893 , victorinow started making knives for swiss army in 1891 , in 1983 Paul Boéchat & Cie started making a similar product , so later swiss army decided to split the contract in half so victorinox and wegner could deliver swiss army knives both without rivalism , only in 2005 victorinox bought wegner but kept both brandnames alive , the reason why genuine is used in wegner slogan, cause it was made in zwitserland

  • @droptodead95 (further text of what i was saying ) the reason why victorinox uses original in their slogan is cause the desinger karl elsener was based in germany and only later came to zwitserland to manufacture it's knives ... BUT VICTORINOX WAS THE FIRST TO DELIVER KNIVES TO THE SWISS ARMY!!!

  • @viniv20 You were tottaly right, I'm sorry I was wrong.

  • @droptodead95 no problem , when i'm wrogng i admit it but when i'm right too , i have no problem with being wrong when i am wrong , but please don't be rude by saying inform yourself! , but hey no problem ! ;)

  • Do you have THE dutch army knife? Im dutch!

  • LIKE THIS KNIFE. I carry this knife on the weekends.

  • This was my second swiss army knife and i lone this knife!

  • Thanks for your video(s). I decided to purchase the Trekker instead of the Soldier after watching this...and save me some monies in the process! Thanks.

  • My best friend Robert owns this Bundeswehr-olive swiss knive. Its fine piece of gear but too small for me. He own its because he is totaly freaked on military gear (not paramilitary -but only used in army) to the point that he wears only army briefs:D -from Royal Netherlands Army I think...

  • Hi,

the reason why the toothpick etc. are removed is that recruits in our army always loose them ^_^

    greetings, motoko

  • Hey Nutn, thanks for the review! Going on this I went and brought a one handed trekker, but I also managed to score a plain edged model! It's such a sweet knife.

  • Swiss Army steel = 12C27

  • Comment removed

  • The "rubber" on the Swiss Army version is actually not very sticky on clothing and doesn't gather dirt at all. It doesn't even feel different if you just slide your finger over it. It's just a bit softer and gives you that bit of extra grip.

  • Are serrated blades much harder to keep sharp than the non-serrated type?

  • @liverpoolpaddy Serrated blades stay sharper for a longer time, but when they do need to be re-sharpened it's more of a hassle.

  • just bought one today, very good knife, very sharp and easy to open, it is also very light.

  • Is there a one handed victorinox without serations ? I really want 1

  • @tactical202 Yes there is a Swiss site webers-world offering Sentinels with a plain rather than wavy edge,i really like the idea of a one handed opening SAK but i dont like a serrated main blade, hopefully they will start offering more models with the plain edge .

  • Nice review and yes they are great knifes, i like yours reviews great job.

  • nice !

  • it cuts paper and thumbs.......got mine for 8 dollers

  • finally a knife that has the serrations on the end! You do almost all of the cutting with the beginning of the knife right?

  • AWESOME knife! i have one got it a year ago used it a ton and its still razor sharp!

  • Pleas tell me, where did you buy this green german version for $27 in USA

  • Just picked up the German Army variant off ebay last week. It is a beautiful knife for an amazing price $36 shipped.

  • i did sharpen mine today. due to the soft steal it was not to hard

  • @chjens5

    I do not believe you

  • Of course the German-Army Knife is not the official Swiss Army Knife. German is different from Switzerland.

  • has anyone had the problem of the plastic and metal parts of the knife coming apart near the lock screwdriver? both my dad's and mine both are.

Other than that they are great blades

  • hi nutnfancy, i love your videos! they are so valuable if one has to decide between different models!

i'd love to see you reviewing one of the wenger new-ranger or ranger-grip series. i would be especially interested as to how you would rate the pliers that comes with some of these wenger knives (e.g. wenger newranger 70). pliers is something that victorinox does not offer in their ordinary folding knives, only in their full-fledged multitools.

  • Howcome a Swiss knife is cheaper in the US then in a country that is 4 hour drive from Switzerland?

  • @Angyal269 Because there wages are less, Im from Australia and everything is cheaper in the US then here

  • @mercbenzblack I'm from Hungary, there is no way that Americans make less money than we do.

  • I cut 5 little cuts in the blade, behind the deployment hole with my dremel. That really helps.

Thank you for your great reviews! All the best from Switzerland.

