absolutely beautiful! im just now looking into landscape architecture as a career path but im not good at drawing :/ thats the only thing holding me back
@thinkblue1005 you shouldn't let that hold you back. There are lots of ways to learn. If you are passionate about landscape architecture, just go for it.
@thinkblue1005 I agree with Kingbird, if you like everything else about it definitely don't let drawing hold you back. Especially if you pick the right school/program you'll spend a lot of time being taught how, practicing, and developing your drawing abilities no matter how good you are when you start. For example, I'm at Ball State University and they do a great job at this. I've seen people who struggled to draw stick figures back when my class first started turn out gorgeous drawings.
Lovely design. I like how you colored it. I'm in the first grade of a garden/landschape design training now. Wish my drawings were just as nice as yours. Guess I should just keep practicing. Any tips how to make such nice drawings?
@J0hanPG Thank you! You're right, practice is the best tool. The only quick tip I can think of is to use lots of subtle layers of color. The more layers you use, the deeper the image.
@littlefuzzer Sorry, I don't know of any specific AutoCad workshops and I don't have any experience with Dynascape so I can't comment on that. I would be interested in any reviews/critiques you may have.
How did you learn to color so well?I'm a Landscape Architecture student and I was told that my symbol drawing was some of the best my professors have sen..but it gets killed with my coloring( I don't make the plan pop).Is it marker and colored pencils? ..do I have to use lighter colors?
@littlefuzzer Thank you! Yes, it is colored pencil and very light marker on bond paper. I took much of my technique from a workshop taught by Mike Lin, ASLA. He is very good at presenting a few tricks to cover very basic principles of rendering and color theory. Our student chapter of ASLA arranged to bring him out to our school. You might try to get that ball rolling. Or you could pick up his book, Drawing and Designing with Confidence. You should get the book either way, it's good inspiration
I feel the biggest key is to use lots of different colors layered lightly on top of each other. All the plants in this rendering have at least 3 different color layers in them. The bigger ones have 5 or more. That gives the plan a greater depth and lends realism.
@KingbirdDesign Where are you a student? Or are you a teacher?I am actually a grad student at Cornell and got my undergrad at Rutgers. We really did not go over coloring or texturizing. It seems to be a dying art to make plans just have that 3 dimentional effect,Anyway..thanks for the tips..much appreciated
@littlefuzzer I graduated with my undergrad from Utah State University in 2008. I operate my own small design firm, Kingbird Design here in Salt Lake City.
@daumite Thanks for keeping me in line. Have you had a chance to view our Time Lapse Barbecue Smoker video? That is the one I was referring to. Check it out on our channel, Kingbird Design. We are planning more in the future as well.
@erikalynnsorensen Thank you! My favorite book on landscape architecture drawing is Drawing and Designing with Confidence by Mike W. Lin, ASLA. It has great examples for inspiration and some decent instruction. A more simple approach is found in Landscape Graphics by Grant W. Reid, FASLA.
Thanks again and check back as we will be posting more video soon.
Thank you, everyone, for your kind comments.

I agree, good renderings are often undervalued.
