  • Its amazing how on a piano a person can play the bass and the alto/tenor/soprano section with just 2 hands.. in my school we had a tenor an alto and a baritone

  • mjuniorsc, i play a lot of ragtime myself. you've played this very well... good job.

  • so cheerful LOL

  • I think that you are a great pianest and all...but in all honesty you are playing this beautiful piece WAY too fast. On the sheet music, it says to play a slow march tempo, I don't know about you but this seems like a fast march tempo. Ragtime is not meant to be fast.

  • i thought you manipulated the tempo a little too much. its ragtime not baroque.

  • Your basic ragtime feel is good although I don't understand the slow embellishments you give this piece. It makes no sense to me. Almost classical. Does nothing for the song. Also, you have forgotten to play the rest of the Pineapple Rag. The song does not finish there, there is still another 1 minute left to play!

Why so many composers choose not to play this part I will never understand. Perhaps it is too progressive for them?

I will upload the real version of this song ASAP.

  • @BenNCM hey, thanks for your comment. I really play waht is in my sheets that I have dowloaded. I 'd like to get the entire of the Pineapple RAg.

  • I enjoyed listening to this a lot, thanks for putting it up!

  • Nice tempo!

  • This reminds me of my childhood!!!!! :DDDDD

  • This reminds me of my childhood!!!!! :DDDDD

  • This reminds me of my childhood!!!!! :DDDDD

  • This reminds me of my childhood!!!!! :DD

  • Awesome!

  • Nice job man. Jopin's music is playable, but not easy in any respect. I hope to have my verison uploaded soon.

  • very precise playing, videos like this inspire me to get a 88key piano =) great job man

  • dear "Manu" I ve been playing Dixieland and Rags for around 25 years . If Scott (Joplin of course )resurrected I am shure he would play this rag just like you do! Simply delicious!! Bernardo-Argentina

  • this is it, i have been listening to other versions here in youtube and this is the right way this piece should be played... congratulations and go forward....

  • just the right tempo for ragtime :)

  • Great job! Love your videos.

  • THANKS!

  • *** I play with my personal interpretation and I do the way I like ***

Go with it Manoel, you play it great! Thank you.

  • おお、so fine play!これ、今度弾くんです。

  • another one here, and for teh ones that they don like this version, go to other place!

  • That bass is too dominant. (0:27-0:47 and more)

When you can hold the same tempo, it's a nice one. I like this number when it's a little bit slower.

I'm now learning this, not so hard, but it's very beautiful. One of Joplin's best!

  • hey man, i like it at this tempo... so you got a fan here :)

  • lol I say the tempo is perfect, Scott joplin says play ragtime 'not fast', not 'slow'. I can't stand this piece in particular played in anything other than a lively manner, so I really enjoyed this performance. Nice one!

  • HAHAHAH, thanks man!! I will post new videos very soon!!!

I will be waiting your visit and comment!!

    bye

  • geeze, this is waaay too fast. it is quite jarring. here i am trying to relax and you hit me with this. this is an insult to any serious musician who labors to play joplin at the right tempo. if you are not willing to play it at the right tempo, i suggest that you post on myspace instead.

actually on second thought it's a little on the slow side. apart from the grievously flawed tempo, it's good i guess.

;-) just kidding, this is really nice.

  • take a look at my version.and please comment rate and view maple leaf rag and all of my other videos please.and take a look at my orchestral version of this!!

  • ok! I will look at that!

  • Very nice.

  • You're really talented, however, the composer knows best. Right on the music it says "Note: Do not play this piece fast~Composer" I think it would have been much better if it was a little bit slower, but I still liked it.

  • thanks for your comment, but in my opinion, this is considered not fast. In old times, this was slow.

  • it's too slow, too fast and too perfect!!!

  • I'm amazed because you control your instrument really well!!! But it's a little fast. And you should bring out the left hand part at the 2nd movement when it's playing semiquavers and the right hand part is not playing anything. Anyway, NICE!!! XD

  • thanks!!! About your comment, If I don´t play anything with the right hand is because is not written, so, you can send a notification to the book!!!!

  • TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FAST!!!!! jk, good job man, keep the good work

  • its too fast and too slow.

ok kidding. great job, man. anyway, im thinking about buying this keyboard. how is the action and the sound of it?

  • heheheh!

    ok!

I like the action because the keys are heavy like a real grand piano. The sound is great because it has an input amplifier with perfect equalization and very sensitivy.

  • Again, I say Scott Joplin is to the rag what J S Bach is to the fugue. Awesome, great playing! Playing it the way you want at your interpretation is musicianship at its best...keep up the good work!

  • oh wow, ur really good!

  • What is the action like on this model of Yamaha E Piano? Its just im considering buying one soon. Are the keys 'stiff'? Its just some electric pianos say they have weighted keys but when you play them, they feel like some unused piano where you need a hammer to depress the keys!

  • I actually like the tempo, so HAH.

  • nice playing man. you've encouraged me to get the book out and relearn this piece. thanks

  • nice interpretation. I like the middle part when the melody gets more jumpy. Makes me think of a beautiful merry-go-round.

