Never mind that we had rejected Japans offer to surrender, not once but three times. Americans had jobs, and we know a working American is a consuming American, and therefore a happy American.
Just look at ConservativeTimes, you know they are a happy American, because you can see they are a Consuming American (even if it's 'crap' consumption). Just imagine if we hadn't dropped and ConservativeTimes had to accept a surrender under fair terms.
All this effect and money so to kill people on a grand scale, is it just me, but couldn't we find a better use of our time and resources for example find new fuel sources. And before you say something like "It ended the War" the people who built the bomb said that.
Daddy-o that was a fizz-bang shot in the arm for Lady Liberty! Now our boys can come home and do the chattanooga with their doll and head out to the ol' lumber yard and see Mickey Manttle and eat some Cracker Jacks!
Yeah Propaganda films! And to think, We condemed Hittler for creating the same things...
and a greater man would realise how wrong it was to kill hundreds of thousands of of inosent people and chose not to do it so i say shame on you Truman and burn in hell
Dude, that war had to end. The Nazis had already surrendered and Truman gave the Japs every chance to do the same and they refused. The civilian deaths are on the hands of the Japanese leaders....not Truman's.
the japanese were willing to surrender so long as the emperor would be safe. the U.S. was selfish and did not allow any leeway. the bottom line is he knew it would kill many inosent civilians. besides Japan could have easily been taken over, they were crippled.
The emperor system was offered to the Japanese on 26 July and they did in fact reject. But Truman's "rain of ruin" speech hardly counts as a nuclear warning. Shorly afterwards Truman failed to check his nuclear supremos and they gave away the secret to the USSR.
@KennethKaniffFromCT Actually this is a big point of dispute even today, the Japanese war effort was seriously waning (kamakazi attacks are one example of their desperation) and many believe that it was instead done as a way of demonstrating our weaponry to the Russians as we began to enter the cold war.
@itsatrap1989 Sorry, but you simply do not understand what youre talking about. Do you realize how many Japanese would have been killed in an assault on the main islands? Estimates were as high as 20-30 million. About 1.5 million on our side. Truman is the hero here, and the ones butning in hell are the leaders that put the Japanese people in this position..
@KennethKaniffFromCT Yeah Truman had balls. So did General Marshall. If the japs didnt surrender, they had 7 more bombs ready for Nov 1. They were going to drop all 7 on nov.1 on Kyushu. They never had a chance, but its funny that they were still agruing over whether to continue even after nagasaki. The 2 bombs wound up saving about 20 million lives, they did the right thing..
@KennethKaniffFromCT you mean someone like..... OBAMA. imagine if ww2 happend now. he would be sending NATO to aid hitler while sending no no letters to japan for attacking pearl harbor.
its amazing how open they were to building the bomb. What happened to the walls have ears xD

Kudos to Truman. A lesser man wouldn't have the balls to drop the bomb.
