its amazing how they can't accuratly predict the weather for next week. they think they are accuratley predicting what the earth is going to look like millions of years into the future! although i must say there animal designs for the specific habitats are truely facinating
@I3rigand If we lived for another 5 million years there would probably wouldnt be any intresting animals we would probably have killed off all the mega fauna except for things we keep in zoo's/ parks etc but they would be the same as now as there wouldn't be enough variety for any proper evolution, there would most likely only be things which can adapt to urban life like foxes or rats etc not very interesting

I think it's annoying how people are always saying humans are the dominant species. In nature, out hunting other creatures makes you dominant. Hiding away from the carnivores in cities and blocking yourself from nature is not. If a bug that disguises itself to look exactly like a leaf hid from a tiger and could out smart it that doesn't mean its should feel smug like it's higher on the food chain. No tiger or lion fears us or sees humans as a danger or To them we're a pink, squishy, easy meal.
What a load of crap! This earth is not Billions of years old, Evolution is a theory, NOT FACT,
GOD created this world in six days, even if you don't believe it it does it fact! even if i believe it does not make it fact.
And who is around alive to day to say how old this earth is.
But your common sense should realise that nothing can create it's self, DO not tell me that a blob of goo decided over a few thousand years to make it self into the animales and people around us today!
@tophampaul Did the Goo say ok I'm going to become an thing and crawl around in a damp underground cave try and meet up with another one, try not to die of old age whilst waiting billions of years so i can breed.
@tophampaul Oh and I won't have hair or feathers, or eyes I don't need to see! maybe I will later.
Oh and I wont need hands or arms, but maybe I will later.
I will think about it over the next few billions of years, maybe later I will have a brain so I can think about having lots of internal organs so i will become a human wow I'm so cleaver.
@tophampaul No one has ever argued that a blob of "goo" ever "decided" anything. If you are going to argue against evolution, atleast take the time to understand what it is you don't believe in. I guess you don't believe in gravitational theory, or the heliocentric theory of the solar system too huh?
And as for dating the Earth, modern geological methods are pretty good at bracketing the age of both the Earth and our solar system at 4.6 Ga.
@XtalQRP Evolution isn't an organism changing. Just telling you. I'm not telling you your beliefs are wrong, but that isn't what evolution is. Evolution can be witnessed happening today, in dogs and cats. We created dog breeds through evolution. All evolution is, is two animals surviving to breeding age because they have what it takes to survive. Their child will then have their superior genes. If a fox with big ears and another breed, their kids will likely also have big ears.
@DarcyRyder2010 Evolution is the creation (empathise on the word creation) of new information, somthing not witnessed, while mutations and the subsequent natural selection process are and are responsible for new species arising. Evolution is not somthing that can or can not be proved or disproved, and will probably not go away for quite some time to come.
@DarcyRyder2010 it that was not possible to make with simple reconfiguring of the available blocks. You can have three colors and make 57 million combinations, however you are always restricted to those combinations- however vast. The arising of new species is not evolution, but mutations in the code of information, 99% of what are fatal and not passed on as the creature dies before it has the chance.
I'm quite thankful that Youtube hasn't taken this down. I know how they can be about videos that are...you know, owned by other companies. I think the BBC realizes that it's good advertisement for them.

@arafel1964 I heard a sequel will come out soon, like around 2012 or 2013. The ages will be 300,500, and 750 I'm pretty sure. What could happen? Cephalopodic humans???

Your sentence "On 3 dvds is shown how the world will look in 5,100 and 200 million years from now.", the placement of the comma makes it look like you are saying the series will cover what the world will look like in five thousand one hundred years, and then 200 million years. So, even though the comma placement is grammatically correct, it'd look clearer if you wrote it 5mil, 10mil, and 200 million years. Or something similar.
the sun will explode in 5 billion years, mercury venus and earth all will get sucked in to the suns gravitational pull and be engulfed in 5500 degree heat destorying the earth
@ColdSideOfPillow136 Well, since octopi and squids and other cephalopods are such smart animals (for undersea creatures, at least), and if primates were to go extinct, scientists believe that cephalopods will be the ones to become the next human. Go figure.
While this is an awesome documentary, I feel like it suffers a bit from a lack of imagination. Considering that dinosaurs, in all their varied form and splendor, evolved from a single ancestor (the same can be said of mammals), I feel like these animals play it a bit too safe.

@phillyP84 nice thought but if the earth doesn't want us here, we're gone. Now, it's fair to say that humans are INCREDIBLY adaptive and are likely to survive climate change that most animals wouldn't. But would we survive the loss of those animals?
We're only as tough as our surroundings allow us to be. That's how evolution works.
@wizzzer1337 Or nature's greatest accomplishment. Don't you see that humans have accomplished tons of stuff ever since the first cave-man picked up a stick and attatched a rock to it.
I remember when this was one long documentary instead of a TV show with I think a different announcer. I remember watching it on Animal Planet. Why is it that when I search for the original all I find is the episodic version with a weird ass announcer?
To whom they say they don't believe in evolution: Ladies and gentlemen, it is like saying you don't believe in gravity. Guess what the world is carrying on without you, whether you believe it or not. If you have a religious believes, for sure you won't accept any new idea that cannot be adopted by your old believes. You eventually adopted that the earth revolving around the sun, please try to put this one to your head too.
@tubingkindly I have religious beliefs and i believe in evolution. The world evolves every day, i just dont believe in that "big bang theory" and that i evolved from a monkey.

