Leachman's acting when she samples the pie herself is one of the best pieces of acting in television history! Thanks for posting this classic episode!
@PeterFormaini It was indeed brilliant. That's Cloris for you. I had the good fortune of meeting her a few years back. She had me laughing my @zz off with her incredible sense of humor.
@bartwestla Cloris is what my Mom used to call a 'Bingo Ball Broad" - meaning you never knew what you were going to get when you drew her out of the bin, but whatever it was, it was gonna help you win in whatever endeavor you were involved in. :D Definitely an unpredictable and 1-of-a-kind lady. I wish I could meet her. The very definition of a 'free spirit'.
The sequence where Mary gives Sue Ann a telling off was the best verbal smackdown she EVER gave to someone during the seven years the show was on the air. The fact that she was able to do it without screaming, getting angry or becoming abusive was even better.
This story (which opened the fourth season) also serves as a great introduction for Betty White who would become a memorable and important part of the series for the rest of it's run.
A sitcom at the peak of its powers. The cast, directors, and writing staff were all at their best. Season 3 was great but season 4 - which this episode was the premiere of - was the pinnacle.

Woohooboy is dead-on the mark; the favorite part of the whole series for me between 10:30 and 12:04 of this video. Brilliant. Go Mary...and Phyllis!
...and don't forget between 8:30 and 10:30 in the video as well

Cloris Leachman is so good. I wonder if recent generations have any idea.
""Phyllus yarka sloota..." ... apparently that's all over, now."

The show got a lot better when the focus shifted from Mary's apartment to the newsroom.

I totally agree that season 4 was the pinnacle, no doubt.

It was also smart because Sue Ann and Georgette would have to "replace" Rhoda who would leave at the end of the season.
