  • I run to be the best I can be. I run because there's no limit on the distance i can achieve. I run because it gives me strength.

  • as awsome as this video is alone- for a nice switch mute and play this /watch?v=Z0kGAz6HYM8 simutaneously .. epic

  • "Why do you run" I run because I know its the right thing to do. It is my strength. And I know if I stick at it ill be running for charity in no time! :)

  • i used to watch this video the morning of every track meet, now that i look at it again form soo long i cried and now makes me want to get back into running

  • hey whats up with the lack of girl runners?

  • @123starbaby321 Not to worry. They are well represented in my other videos and please don't forget to acknowledge the great female triathletes in this video! Cheers!

  • @123starbaby321 check out one of the videos that was made, The Race...you will be amazed!

  • I run to fix the pain'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.

  • @triforced13 So true! When I run I feel... at one with myself. :)

  • I had tears in my eyes watching this. I run for enjoyment and it gives me confidence makes me believe in myself that little bit more in a way nothing or no one can. It's my escape and it's just me in my little world. :) I guess running means something different to each person and to me, it's v special and an achievement. :) C x

  • 2:27...what's happening there...

  • @junkano Thats Steve Prefontaine battling Lasse Viren and Mohamed Gamoudi for the gold medal in the 5000m. Pre pushed the pass the last mile after a very slow two miles. The last mile was 4:04. But he ended up getting 4th, but he gave it one hell of a go.

  • @junkano they just finished an iron man thats what happened

  • some people run from their problems, i run to solve mine.

  • Cool video.

  • I have played every sport there is to play and what i have found is that running is not something you can play. Running is a way of life, and for me it is like a drug. If i don't run for a while i suffer withdrawl feelings. After a while running becomes part of you, and without it you become depressed... my i life hasn't been hard, but running has gotten me through some tough and stressful days days

  • my shoes are broken now. : (

  • nice

  • K time to go for a run =D

  • "Most people run to see who is fastest! I run to see who has the most guts!" STEVE PREFONTAINE!! Had too lol

  • wow amazing video!!! loved it! got bout half way threw and i was like u cant tell me theres no PRE!!! then up it came prolly his most epic race even tho he lost because he gave it his all and wouls of won it there were running over a min for each quarter the first hald of the race! that race always gets me pumped. Thanks for the video

  • 3:20 is real amazing really gets the adrenaline pumping

  • I run because... there is no real reason to explain it. Whether you come in first place or last place your a winner in everyone eyes. Whether you have to run through freezing hell, overcome a recent surgery, shock everyone and set a new course record giving it your all, whether you pull your hamstring and you limp to the finish line proving you have the heart, being the underdog, crawling to the finish line with the most agonizing cramps, or out-sprinting someone in a photo finish end.

  • if you enjoy this video check out my channel, i fell in love with this vid so i decided to try out making one of my own

  • we run for Carrie Verdon!

  • I was at the final one - the men's 10k in Sydney.

I love the way their strides are moving in sync just at the end. The ultimate race!

  • Why to I run? it's my way of sticking my fingers up at anyone who has ever doubted me... losing over 10 stone,3 years on as a 24 year old 5 marathons and 1 ultramarathon later... am I done?? I've just started :)

  • Everyone check out oakwoodxc pump up videos!!

  • I've commented this video several times but I cant thank you enough for this video! It helped change my life. Every run I try So much harder cuz I know it's in me. I will continue to be better...

  • because the police are behind me!

  • I can't describe why...

It's the disgusting feeling that surrounds you when you have a bad race. It's the proud moment that envelops you when you have a great one. It's the defining ability to continue, to persevere, and to always seek a new greatest even when you are faced with setbacks.

I haven't had the best cross country season. No, I've had one of the worst. But that doesn't mean it's over. On Saturday, my heart will spill on to the field. I will persevere. I will reach my greatest.

  • You have a reason to run and everyone shows it like @MineRealmLive if you have a bad season just like everyone does. You can let your heart spill out on the course or field. Still it's hard to explain but its can be shown to keep running over any obstacle and win, come in first win or come in last but showing "Why you run"

  • "Because knowing I gave everything means everything." I can't top that.

  • Out of curiosity who is the kid at 1:10? Was that at nationals or something like that?

  • @patsfan124 Dathan Ritzenhein, won FootLocker Nationals his Junior and Senior year

  • I run not for the feeling of accomplishment, and not for the bragging rights to say "I can run 10 miles, you can't!". I RUN BECAUSE I CAN, I run because it's worth it, maybe I'm just trying to hold on to something that is slowly fading away, or maybe I just refuse to sit on the couch and watch the world fly by. When somebody asks "where were you? you didn't answer my calls", I want to reply "I was running"

  • I think a great way to approach this question is to ask yourselves "why every runner stops at the finish line". Not one continues after it. It is not that runners love the act of running but everything that comes with accomplishing something. One reason I run is because I hate it... I hate that feeling I get the last 600m of a race knowing I am about to give it my all. But when I do, I feel like a have defeated something bigger than myself. I have won, maybe not the race but something.

  • what race is 1:00? anyone know? Thanks.

  • @comicrelief427 1999 Footlocker Nationals, Ritz

  • @RunninAD sick. Thank You so much dude!