  • Impressive. Well-played & keeps a consistent tempo.

  • wow this is really good. your pace is really steady and you know exactly where your fingers are going to land. a piece like that will take me 2 months of constant practicing after work to master.

  • thats amazing :D this is such a great song, and you play it so well! keep it up

  • thanks man!!

  • Very nice with no mistakes, you play very good! Keep it up! The tempo is right. ;)

  • i don't know this rag very well but you play beautifully, so many people speed up as they go along or plod but this sounds brilliant. how long have you been playing?

  • I recorded this song 1 year ago, and I studied during 10 days.

    Thanks for your comment

  • Grande!

  • Excellent choice of songs to play! I have always loved Scott Joplin since I was 8! He is so under-rated; I hope you continue to make people aware of how awesome his music is! GREAT JOB!

  • Thanks man!!

  • ooooo. Im only 11 and.....i dont think i could do that. How long does it take 2 learn???

  • I think during 50-1min theres a part that you did wrong, in my book it's only alittle different, maybe you couldn't play that part? However im not saying im better than you, your wayyy better than me, but still check it and replay to me please, im curious

  • Can you send my your sheet please?, because I played exactly it is written in mine, sorry, but is not WRONG.Maybe some variations.

    thank´s for your comment

  • absolutely amazing~! i'm 14 and starting to learn the piece-- now i'm thinking 'ah man, what did i get my self into!!' :P very well done- bravo!

  • thank you!!!

  • Incredible playing! Wow!

  • Wow very well done!

  • You play it very well, but there actually are a few small errors. Don't get me wrong, I like your performance and I really appreciate that you've posted it.

  • I can only ear music.. this is awesome but one thing I get to laugh at with u notation guys is that page turn... hysterical... but WOW I couldn't play this to perfection without many more hours at the keys. Although once we get a piece, we need no paper... I guess it's a trade either way. Do they make a scrolling music screen that uses your keypresses to advance the "sheet" so you can just look at one point and play on???

  • Hehehe, nice comment!!

    thank you again!

  • i'm exactly the same way. i couldnt sight read if my life depended on it, lol.

  • Your version of Pine Apple Rag is better than Richard Zimmerman's Interpretation!Well Done My Friend

  • OH thanks!!!

  • wtf... he didnt change anything...

  • I LOVE THIS SONG! I heard it on the radio for the first time and fell in love with it. It's so cheery! ^^ You do a great job too.

  • oh! thanks!!

  • I love that piece... And you're so good at interpreting it ! I would love to hear more scott joplin works performed by you, possibly ones that haven't benn posted yet !

  • thanks! what song do you want me to play?

  • I love the speed. Excellent job. Sounds like you would here it on a cd. Very well done.

  • oohhh, thank you very muuuch

  • Well done Carlos..one of my all time favorite Joplin pieces..you got the quiet parts in their nicely, Scott would be pleased with you and you got the "ringing melody" which is very much signature "Scott Joplin".

Joplin really "hyped up the "bouncey syncopated feel" the left hand was really to sound out the rhythm.

Thanks..5/5 great effort and I hope you enjoy the pieve as much as I do. :)

  • oh! thanks so much!

  • Fantastic song. I have several Scott Joplin CD's and this song always stands out. Light years ahead of the Entertainer in my opinion. Great job A++

  • sry dindt see the video info. Its amazing how well its sounds although its a electric piano

  • ok,no problem! thanks for visiting

  • For me its to fast, but well played no mistakes!!! 5/5

  • i love this piece. i particularly remember this from rollercoaster tycoon!

  • ....very good, I like Ratime-music.....

  • This is the perfect speed for this song, do not listen to anyone else. It's the same speed I play it and the same speed I've heard on professional recordings. Keep up the great work!

  • well thats the speed THEY think it is in all of the books it says composers note...this is not a fast song.

  • Fast is relative. This is not playing the song fast.

  • yea i no......well not back then....i heard people play idifferently i apolgize for my rude comment

  • Wonderful and truly impressive - wish I could play like that!

  • Thanks man! This helped me hear what it's supposed to sound like. (Im learning how to play it)

  • dynamics not so great 4/5

  • Thanks very much!!!

  • hahaha good answer to a rotten comment

  • comment not so great 4/5

  • The keys seem fully weighted. Seems to be a great keyboard. Very well played by the way.

  • oh yeah, I like the digital piano! Thank you for your visit!

  • Very nice! Well played.

  • THANKS!

  • that was awesome!

im learning to play this but barely hope to ever play it that well =)

  • this sounds like the actual CD.

  • it certainly does! great job!

  • Most of Joplin's requests to play slow were to counteract the players of his day that would play ragtime as fast as humanly impossible to impress people. There's no set in stone tempo to play ragtime at. This is actually a great tempo for this piece, and I really enjoyed it! Thanks for posting it, Manoel!

  • thanks man!

  • ragtime is awesome ;]

  • Beautiful playing, sir.

  • thanks!

  • Coíncido con Shiro: muy bien el tempo. Bravo Carlito'!

  • I am looking into getting one of these keyboards. Do you like it? It sounds nice.

Btw, the is most musical version I have heard!