  • I got the new swiss army knife 08 in my military time and i carry it daily since then :D great video btw

  • I got a camo one handed Trekker! I carry it with me on the flightline, even though personal tools are illegal. ;)

  • @stuntmanmike37 I'm telling your supervisor! is it "ssgt stuntmanmike37". I was an AGE guy and had to carry a knife. I needed it to open the back panels on the -86

  • @nesbitt615 It's SrA. Stuntmanmike, and I use it on -86 doors too. Also for the airloc fasteners on the airplanes.

  • @stuntmanmike37 Dude it was sooooo dumb where i was stationed, We couldn't have soda or energy drinks in our trucks just a canteen of water tethered to the truck . Couldn't carry any tools. if I did it, would have probably saved my back from blowing out from having to tow all that crap in to fix minor stuff

  • Can anyone tell me how many layers this tool has? Thanx

  • Stephen Churu ,that is handy to know about the Mineral Oil. We got Liquid Paraffin as Children in Ireland to make us go go it is an Edible Oil.

The Olive Oil worked alright no problems it loosened it up a bit,it was to hand.

  • i had the same problem with my german one.

to fix it, open the handles, you will see some "lines" insile thats supose to go with the pincer and the teeth cleaner, now comes a litle delicated work> cut the teeth and pincer holes in the handle (to have a better idea of wath im talking about, open the handle of the black one has well and you will realize it), them, buy an extra teeth and pincer , put inside and voala! your german victorinox trekker have theese two extra stuff!

  • i had the same problem with my german one.

  • I absentmindedly cut my Thumb and Forefinger while Flicking the Blade,so watch what you are doing. It was not much of a cut but stinging all the same. It has 10 engraved on the bottom of Blade next to Hilt probably means 10cm or 4 Inch. I put some Olive Oil on to loosen the action of the Flick a bit,as I did not want to use Ordinary Lubricating Oil because it might be used for Food. It is a great rough and ready Knife for Camping unlike my Refined Swiss Multi tool Officers Knife.

  • @sunnyjoe66

Try mineral oil, which won't oxidize as much as olive oil, but is also safe (used to be used to loosen the bowels?) for consumption.

  • I got the Swiss Army Version last Week Soldatenmesser 0.8461 mwch It is the one you showed briefly like the German one without the Toothpick and Tweezers. I got it as part of my Survival Kit for Camping or Cycling in the Hills. I have a Swedish Fire Steel and Survival Whistle,it is a great Knife. I also have the Refined Multitool Swiss Officers Knife and a Victorinox Hunting Sheath Knife. This new Knife is nice and compact with a handy 4 inch saw for Tinder cutting.Be careful opening it.

  • thank you for the review. I have been using my victorinox grand prix since i was about 5 or 6 and after my time in the military i have been thinking of getting a new one cuz the gran prix is quite worn down... And these one handed knives seem very interesting

  • i bought mine today in canada and my friend thinks that these blades arnt very sharp so he strokes his thumb over it and it started bleeding all over the car. this is one of my favorite blades

  • @LegoDude10099 That's terrible, but I couldn't help but laugh. :D -- Veri

  • @LegoDude10099 The exact thing happened to a friend of mine :)))) Great knife

  • @LegoDude10099 wow. you know that the blade of the knife was somehow open, and the knife took a wiff at my skin, and then i started bleeding like crazy. To the point to when i thought i had hemophilia.

  • @LegoDude10099 hahahaah.

  • @LegoDude10099 ha yeah i think that's because there are so many fakes out there that ppl are used to seeing them dull and when they see a real one...

  • @LegoDude10099 lol what an idiot

  • the 1 in the right is not a trekker its a soldier

  • Isn't the serrated part of the blade for cutting rope and things like that? : /

  • SWITZERLAND HELL YEAAAAHHH

  • i just got one of these with a free victorinox classic for 27 bucks with free shipping. pretty damn good deal if you ask me

  • I just ordered one. :)

  • Good thing I watched this video. I was very interested in the one handed Trekker, but then the fact that the liner lock is "backwards" really curbed my enthusiasm. Phew!

  • Says around 52 on Victorinox website.

  • please make a video about how tu use vis stile of ken opener

  • I hate these knives. Expensive ugly toy. Beter by Boker or CRKT or Gerber knives. They are much, much beter then Victorinox. Ofcorse small Victorinox pocket knives with meny tools are good, but nut these one handel.

  • 2:57 You're crazy. Just buy a round diamond needle file. A few strokes on each serration will sharpen it right up.

  • got this knife when it first came out. did find it a bit big at first but after a few days it became my edc. alot of people were hating on it until it came in handy during our road trip thru the south and while camping in florida. i do wish the can opener locked though, its closed on me a few times when it gets stuck while opening larger cans. all in all great edc. btw great review.

