  • Quite simply the best tenor voice that history has produced.

  • Thank you for a great post of a legendary artist.

  • On this, Mr Vickers birthday, thank you so much for this priceless and historic recording. Despite what some whingers say, hearing JV discuss the music in detail adds immeasurably to an appreciation of his committed performances. Wonderful ! Any idea where we may find some Tristan or Trojans footage ?

  • SUBLIME !!!

  • Wow, amazing grand father.^^;;

  • He did not quit because of his voice or health. He wanted to take care of his wife who was sick. A career is of no use if you loose that which has given you sustenance. When his wife died in 91 they had been married 38 years. That is knowing what is important.

His singing is wonderfully sentimental. He finds the sentiment in each phase that he can express within the range of expression he has. He is always very masculine.

  • Magnitfico!

  • I admire him sooooo much. It was written and said about him so much.....and he did

for opera and music so much. He is my big motivation. It is something u cant describe............magic,divinity....I dont know!!!!

  • Jon Vickers' voice could not be more different from that of John McCormack, who also sang this piece. I love both performances. Vickers sings with great power and sensitivity and has an excellent technique. A magnificent artist!

  • THE MASTER

  • Una leyenda. todo un heroe tremenda voz

  • Received it from a collector. I've always laughed at his speaking voice. What a difference from his singing!

  • UNREAL!! 62 years old and still singing with such mastery and power. You'd think after a career of singing the most demanding roles written for the most demading type of vocal music, his voice wouldn't be so supple and beautiful at this age. Incredible. Such a master.

  • 62! I hadn't thought about his age but your correct. NO wobble-the voice essentially unchanged.

    More to come.

  • Excellent posting... where did you find this? Also, very interesting to hear the delicate tamber he uses with his speaking voice. Much higher than I imagined it being.

  • Thanks for pointing that out! 1988, his last year as an active singer. Remarkable.

  • Wonderful, but is this really from 2008?

  • @nornsnornsnorns 1988 not 2008.
