I've spoken to the film's creator, and from what he's said, I doubt it will see full release.
I planned on watching the movie to judge for myself it's nature; If it had been a biased, unfair documentary, then I would then boycott it. But I won't just judge it before it's actually released.
The trailer looks... interesting. It seems to emphasize combatting viewpoints. We won't know until it's out, and to pre-judge it would be as bad as the politicians prejudging gamers as crazy murderers.
Yeah, I gotta admit, I have been being biased one the gamer side of the matter. I instantly thought, "This is bullshit, what the fuck is that asshole Thompson up to now?" But fair is fair, if this is an unbiased documentary, then, like you said, I shall walk away. So im gonna sit my ass down and watch it, and like you said, determine my opinion afterwards. But, I am expected to be disgusted. Now the question is, how much controversy will it cause?
yes, i will watch that movie, i mean jeez why wouldnt i, and yes, we will judge with well discretion and critical thought. you are a very good and smart person, to talk about these people who make biases against video games. thank you
thank you for being mature and serious about this. jack thompson, on the other hand, im sure will be like trying hard and complaining about the facts he probably took only a bit of information from and exploited it like from the interviews he did on news
i support you and your right a documentary should not be biased if it happens o be biased it should be boycotted and removes, im concerned that JT is shown commenting he is a well know critic of games who frequently insults us such as saying we are not normal people he has even said we arnt evrn sentient-beings why is the likes of him doing in a surposed non-biased movie
How can you be claiming to be giving this movie an even shot yet at the same time heavily imply that it wont be? Making banners, placards and petitions before going to see it is not very open minded.
Why is no one else seeing the hypocrisy of condemning a film for being one sided and biased when you haven't even seen it?
When the trailer itself states that video games were used in committing the 9/11 terror attacks, how can we not take them at their words?
Also, I stated "materials." Not the finished products themselves. As well, I was thinking that we would be going to see it, and giving it more of a chance than the simple ignorant assumptions made by the politicians.
The trailer is biased. Watch it and then ask about bias.
Fair enough, if you want to walk around carrying paint and large sheets of cardboard that's your business.
I had seen the trailer, it made me want to see the rest of the film, and that was its purpose don't you think?
Movie Trailers are designed to make people watch the movie, it stands to reason that its going to contain all the material that's going to make the public take notice,
it's manipulative I'll agree, but no more than any Video Game filling its trailer with explosions and gun fights in order to hook the player.
The trailer it's self is not aimed at video game players, it's aimed at a non-game playing demographic like teachers or parents who are worried about video game violence but don't know how to approach the subject, once again its an underhand marketing trick to scaremonger views and I'm not condoning it,
but its really nothing more than that, an under hand marketing trick and not really deserving of all the bile its generated.
Who cares that people who have seen the film have praised it for being fair and even handed on both sides of the argument when Zack who's 15 says "this film sux!!!1 Jack Thompson is a noob lolol!!!1 omg!!!"
Basically we won't be them. We'll see facts, and if the is bs facts, then it is...well; bs. However, it has been stated that it will be doing it's best to show both sides and is actually made for concerning parents.
But I am all for RATING SYSTEM!! JUST LIKE MOVIES!!! AND MUSIC!!!! These politicians need to spend our tax dollers. So Fuck these people I would gladly go in front of our courts and say that I am gamer and I enjoy a good game.
Fun kid like, mature rated or or sports. You don't see kids playen cooking mama grabing a knife and start to cut up carrots n crap. Or a kid running out to help an old lady across the street.
Do you see that? NO! Its just politicians way of finding blame on some thing for the parenets (like them selfs) for not directing (or TEACHING) your own children right from wrong. So Lets just boy-cott them! Don't vote for these people in office. Don't watch this STUPID movie and pointless banter on this topic.
so supposivly the computer game that has made the most impact on society thus far according to moral kombat is the flight simulator 'responsible' for 9/11? is it just me or was flight sim the most child friendly game ever? we need to dig at this guys motivations and expose him. and another thing, how can a government responsible for sending real people into iraq and to butcher real innocents and bomb real houses call us dangerous to the world?
ppl always blame something 4 kids who get bullied in school then they shoot it up they blame marlin manson rock and roll and now games??!!!! Y THE FUCK CANT PARENTS ACCEPT THEIR RESPONSABILITY AND RAISE TRHERE KIDS IT IS NO ONES FAULT. THE ONLY PPL WE CAN BLAME ARE ARE OURSELFS FOR LETTING 12 YEAR OLDS PLAY DOOM III SO DONT JUDGE US JUDGE UR SELF B4!!!!!!
