  • im trying to get into uni and it says on the website, Assumed knowledge: basic computer skill commensurate with a bachelor level of study. Requisites: None. So does this mean that i am required to have a bachelor level of study or is it just preferred?

  • @IIZODIIAC no, you just need a basic skill level with computers. the Bachelor's degree comes after you have learned everything you need to know.

  • @hotshot461 thanks for that im still tossing up whether to go or not

  • Yes Ted Price is the man.

  • Too bad that game didn't do so well =/. It kind of makes me want to think these guys represent most of Devry's stories, since they seemed so dedicated and inspired but with the education they had, it just didn't work out. But I really dont want to assume Devry is a bad school

  • @bestieswithtesties Making a game is difficult no matter where your education comes from.

  • @theshadowfan Oh, I know. But a lot of my friends make games on pre-made engines like source and unreal 3 and they have no education' but their games are still a lot of fun. The game made by these guys did really bad and they have an education, so it just worries me =/

  • @bestieswithtesties There's a difference between modding a game and starting from scratch.

  • @theshadowfan Again, I know. But the only difference is the engine. Their game didn't fail because of the engine, they could have used a pre-made engine and made the same game and it would do the same in the market. And I didn't say anything about modding, modding is modifying what the game gives you into something new. I meant just using the engine' but they still make their own models and write their own code and etc.

  • @theshadowfan I was wondering how can i get my invested money back? i dont want to go to school and ended up where I started, u know what i mean... pls help

  • @theshadowfan Exactly! Right. You cannot blame a school for a failed title. and really the title didnt fail. it just didnt have the right marketing. Im pretty sure these guy got picked up by a company after they created that game. Devry goes beyond just teaching you to program. They dont represent most devry stories. Most students are trying to work for a company after school where as these guy thought bigger and created their own company. Epic games were really small wen they started. Jazz Jack

  • I am a junior in High School and my fream job is to become a video game designer and I have been looking for colleges latley. DeVry has gotten my attention and I hope I make it there one day and I can't wait until I make my own game! Thank you so much for the information and best of luck on your future games!

  • Ted price ftw

  • I seriously am going to attend this program online-at Devry of coarse :D Thank you!!

  • I plan on starting at Devry Bethesda campus in sept :)

  • this is a nice informational video for devry to let people see what schooling really can do for the mind. Im a devry student right now for gsp and I do it all online. The classes are fun and the time so far is great im on my third class and have already made my on 16 bit video games

  • wow that dude TALKS lol, did you notice he just threw in an entire conversation without even being asked? "Who we look up to"

  • I'm currently attending DeVry and this really gets me excited about what I can accomplish if I put in the work.

  • i reeaaallly want to go to devry in arlington, VA this fall, but.....its all about the money right.....i feel my dreams are fading away everyday...

  • This is where I want to see myself two or three years from now.

  • Hopfully someone replies t othis, not seeing allot of activity here at the moment.

But what all does this course cover? (Game Simulation Programming).

My goal is to be a designer, (I know I need more knowlege in specific areas and so on). I just want to know if this would be a good major and so on to do for the goal, or is it more leaned towards that of a programmers role in the team.

  • I start Game Simulation Programming (GSP) at Devry in 5 weeks.

the GSP course covers Design, Programing, Software Developing and others. The course is 3 years long, it pretty much covers more around the programmers, but also has its part of teaching things you will need to know about designing.

  • When you start, post something on here, I'd like to know how it is.

  • How hard was it to get in? How much will it cost? I'm a Sophomore in High School as of now, I was considering going to MIT but it's too expensive and I don't think they do games really, lol. Devry might be my thing. I still got time to decide.

I hope to have a 3.5-3.8 GPA by the end of High School. Is this good enough?

  • Not pretty hard, just had to go to an interview and they ask you questions. The GSP course cost aroun $26,600 a year. 3.5-3.8 is good my grades are around there.

Hope you're good at Algebra, GSP is mostly Algebra and computers. *whispers* I hate Algebra

  • I'm terrible at Math. I guess my future isn't in computers?

Which sucks, because that means I'm good at literally nothing.

  • Dude, just go for it! I'm not good at all when it comes to math (Especially Algebra). I'll just study my ass off until I get the hang of it. You take a placement test in Algebra to see what level you are in, depending on your test is where you will be put in Algebra. Well, I say you should go for it, study Algebra and just get better at it. I''m sure you will do fine.

  • Actually you need to know Calculus for the GSP program :s

I got up to Algebra 2 in highschool, so i'm not too far behind from where we should be. Also, i'm starting GSP this January :)

  • True, I'm not really good at math. So I'm practicing a whole lot. I am already in my forth week at Devry, its really cool and fun. Where are you going?

  • I go to the one in San Diego. I wouldn't call it a campus, its more like 5 rooms on 1 floor of a building.

  • Yeah i like it, its a small environment which gives you more 1 on 1 with your teachers.

  • @evillink33 that stinks, calculus???? ugh, I have no desire to take Calculus....

  • @AsiasDad Actually they give you a placement test. They just don't throw you into classes too hard for you. :)

  • Im starting the Game Simulation Programming program at the end of this month i cant wait!!