  • I love mine. It is the first SAK IMHO that can be a true survival tool. I don't think it is too big for an EDC. I usually carry this and a Champion plus...lol. It also can be used as a latch ditch defense weapon. Try that with a tinker.

  • *randomly produces handgun to show grip* WTF?! :D Seriously, though many thanks for the review... I've been looking at this knife and your info was very helpful!

  • They make a full plain edge version too.

  • My dad got a version of this knife and I hate it so much. There is so much bad about it. Too large, liner lock on the wrong side (impossible to one hand close), no clip, annoying serrations, the list goes on and on. You would be way better off with any other Victorinox knife. The quality is top notch, but the design is poor in my opinion.

  • @fidgetingfinch No other Victorinox knives have clips, and some knives are that heavy and only have the blade, if you are worried about thickness it is a camp knife not an EDC knife.

  • Hey nutn can you do a review on the victorinox rescue tool?

  • Just got my non-serrated version. I'm a lefty, so the lock is really easy to close for me :-)

  • Only problem with that knife is the backwards half serrated edge.

  • I've been looking into buying a pocket knife for a while now, first since I was a boyscout as a kid. This seems to be a good choice but what is the best reliable online retailer in your guys opinion? I see you guys are paying like 20$ for this but they're 40$ on ebay.

And because it locks in place, would this be illegal in new york if the large blade is over 4 inches? Anybody have a measurement? Thanks in advance.

  • I saw the trekker in the store yesterday, never thought it would be so big

  • you are soldier??

  • Comment removed

  • Always enjoy your reviews, this was no exception.

I bought the black handled one friday @ Academy sports, 29,95

Wally world has them for 39.00.

IMHO a very useful knife when hunting/camping, I was impressed by the saw, it works great making shelters when you need a straigh,t even notch cut.

I think you will like how the forward serrations work on food prep around camp.

Lately, I've found myself leaving the multi tools @ home b/c of the weight, this puppy is just enough tools 4 the job.

    R

  • U can buy a one hand trekker with a non serated blade. It's awsome I just got one

  • the reason the liner lock is reversed is because if they had put it the normal way they would have to move the screw driver to the opposite side to make it lock and then they would have to move the saw and it would be a big mess so i really dont mind the reverse liner lock.

  • yeah, you might need speed getting it out, but you can almost certainly take you time putting it away.

  • @tannertgf plus its good for lefties

  • they kind of look like spyderco knives

  • I got lucky and bought the Trekker today at a Fredmeyer on clearance, for only 14 bucks! Amazing tool

  • hey do u no where to buy victorinox knifes like this Brooklyn?

  • Victorinox makes quality stuff for a good price. I have a good number of their utility knives/tools. Great company with a rich history.

Interesting knife. I like the one-handed blade. Serrations...meh. Would also like to see scissors. After the main blade I use them the most on my knives. That and the saw.

    Nice review.

  • They make a non serrated version of the one handed trekker now

  • In the forums everybody complains of blade playing interesting nutnfancy dont!!!Probebly they send shit models for east Europe too poor...FUCK victorinox_!_

  • I just got one of these today, awesome knife! It's so sharp, I ran my finger gently along the edge (im an idiot) and I got a tiny cut that wouldn't stop bleeding lol.

  • @Evanfire11 I did the same thing with the seat belt cutter on those knives.

  • One-Hand Trekker Non-Serrated

    Style Number: 54875

    Size: 111 mm | 4 3/8 inch

Guess some manufacturers do pay attention, who'd have guessed

  • Victorinox knives are great quality with a great price.w

    Wonderful!

  • I've purchased about a dozen knives because of your reviews..got this one in camo..nice..keep givin the us the good info..

  • I have it, I love it!!!! people get whiney about the serrations but it is new and innovative. i like the straight edge of the blade where it is. i do most of my carving close to the choil of the knife. I just wish they put the phillips driver opening towards the rear instead of the middle and a thread hole in the reamer

  • I got this knife and the forward serrations were a real nuisance. The good news is that they are easy to grind off. Now it has a double-sided plain edge and I love the knife.

The locking screwdriver/bottle opener is very important to me. I have hurt myself more by SAK screwdrivers folding during use than blades. To stay engaged in a slotted screw you need to push hard, and this increases the risk of the tool folding suddenly. So long as I cut with the sharp side, the blade won't fold in use.