i heard that the docunentary is actually trying to defend the video game industry but the trailer made it seem biased. from what i've heard. not trying to defend thompson or anything btw i actually dont like him and i dont know why any one would
I agree with you that we should watch it before passing judgment however odds are it will be unfair and we will have actually put money into the pockets of the idiots who made it. I would ask mr halpin to release a select few copies to various gamer websites (GP for example)who's owners can judge the material and then tell us if it is fair or not. (if halpin refuses to do that then i sudgest just plain old protesting without watching it,id rather look like a fool than give one my money)
I'm gonna make another reply to this. Moral Kombat has been shot down. Completely. It's been months since the trailer. Is the documentary coming out or not? It should be recalled, but I'll watch it and be the asshole to laugh in the theatres.
Joe I agree with you but really there is NO way that this documentary will be fair. This is a case where a few naive, ignorant and polemic fools get together with a newbie freelance director and a cheap hand held camera to try to gain publicity ala Michael Moore. DO NOT GIVE HIM ANY OF YOUR MONEY. He is playing on the fact that the majority of enraged gamers will watch this film to criticize him. Maybe its worth a DL if you want to see him slandering "Over half of America".
Good point. Perhaps we could select a panel, a group of 20-30 gamers to hit the theatre and see if the movie is anything but hack film trying to make a scapegoat of gamers.
Even if it's not fair, we must judge it fairly. Show that we the gamers are more fair and understanding than those who paint us as crazy, as lunatics, madmen and killers.
If they release Moral Kombat, I think its only fair we (gamers in general) should be allowed to release a film slating Jack Thompson for an hour and a half. ;)
Hm... intriguing. We'd cover off the most disgusting things he's done, and show him as the beast he really is. Mocking a community in mourning after a friend's suicide...
The only issue with any form of protest against Moral Kombat however is that even a peaceful boycott would still ultimately be branded as the result of computer games in some manner, with people like Jack Thompson arguing that we were inspired to protest because of subliminal content in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. ;)
Hm... Still, if we view it first, and we judge it fairly, then there is a 50/50 chance that there will be no boycott. However, in the event of one, it will simply be due to the fact that Games are being blamed for the problems of society, with no thought towards fact, other than the fact that a scapegoat is needed.
What I am going to say will most likly get me flammed, but I'll say it anyway...
This is Jack Thompson preaching to us for an hour or more about why videogames caused all the world's problems (Including WWII) and why they should be banned.
They don't want to get to the real, actual problem, but just find scapegoats. These problems they're afraid of will not stop with video games, movies, rap, and any other form of media which will face being a scapegoat.
Several of the organizations he has mentioned have told him not to use their names anymore, due to his negative influence to these organization's reputations.
I play Resident Evil, Halo, Gears of war, Red Orchestricia, and SWAT4. Red Orchestracia is a VERY little known but incredibly viloent game. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A FIGHT i am also anti-social, and I have a 90 GPA. I do not like war at all. ANd Im against the war in Iraq. So does Mr. Thompson make any sence?
P.S. I have been playing Halo sence age 12 im now age 14 and NEVER BEEN IN A FIGHT
Scary music effects. lol That always makes me think of the Simpsons episode where Homer is accused of sexual harassment and Willie gets him off the hook with his "amateur video". At the end of the episode, Willie is getting lambasted by that Current Affair-like show and Homer falls for the "evil" music they're playing in the background; excellent commentary on how ridiculous yet strangely effective that trick is.

Hi Joe!!! I like your video, I think you're 100% correct, we shouldn't all be catagorized. Even the movie title makes it seem biased though. Have a good one.
By honest and fair, I mean both sides of the argument. It's easy to win, if the other person is gagged and muzzled. It's like challenging a parapalegic to a footrace.
Violent video games aren't that bad. You're brainwashed by ignorant morons. Tell me, have you ever seen any studies about this? If you had, you'd see that violence, criminal activity, and other vices have dropped, rather than rise. More and more with each console and game.
ultimately the responsibility falls to the parents, most parents are logical enough to say hey an "M" rating isn't appropriate for my 5-13 yeah old child; of course, you don't see playboy censoring it's magazines do you, why should video games be any different?
So are violent books. Violent movies. Violence in the News. Violence is everywhere. If we took violent crimes, violence, and crime rates through history, and apply them to modern day populations, you'd be shocked.
No non-violent video games? Hmm... Most of the puzzle Genre, Harvest Moon, Legend of the River King, Sports games... need I go on?