  • hey whats your devry email? and i am going to devry end of this year and am deciding between GSP or computer engineering

  • im starting fall to cant wait

  • whats your devry email/IM

  • I hope to start this fall

  • i heard that you can take classes in second Life....' You can create a 3D Figure...and take the course through the virtual world, if you don't have time to go all the way to school.... Not too many Universities offer classes in "second Life" its not just online classes.. is a unique 3D Virtual world which you actually go to class virtually, sit down, and actually hear your teacher and other students around you.. Virtually.. Harvard University offers this as well.

  • thats fucking awesome!

  • iM starting at DeVry July 6th.....my major is EET (Elctronics Engineer Technology).. i got a schoolarship, and Student Aid..so out of $8,000 per semester (which is every 3 months), i only need to take out a student loan for the Remaining 2,000, which can add up to 8,000 per year... better than having to pay full tuition at $22,000....

  • how did you get it down to only paying 2000 a semester?

  • I applied for the FAFSA.. federal aid.... Then i went to the actual campus with my parents and talked to financial advisors.. which can help you get financial aid... and you also apply for either a Parent Plus loan with your parents or a Student loan with just yourself. and IF THE BANK DENIES YOU.. DeVry is willing to give you 1,000 towards your tuition FREE.. which is pretty sweet.. I recommend you set up a meeting with DeVry Finance and see were you stand...Good LuCk...

  • who did?

  • i just got back from my DeVry Orientation, located in Virginia.. im a Maryland Resident, but the main campus is in Virginia... It was a great experience, you get to see the class room you will be studing in, DeVry has Sate of the art equipment, and you can have a flexible schdule.. as you wish to do so... DeVry can get you a Job on Campus of help you find one within the first term.....one more thing.. 93% of all students ACTUALLY Graduate...which is verry high....

  • Ill be blunt - Faramix is running a scam. I worked as one of the artists for CellZenith, and I have not been compensated for my work. Michael Dehen, the co-owner of Faramix, has admitted to me that he blocked all contact with everyone involved in the project, and that he wasnt planning on paying anyone. Further emails I sent regarding payment have yet to be answered. This company is running a scam and I will do whatever I can to inform everyone involved in what they have done.

  • I simply cannot give CellZenith my recommendation. It can be somewhat fun as a free-to- download game, but it's definitely not worth $15 to $20. Sure, the development studio didn't have that much a budget to work with, but it doesn't negate the fact that CellZenith feels like a cheap game overall. While the story's premise is cute, the narrative doesn't persistently engage you. In the end you're left with a rather boring and lackluster experience.

  • Yeah I plan on going sometime this year, I just filled out my FAFSA for this and next school year. for anyone who needs it the default DeVry Federal School code is: 010727. PEACE! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

  • im about to go into Devry here in Miami :P just for info for those who seek it you dont ONLY need to learn C++ , there is also Java , Visual Studio and much more but C++ is the main one

  • im trying to get in to this right now but my main problem is math i have to work on that 1st i cant wait

  • arty i know your ass dont want to make shooters... like in 3:08

  • I really want to go to DeVry i live in cranbrook Bc, and do you know the requirment classes i need to do in high school to go there??

  • take computer science and buy alot of C++ books it really helps

  • I started at devry after only taking basic programming in high school you'll learn it all while your there but you have to take all the same classes as any college as well as your core game design classes. To answer your question there are no required classes. I got out of high school and got my G.E.D and immediately started with devry and it is a great experience. I dont recommend that it was just circumstancial for me.

  • This is pretty sweet! I would love to see some statistics on how many DeVry graduates make it into Game Development. I'm currently a high school student and I'm already trying to learn C++ programing on my own, and I'm working with 3DStuioMax along with learning Maya. Thanks for the Vid!

  • You're welcome!

  • i graduated from DeVry with an associate in electronics and i can tell you that if you're really interested in getting into the video game industry do not go to DeVry. they like to put out a lot of cool commercials and say that they're respected in whatever field they're currently pimping but it's all BS. you'll do better to go to an actual university instead of wasting the huge amount of money they charge per credit hour. just to find out no on will hire you.

  • If you don't think DeVry is good for high school students wanting to be game developers, which ones do you recommend?

  • my son was planning on going to devry but i read what you said and I am not sure any more

  • a persons education is too important to skimp on. since this started about game programming i'll stick with that. ask yourself what happens when you burn out. or if the industry collapses. and don't say it can't because they said the telcom wouldn't either or that entry level jobs wouldn't get sent to india. you need something to fall back on and devry will not give you that. i CS degree from a notable school will. i've been in their classes. i know how they're run.

  • There is also another important thing to considere; when you want to get into the game industry, (from what I've been reading), some in the industry recommend to have a degree in another field as well because you are telling the company that you fought your way through college. They value your degree. I have a bachelors degree in Psychology. I love video game programming and design, and I'm currently learning on my own.. I aggree with fitsallsizes. I think a degree in CS will be a good star.

  • im glad you told me about devry thank you

  • you're welcome

  • thats exactly what im doing right now too at highschool age. I have stuff about maya c++ and visual basic and Blitz which is a nice one to start out with. I think Devry hasa 90.3% hiring rate

  • i would like to be a game designer/programer when i get older

  • wow

  • thats so radical:XD
