he spat the dummy when his cover was blown. he's a comic genius, but he's a bit of a cunt as well. wish he'd stuck to the brilliant parodies and things that didn't involve humiliating and degrading people. the humiliation stuf was never his funniest anyway.
@naraic1020 about what? if you're just talking about him only humiliating media whores, and smug conceited types who deserved it, I've heard it all before, and it's bullshit. he made fools out of people. I don't care who they were, if you can't stand prank humour and degradation, it's just plain ugly, and was never the best use of his great talent, or the funniest bits of his shows. Day Today was miles better than Brass Eye.
@SquishedButterfly I can understand were your coming from about how your not interested in prank humour, but if you dont like it, why are you on this video?
@Matthewkilb Rolf Harris, Jenny Powell etc are guilty of nothing more than wanting to work in TV. That doesn't mean they deserve to be humiliated. Blue Jam, On the Hour, and Day Today were all heaps better than Brass Eye, so there was no need to go that way anyway. he starts attacking Stapleton in a very personal childish name-calling way. Parodying faceless stuff such as the news is okay, but making fools of individuals is ugly, and I think poor use of his talent.
@SquishedButterfly Generally though, I don't think his aim is to attack the people, but to expose the medium in which they work as being shallow and ill-informed, yet claiming authority in so many areas.
If you take a job as a presenter, or agree to be a talking head on a documentary etc etc, then you have a duty to yourself and your viewers to at the very least do some research into what it is you have agreed to do. The fact that Chris Morris can get these people to agree to such ludicrous..
@Matthewkilb my feeling is that there will have been a lot of very normal well dressed well spoken professional peoople with professional equipment behaving very normally prior to the absurd stuff, and this catches people off guard . we only see the edit. I thihk you're being hard on them. And even if someone is gullible, or unpleasant I don't thik that means they deserve to be humiliated. this may sound dramatic but take that kind of thing to the extreme, and what you have is a psychopath.
@SquishedButterfly I don't think I'm being hard at all. We may only see the edit, but at the end of the day these people have still agreed for the utterly absurd statements about ridiculous subjects they have agreed to say to be used by the people filming them. It goes to show that most of these people don't give a fig about anything other than publicity and their own self-image. These are the people that millions of people watch and listen to. If they can be persuaded to spout untruths...
@Matthewkilb he could've continued to use comedy to make all of those serious points without the need to drag real people into it. So all that's left is that he's doing it for their own good to teach them humility, but I don't buy it. Don't think he gives a shit about them. I hate seeing people being made to look foolish while others who are in on the joke sit around cackling. It's low. Justify it as a social awareness raising thing if you like but I think your kidding yourself.
@SquishedButterfly They made themselves look foolish though. Chris Morris just provided the rope that then then hung themselves with. You surely can't deny that.
They didn't take their responsibilities as public figures seriously, and were exposed as attention-seeking, self-promoting idiots, who couldn't even be bothered do the most basic of research into what it was they being asked to promote.
Like it or not, the media figures that Morris ridicules often have as much, if not more, power when it comes to influencing public opinion than politicians do. I think it's safe to say that most people would agree that politicians should take their job seriously, and that they should be well-informed and accountable, so why shouldn't the same be true of those in the media?
@SquishedButterfly ...this easily by someone making a piece of satire, then it brings into doubt the veracity and reliability of anything they say in their roles as presenters. People in their line of work have a duty and a responsibility to their viewers to ensure that the information they are lending authenticity to through their endorsement of it is accurate and not misleading.
Unlike something like Bo Selecta, Brass Eye was not being nasty simply for the sake of being nasty...
@SquishedButterfly ...It may be a comedy, but it addresses serious issues to do with the unquestioned authority of the media, the importance afforded to mediocre celebrity, the denigration of actual expertise in favour of uninformed opinion, and the shallow, self-serving nature of large swathes of the media industry.
You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs. A healthy dose of humiliation is probably what a lot of these people need, and the end result was well worth their discomfort.
@SquishedButterfly ...things (such as campaigning against a drug that has caused a girl to vomit up her own pelvis, or advocating vertical tube farms, or denouncing scientists who are keeping a genetically engineered testicle in a cot) shows up the shallow, publicity-seeking nature of their trade. If any of them had bothered to do a bit of homework they would have worked out that it was a set-up.
At the end of the day, those people are just as responsible for making themselves look foolish.
Didn't anyone used to watch the time place then?? It was Mike Scott first and then John Stapleton took over like here. Everyone knows the theme tune don't they? It used to come on before this morning, and was on the same time as Kilroy on the other channel.
I think morris did a good job here. He reduced the host to desperately talking loudly over him like an attention seeking school boy who considers himself top dog rather than handling the unexpected event in an adult fashion.
The host surely doesn't think lasting for 10 minutes in bed is 'lousy' does he? Unless that includes foreplay as well, in which case yes it's a bit short
Am I the only one who thinks that Morris doesn't "own" Stapleton at all? Look at Morris' reaction at around the 2:24 mark after Stapleton realises he isn't who he says he is. He looks flustered and a bit unprepared for the possibility of being rumbled, and his get-out isn't very convincing.
@bigmacchris It was a pretty good get-out, I thought. And he stuck with it with the book thing, turning it into a proper troll. Above all, are you disputing that the line about the hair isn't a total classic?
Absolutely fantastic - if Chirs Morris was a real expert in any of this we get a taste of the contempt he would have been treated with, and we can see here why - because the presenter is fantastic idiot.