  • is this california legal? i know they were trying to outlaw one handed knives entirely.

  • What's the length of the cutting edge on the One Hand Trekker main blade? (Not the entire blade...the sharp part)

  • im getting the new soilder do a review on the hertiga knife

  • I just secured the newer version of this knife the Soldier and I like the rubber inserts.

They give the knife a fraction more grip in wet environment but are normally as smooth as the plastic (at first I thought it was just another color plastic).. you have to hold it before having a opinion.. GREAT review as always!

  • I disagree, if you are going to be defending your life with a knife (a gun is a much better choice) I know that I would want the most reach possible, with a longer blade you wouldnt have to be AS close to the attacker.

  • do u think this is a good self defense knife

  • no, blade length is way to short for a defensive blade

  • no blade lenth isnt the problem the tip just isnt that sharp

  • absolutely not look at a cold steel ti lite, recon 1 or spyderco police hope this helps ya.

  • I think in the German version they removed the toothpick and tweezers because they will get lost and the next soldier getting that knife will complain about it. In 2009, the Bundeswehr knife is ~30 €uros in Germany, the old Bundeswehr "Taschenmesser" (pocket knife) you can get around 10 €uros, and it's a good deal (too bad I lost mine :( ).

Please, more German gear reviews! ;-)

  • What kinda Report is this where you say stuff about the knofe, compare it to a rescue knife & yet NOT know how it works when cutting?

TOTALLY Unbelievable Reporter with a MONOTONE Voice

  • lol knofe...

  • can you get a non serrated one?

  • You can now, they came out with it just a little while ago.

  • Yes. Search for Victorinox One-Hand Trekker Non-Serrated.

  • what is nutnfancy's bolg?

  • You need thinner thumbs or bigger nails

  • I just ordered the ns one hander....i love your reviews dude u have me hooked now....

  • does any swiss army knife have a fish scaler?

  • orinox fisherman, for sure. but it is smaller model.

  • Wegner Ranger 58 is better in my opinion.

  • Use a rat tail file to sharpen the front part since its chizel ground it is easyer to sharpen then other ones..

  • Whats with a bunch of your last videos being knifes I resently bought :p I have the one you saw the frist one.. ...

  • Victorinox makes the One-hand Trekker in a non-serrated version in a couple different scale colors. I've seen them in black and camouflage scales. Great knives in any configuration. Nice review.

  • i got that in blistered red.

  • I've never seen it in red. I'll have to search the net for a picture, sounds interesting. I have the non-serrated in Black. I've got the serrated version in the German Army model. I'm more of an SAK Alox fan but I also like their liner lock models. Especially the One-Hand versions.

  • One hand models are excelent. Fit and finish, quality and price are awsome. Highly recomended like other victorinox stuff.

  • if you use version with more tools, i recommend to do not use onehanded. this thumbhole hump gives bad grip when using other tools, ie saw or can opener.

  • With my one handed trekker i can flick the main blade out fairly quickly. Ive been using it for quite a while and i guess it just loosened up over the years but yeah i can get a good flick of it out. The serrations feel like any normal half serrated blade even though they come first. I love the saw. Ive cut through some pretty thick wood with it. Its a little annoying to clean because the wood chunks get stuck in the saw teeth but whatever. Great Knife.

  • gotta love rooster tails, they work great

  • I've had the Bundeswehr ver. for a couple years now. I am usually against serrations but on this knife they work well. I now keep mine in a small zippered hunting organizer along with basic survival gear. The saw is surprisingly useful.

  • Now they make a one hand trekker that has a plain edge -but I think it only comes with camo handles. They also have a one hand non-serrated sentinel now that has a pocket clip. Cool stuff,

    Thanks

  • same blade shape as the spyderco and byrd knockoff version of the spyderco

  • i have a old version of that knive with the same tools, it has about 5 years and is my every day knive, its great!!! my dad have his victorinox for +/- 30 years and is still has new!

    great review, thanks

  • small serations are for cutting rope.

  • Would love to know why you have a low opinion of chisel grind. If its in one of your other vids, I missed it.

  • See his review of the Emerson CQC-8.

  • simba, comments like your's are extremely helpful, thanks so much! Nutn can't monitor these forums and answer questions like he would like to, and depends on you guys to help him out. Much appreciated. - Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • this trekker model is now available with a non serrated main blade.

they are not on the victorinox website, but saw a couple of them on ebay.

  • u should go to razors edge and get it made to a plain edge

  • will you duracoat them...