@tubingkindly I have religious beliefs but i also believe in evolution, those two ideas dont go against each other. what i dont believe in is the big bang theory and that i evolved from a monkey.
"If you had never seen a rhinosaurus, could you have drawn one?"
It makes me wonder if perhaps dragons really did exist somewhere sometime, because it would take a huge imagination to draw something like that without ever seeing one.
Intro is boring...I don't know whether or not this is the dvd version. I hated the dvd version, and wish I hadn't wasted money on it. I should have just recorded the show on Animal Planet.
@xerke there are meny ways becuse we are a wery sensitive speci (dont now how to speel it) if a supervolcano explodes we will probaly die or if just a small comet hit us we will all die and we are maybe soon going to die becuse of global warming meny places will come under water and the will wars becuse we will have wars and then we are maybe going to kill ourself if we begins to shoot nuclear missils becuse if only one country starts whit then every country will begin
This is a cool show and I love to watch it but I just don't know how a scientist could possibly predict how something as complicated as evolution, adaption, or even just selective breeding will turn out millions of years from now!
Evolution is change through time. Micro evolution is well accepted now, that is the small scale evolutionary changes that happen often within a population. Normally these are just changes due to "selection" by the environment, those best able to survive will be able to reproduce and pass on their genes.
well hmm... we are towards the end of our interglacial period(according to this program) so whats so bad about global warming if its just going to be counter acted by the earths natural cycles...?
the next ice age will arrive in thousands of years, manmade global warming can make the planet unsustainable for human life within 70-80 years. don't worry nature will deal with us and select us for extinction if we are deemed a threat
let's hope nature included us in its grand equation
Anyone know of another one of these multi-part mini series that is coming out any time soon? I noticed that at a time there were a lot of these types of shows (this, alien planet, etc.) but recently there haven't been any =(
I don't think theres any. It would be great to have another series LIKE this (dealing with speculative evolution) but it shouldn't be so unscientific. Future is Wild dealt more with "What would look cool" rather than what was plausible.
thanx for posting this vid. I looked for it back about 18 months ago and never found it so it's great to see it up here. (yes i even looked to buy the series but could never find it).
@MrPIROCAS ; I would not call this an evolution but a monster just like those chickens bred and raised for food from whom many who can't carry their weight , the same is for this so called 'man made evolution'. Man is not capable of creating evolution only for destruction and creating monsters as a copy of true evolution.
arafel: Actually one could argue that man can cause evolution simply by existing.
I'm not a big believer in evolution but you are mistaking evolution for selective breeding. One can breed lots of animals in order to mix genes but very rarely would such a thing happen in the natural course of things.
@wormer105 ; mrPirocas said something about man made evolution. I don't think man is capable for true evolution because in the example of the supercow it's a result of breeding. I see evolution occur more in, like you said, the natural course of things.

I wish there was a documentary about how life evolves in 5 million yaes around man.
Partially because I think it would be interesting to see what kinds of new species they predict might appear.
But also because I think we'll still be around 200 million years from now :p

Strange, I could've sworn this show had an American narrator.

earth sucks when humans are around... we might just be natures greatest failure.

@wizzzer1337 Or nature's greatest accomplishment. Don't you see that humans have accomplished tons of stuff ever since the first cave-man picked up a stick and attatched a rock to it.

They got the enviroments of the future right. The future animals, however, are NOT going to evolve.

@TreeHandThing why do you say that? I'm not making fun of you, I just want to know your reasons for why you believe in such.

This is a cool show and I love to watch it but I just don't know how a scientist could possibly predict how something as complicated as evolution, adaption, or even just selective breeding will turn out millions of years from now!
lettertree11 1 year ago
Evolution is change through time. Micro evolution is well accepted now, that is the small scale evolutionary changes that happen often within a population. Normally these are just changes due to "selection" by the environment, those best able to survive will be able to reproduce and pass on their genes.

well hmm... we are towards the end of our interglacial period(according to this program) so whats so bad about global warming if its just going to be counter acted by the earths natural cycles...?
evilwatermelon 1 year ago
@evilwatermelon
the next ice age will arrive in thousands of years, manmade global warming can make the planet unsustainable for human life within 70-80 years. don't worry nature will deal with us and select us for extinction if we are deemed a threat
let's hope nature included us in its grand equation

Anyone know of another one of these multi-part mini series that is coming out any time soon? I noticed that at a time there were a lot of these types of shows (this, alien planet, etc.) but recently there haven't been any =(
raiderodeath123 2 years ago
@raiderodeath123

"Evolution happening now."
Not really, let's face it the world will not evolve for there is no need for it.
beeber2 2 years ago
you can search the internet "muscle cow" "big cows" and you will see some evolution made by man
MrPIROCAS 2 years ago
@MrPIROCAS ; I would not call this an evolution but a monster just like those chickens bred and raised for food from whom many who can't carry their weight , the same is for this so called 'man made evolution'. Man is not capable of creating evolution only for destruction and creating monsters as a copy of true evolution.
arafel1964 2 years ago
*shudder The super cow gives me the creeps.
beeber2 2 years ago
is evolution to a monster, calling that evolution dont mean that is a good thing or i like it
Dogs, dogs is an evolution from wolfs
Cows are an evolution from auroque (extint)
You understand my point of view?
MrPIROCAS 2 years ago 2
arafel: Actually one could argue that man can cause evolution simply by existing.
I'm not a big believer in evolution but you are mistaking evolution for selective breeding. One can breed lots of animals in order to mix genes but very rarely would such a thing happen in the natural course of things.
wormer105 2 years ago 3
@wormer105 ; mrPirocas said something about man made evolution. I don't think man is capable for true evolution because in the example of the supercow it's a result of breeding. I see evolution occur more in, like you said, the natural course of things.
