I'm personally not a fan of much else China Crisis recorded to be honest, but "African & White" is a bona fide classic - it sounds as great today as it did 30 years ago...
About the chorus i have found this "Life is a favour in Israel". About "In Israel" there is no doubt if you hear live version as watch?v=seAxjbFlpGE&feature=artist
the most underrated band of the 80's, i saw them in NYC back in 84 and they open up for simple mind ,after they finish,80 percent of the crow left,it was funny because when they came out they saw and allmost empty house, the only reason why i stu there was because of her,my ex--that was one of the most greatest day of my life,to see that crapy overrated band, there look on there face was priceless.
just played the Virgin compilation from 1992, it's amazing how many brilliant tracks they wrote. I do love a GOOD POP SONG! This is their standout track, although the track "Hampton Beach" comes a close second.
Oh man, some SERIOUS memories flooding back now...I haven't heard this song SINCE I used to play it on CHRW in London, ON when it was actually released :))))
Great music, but China Crisis were political pygmies; I remember seeing them in Glasgow (Howard Jones supported them!) and they spouted some standard lefty nonsense. Anyway, I always thought their lyrics were a bit naff and twee. Music was good though!!
theres a few things we dont know in this world, how 2 cure cancer, what happens when we die, is there life beyond us and THE FUCKIN CHORUS LYRICS TO THIS GOD DAMN SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why doesnt any one know?????
@fuckamericanidiot i was 22 back then oh how i wish i was back in the eighties lol best music came from that era i still listen to it all now. although there is still some good music about today i still prefer the eighties stuff
Memories of the 80's indeed! For me, cruising along the main road into St Andrews in my mate's Vauxhall Cavalier just after finishing finals, with this music on and the wind blowing through the car windows and not a care in the world.
This is one of those songs that no matter how bad you felt , it always lifted your spirits. Loved this song. Have it on 12" vinyl in the loft among others!! Must invest in a record player and totally get lost in memories.
The most brilliant debut track from a UK band in the early 80's, it still stands up as a great song today ...these guy's had honesty in their lyrics and fantastic melodies and that's all that matters in true heartfelt music.
She had an ear for the BEST stuff out there & this song was one of her favorites. I would hear it coming out of her room & see her in there in that kind of floating groove dance trance she get when she found some magic groove to groove in.
It's such a beautiful song. I eventually let myself join the floating groove. So sweet ! Usually when there is an awesome groove it feels muscle-y or tight, fast , etc. .There is something so gentle about this groove
@godhelpme2009-GREAT COMMENT I KNOW HOW SHE FELT-ONE OF MY FAV SONGS EVER-I MISS THE 80'S,WE HAD THE BEST MUSIC-SKA-NEW WAVE-PUNK-DISCO-ROCK-HOUSE-METAL-RAP WHEN IT WAS VERY GOOD NOW ALL THEY HAVE IT'S THAT BORING TECHNO CRAP,GOD BLESS THE 80'S.PEACE AND LOVE.
When i was 18 at the end of 1980 i got pissed 4 nights a week but went fast running 5 times a week for years. Now i'm 46 & have not drank alcohol for 10 years.Still got my memories though of great times of youth, loves & great music memories.Nothing takes you back like music.Thought i'd share that with you all !
Sat at computer having an 80`s fest. Trying to remember what records are hiding in my loft and then finding them on here. These boys put out some good tunes.
Thanks for the message. Have not been up the loft ladder yet. Dont fancy selling anything Yet thanks. I know there is an 80's treasure trove up there. Too many good memories to let go.
It's a delicious bassline. Our band had to split up because we became China Crisis while trying to become The Clash, Joy Division & The Stranglers - it just wouldn't do. Who'd have thought that the battle for supremacy between our influences would have yielded that result? Then again, The Sex Pistols were apparently big fans of The Carpenters, Abba & Mud. I don't know this for a fact. I just feel it must be true.
Weird! Do you think Katie Melua is a big fan of Nirvana, Motorhead & The Violent Femmes. I reckon we'd have to hypnotise her to get her to admit it, but I just know it must be true.
Oh god....im old now. I remember this when i was sooooooooo young. Eye liner and pvc trousers.....and china chrisis. Enloy life, love the music you love...itl always be there. Im off to cry 43 year old tears now......
God! have just happened upon this. Reminds me of working in Newquay 1983. Great times. Dont feel too bad mysterywhylay. My tears are 45 years old.. Do you remember the Lotus Eaters? What was their tune called??
Check The Oxford ENGLISH Dictionary the word 'spelt' is there.Perhaps it doesn't in your American version Yankee Doodle Dandy leave OUR ENGLISH language alone, thank you
hmmm...not sure about that I've listened to it again and it sounds more like "life is a fever in which we hail"....if that makes any sense...this line always bugged me
"Life is a fever in Israel?" Not real sure, but I can't find the full lyrics for it?