  • thanks for your comments! I love my keyboard

  • What most modern raggers (not you) forget is that ragtime is supposed to be happy, joyous dance music. If it doesn't make you get up and dance, or at least stomp your foot it's being played too slow.

    I love your rendition.

  • I tottaly agree rag was made to dance upon so all that guys (not this guy indeed) that play fast (too fast) should reconsider their tempo

  • dude i love this song in ragtime =DDDDD

but i always search for the sheet and i don't get it =''( where did't you get it??

    seeya dude

    keep on

  • Among all the available versions, this is the best.. Rags shouldn't be fast but all the others version are kinda too slow..

This is the song played in The Sims when the sims reach creativity level 10.. It was as fast as this which makes this version the best of all..

    excellent job..

  • agree.. so, you play The Sims too? I played it a long time ago..

This version is really good.. but i think, you should play it with Steinway or grand piano.. the keyboard kinda vibrates many times...

  • lol.. surely, playing in grand will make the video somehow better..

  • The tempo is Soo good not to fast or slow Yeah nice one!:)

  • THANKS!!

  • personally I don't think this song is palyed too slow or too fast, I'v heard actual recordings of scott joplin playing his songs faster than this. I think each ragtime song has a given speed that makes it sound the best, some faster than others and I'm pretty sure that Scott Joplin knew this when he wrote it. this is a perfect speed, dunno what other people are talking about

  • Is it allowed for me to say that the speed is absolutely perfect? I've been playing this song for years at this speed, it just fits the song I think.

  • i surely agree that the speed is the best at this.. but rags actually shouldn't be fast and in the professional recordings, this song is played slower, which is boring. unfortunately, we can't ask Joplin because he's kinda dead

  • Music is most superlative!

  • love it! great job!

  • i too hate reading if is too fast or low

    or blaaah

  • Great! I watched this vid cuz I saw your tempo statement in the description. Ragtime is a purely American invention. It really stuck it to classical piano solo music & really shook things up. It lacks detail in nuances that classical has. It just "suggests" what the notes are & that's it. That means play it however you wanna play it! =D

  • Thanks, you understand my point

  • Excellent! Thanks! Tempo is just right.

  • Actually, Joplin clearly specified that ragtime is meant to be played SLOWLY. I'd say this tempo is in keeping with modern virtuosic performances of ragtime; it should be along the lines of Glenn Gould's 1985 performances of the Goldberg variations.

  • Well Joplin isn't here now is he. The new tempo reflects the times. And its not super fast anyway. It's lively. Far more interesting than if it is done slowly.

And you can play any song at any tempo you please. Look at varying tempos on songs by the Stones or the Dead, look at many jazz musicians and the way they play standards, like The Man I Love, or How High The Moon.

The tempo is just right does not mean as Joplin wishes, but as I wish, fool! :)

  • You have the same keyboard as me! I love that keyboard.

  • Great Job! The Tempo Sounded Just Right.

  • thanks!!!

  • I Hate Reading About How Its "TOO FAST!" I Always Tell Them To Play It Them Selves! And Are You Going To Play Any of Scott Joplin's More Famous Ragtime Music?

  • Why don't you completely turn off comments if you can't stand other people's reception of your work and will delete the comments if not complying with your opinion?

  • Because I Am bored with some kind of comments. This is my youtube, and I will delete, yes I will! what is the problem?

  • At last, Someone who plays like I do. Keep it up and 10/10

  • marvelous! thanks.

  • you know perfectly around the piece. but apart from that I'll be posting my response.

  • I play with my personal interpretation and I do the way I like. I will delete comments about how fast is this. Thanks for visiting my video

  • lol, thats right, tell them off

  • Absolutely Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love it. Just love it. Thanks!

  • nice work! very clean and crisp! just like how all of joplin's stuff should be played!

  • Indeed. Tasteful embellishment like the bass octaves, and played at a proper slow march tempo, which contrary to most people's belief is not actually slow.

  • Well done! Keep up the good work.

  • Excellent piece, I found free sheet music for it on SheetMusicFox DOT com and absolutely love it!

  • go to sheetmusicplus dot com

i ordered the entire of Joplin's rags from there. Great book I highly recommend it. My fav is Maple Leaf

  • very talented! one of my favorite joplin rags. truely remarkable classic! keep it up and you could win a crowd in no time! (:

  • Good work needs a lil tidying up slowing down in places and odd wrong notes other wise very good bud

  • I love the last part of this song

  • ahhhh freakin Beautiful! do you have the Sheet for this? Man this looks like the type of piece you just have fun playing. i gota learn this.

  • Yes I do have the sheet. I can send to your email

  • good job, keep it up.

  • its either "fruit" rag or "plant/tree" rag....yep...thats scott.....nice job there played well

  • Congratulations, you have both taste and talent

  • thanks!!

  • Joplin is amazing, as well as your piano skills. I wish I could play more ragtime, but I'm more of the classical type.

  • that was played really well!! i wish i could play like that...

  • Wow! That is one of my favorite ragtime songs and you played it almost perfectly

  • Wow! this is one of my favorite rags and you did it almost perfectly
