Never had so much fun sitting in front of this thing. :-) Mr. Montgomery, you have a new fan. Keep it coming Mr. Hall, sir. You have my admiration and I'd love to be your session drummer.
What an amazing band! I followed Monty here from "Sara Smiles." and really never heard of T-Bone Wolk. Now I can't imagine him not being there. What a tragedy. He's one amazing musician. I watched him on the other clips, and you don't see him featured much, but without his vocal fills and outstanding rhythm, bass and lead fills all these tunes would have felt empty. Great job overall. It's gonna take days to get through all the Daryl's House stuff, but it will be enjoyable.
Having heard Monte perform this live in Austin many times, it's a blast to watch him working with Daryl live. Absolutely beautiful chemistry and the tune never sounded better.
That was a great combo of great artists. Freaking lights out! I could listen to that song a million times and I think I did my mouse button is a little hot :0
Show`em Monty,Spank there Little Asses!,Hes The Best Q-Stix Player there Is! Give Him a Listen,Hes Stands on His Own Merits and Balls,Yah Hes that Good,...makes real players feel like Lazy Players,.And Ol Daryl,..Shur Dont look his age,and Soundin Good to!I Hope I sound and look that good when Im his age!,...Love All Your Guts! Guys!Keep It Up!
WOW! If Daryl Hall and Van Morrison had a baby, it would be Monte Montgomery! He sings with great soul and he can play the _____ out of that acoustic guitar! This is my first time hearing him. Now I need to go buy one of his CDs right away!
As far as entertainment is concerned, this is sometimes a hinderance. I've gone to Monte shows that I left half way through because I felt that he had shown me all he had too soon. But damn, this is a great venue for him. Just enough of greatness to get my blood boiling and leave me wnating more!
There are a zillion guys/gals that can sing there asses off, but Monte not only sings with originality and soul, he is also among the ABSOLUTE BEST guitarists who ever played the instrument. He is so incredibly fast that you MUST LISTEN very carefully to what he is doing. The phrasing is ALL THERE! At times it may sound like mush, but I've heard the same thing said about John Coltraine. The truth is, he is far above your average ear and he is giving us his best when he plays that guitar.
Damm!! I hope this will spawn a record with these two pros. Even through shitty desk top speakers the tone is amazing! It just goes to show you that overdubs, compression, and all the other shit producers do to fuck up sound is'nt needed. Yeah they are a little raw (it is after all there first time with each other). Great music!! Peace out.
Monte Montgomery is a brilliant guitar player except for one thing - he has no sense of limits. A less fatal flaw, but one that is sometimes annoying, is that he reverts to often played licks that don't always fit the tune, or portion of the tune.
More than a couple of people have disagreed with me on this, and I fully accept the old adage about opinions, but that is mine.
This guy is so very, very good, that its a shame to see such an easily fixable issue, remain.
BTW, go to the LFDH site and listen to Monte on Daryl's tune, "Do It For Love." He doesn't resort to overplaying and stays within the song. The effect is is the brilliance that we have come to know and enjoy, but he doesn't push it too far. There is none of the "musical mush" that he sometimes engages in.
Believe it or not, I am a big fan of Monte's. I wish nothing but the best for him and feel that, if he can recognise this characteristic, he will have no limits to what he can do.
Monte is truly a "Generational Musician", just as Daryl was for my generation ... Im 48...This combination right here is a dramatic and historical birth! Im glad to see my children can now enjoy this blend of the 70's and 80's best, that being Daryl Hall, with this current Generations finest musician I have never seen the likes of until today! Bravo and Muy Bien Hecho Amigos! Thanks for warming my heart and soul on this cold winters day! Best... Dave B
Monte, Monte, Monte! You are one brilliant guitar player .... BUT ...... that canned riff at 4:55 just doesn't get it! You are soooo much better than that. Loose the occasional overplaying and canned riffs that don't fit the tune and you OWN electric/acoustic guitar playing!
Said with much respect and enjoyment of the vast majority of what you do!
And you are without a clue - the lick I'm talking about is one that he does over and over - ie: a "canned lick." Monte is, indeed, a genius and that's why his tendency to overplay and do this sort of thing is such a shame.
BTW, I've performed both on radio and television, plus I made my living for ten years in the music business.
Monte is one Talented young man and DAMN' what a combination!!! I want to know when they are coming to Greensboro, NC!
