I think myself privileged to be a friend of Robin's. He is a fabulous classical guitarist and a lovely person. His family, made up of wife, Anna and two sons Oliver and Felix, are equally lovely people. He is a great composer and musician.
I met Robin in the early 70's, I was a child and he dated my sister for a while. I know that this guy practiced daily. Eight hours a day, every day. He has being doing this for over thirty years and it has taken this long to get where he is today. Fancy marketing might work for your latest generation of talentless reality TV wannabees. For the more discerning musical palate, lifelong dedication and rare talent are the only things that will get you noticed.
Amazing how everything today is about marketing. The guy can play, I won't say that he is incompetent...but I probably know hundreds that can play better that will never become this succesful...I guesss it is like that in many things in the world
I will agree that there are many great performers but when it comes to writing music Robin Hill has a gift. Just listen to his canzone fpr two guitars.
Thanks! I guess I probably didn't catch his right hand strokes very clearly then. I've ordered Guitar Gymnasium recently and I'm looking forward to using it to improve myself too. Once again, thanks for the reply.
could ya get shorter url? I have watch that whole video again (not that i'm complaining ;) just to pause it to get that URL...great stuff tho...sign me up
Thanks for your comment. I can't post the URL in a comment (as YouTube seems to remove these), but if you look in the description for the video you will find a number of URLs relating to Robin and his work... including where you can now purchase & download tracks online. You may need to click on (more) to expand the description to see them all. Thanks
There seems to be a lot of interest in Robin's right hand technique. I know that he spends many hours doing right and left hand exercises every day. He has written some exercises to specifically work on those areas which are in the book 'The Guitar Gymnasium' published by Mel Bay. If you want to ask a specific question I'll pass it on to him and get back to you.
Please let him know that he's great. And it's nice that his repetoire not only includes the conventional classical guitarist list. I personally love his De Falla's Ritual Fire Dance duet. 2 questions if possible.
1. I noticed he doesn't use combined stroke for right hand (ie. no use of rest strokes for emphasis). If so, how does he achieve maximum colour and voicings?
Hi Jeff... I'm a friend and fan of Robin's and have posted the video on his behalf. I'll be in touch with him tomorrow and pass on your kind messages and request.

Hi EnSkai,
Many thanks for your comments Robin was very pleased when I told him.
In answer to your questions, the guitar he uses is a Miguel Rodriguez, a very powerful and beautiful instrument.
As a general rule Robin does use a lot of rest strokes. Are you referring to the Ritual Fire Dance specifically or his playing in general?
Also thanks for referring people to 'life of a musician'!

Robin is delighted with all these comments. It is very nice to hear from people that appreciate all the hours of practice he does. Enjoy.