  • @afrankline0416 I'm a kid, and a runner, and I know the some great runners. Steve Prefontaine, Ryan Hall, Shay Ryan(Rip), Josh Cox, Mo Farah, Meb.

  • I showed this to my XC team one day before practice. We're a new program, and while they have the heart and the dedication, I needed them to have focus. This really helped provide that for them and for me. Amazing. My kids ran their fastest that day for practice. Thank you for this and your other videos...

  • I run because it's fun!

  • Whauw! .. Almost made me cry.

This video is absolutely beautiful. Good job

  • song ???

  • @IIGIOIDILIYII My weakness by moby

  • Why do I watch this Video? because it helps me get off my ass and RUN! Thanks for such a great video!

  • Because everything else is just a game.

  • I run since 4 years , this movie is one of the reasons why !

  • This was incredible.

    Thank you!

  • Because before I couldn't.

  • this is an amzaing video, its really getting me pumped for xc time trials

  • 3:26 is a perfectly aligned stride!

  • AMAZING

  • Because i ran out of bacon

  • Because my car is in the shop.

  • For all of you asking the song is "my weakness" by Moby kind of ironic if that a video of this character would have background music titles my weakness

  • I run for the hill of it

  • @kopach24 now THERE'S a fellow XC runner

  • I run because I CAN

  • what is the name of the song please?

  • @XEVxandex "My Weakness" by Moby :)

  • The best feeling is when you finish a race and you gave everything and you feel like crap but also feel really good. It really is a bittersweet victory.

  • i get chills when i see Ritz just completly leaving it all on the course at at '99 foot locker meet.

  • Love it. Probs watched it 50 times already!

  • EPIC

  • WHAT IS THE SONG??????

  • this gave me chills man

  • I run because I feel free from everything

  • I run because I like Donuts.

  • I've watched the video every single day for the past year....

I run because some people see this sport as nothing until they see me give it everything....

  • this gave me chills. i want to be a runner now.

  • i have no god damn idea why i run....i just do

  • i run because i have to. it is as much a part of me as anything ive ever known

  • Comment removed

  • I run because winning isn't everything.

  • What is the song? Love this clip, always makes me smile and think about why i run!

  • i run because running makes my life better - because when I run, I don't worry about my future, my problems, my family and the bad things that happen in life. When I run, i focus on my breathing and nothing but my running.

    Running is precious.

  • People are asking so:

    1.Trevor Dunbar 9:02 3200m in HS

2.Joan Benoit 1984 LA Olympics, 1st Women's Olympic Marathon. Underdog due to recent knee surgery takes gold

3.Dathan Ritzenheim. 1999 Footlocker Xc National Championships. Breaks course record

    4.Derek Redmond. 1992 Olympics. 400m semi-finals. Torn hamstring

    5.Steve Prefontaine. 1972 Olympics 5k

6.Sian Welch & Wendy Ingraham. 1997 Ironman World Championship

7.Haile Gebreselassie takes gold over Paul Tergat. 2000 Olympics 10K final

  • @athleteization brilliant dude, thanks!

  • humans are made for running, i just do what i am made for

  • Running is nothing special or heroic. It certainly is not masochistic.

Running is ordinary, very ordinary: like brushing your teeth or taking a dump.

At its highest level, running is not about feeling good or losing weight.

At its highest level, running is about letting go, dropping the ego-mind.

That is the highest level of ANY activity, actually:

When the doer disappears and only the doing remains.

True running happens when the runner disappears.

  • WOOOOW AMAZING! THOSE WOMEN AT THE IRON MAN FINISH ARE SOOOO INSPRING - THE WHOLE VIDEO IS BRILLIANT - THNAKYOU :)

  • I run because I have a dream of going to state during my last year of Cross Country in high school. I run because I want to be remembered for the years to come as much as I can. I want the world that to know that somethings are just worth fighting for. I want the world to know that I've ran races bleeding out of my toes, or ran with stress fractures in both legs at the same time in a race. I want the world to know that I bleed silver and blue, my school colors!

  • Check me outz

  • This video affects me, emotions and energy are released when I watch it. It is hard to keep sitting after seeing this, got to go running!

@Ryan, this is a great composition, a masterpiece!

  • This video affects me, emotions and energy are released when I watch it. It is hard to keep sitting after seeing this, got to go running!

  • I wept after watching this... I run because the for that brief moment in time that I run, all of the loneliness and sadness goes away and I feel nothing but utter joy... There is nothing like it. It is one of the only true pleasures in life.

  • I love the clip at the Ironman, of one of the finishers that crawled trying to pull the other crawler to the finish line. Such heart!

  • I run to get away from it all. To get my mind straight. To be the best I can be. To devote myself to something even if nobody understands why. To win. To compete. To be a part of something special. To race for the love of racing. To get back to that primal instinct of going as fast and far as you can go. To be free. I run because I enjoy every midfoot strike, knee lift, and foreward motion.

  • I run because my greatest hero ran, and I want to be just like him. My fiancee.

  • I run to fuel my sense of awe...

  • I run to get over a surgery that people thought I would not recover from and prove them wrong.

  • I run because i live in camboya

  • I run because my house is too big and the bathroom is too far.

  • i run cuz i can see all the matters behind me,i wish i could run all my entire life. Greetings from Czech :)

  • Ryan, I'm watching all your videos to get pumped for west regionals today. It's working, thanks. This is Jake by the way haha.

  • @FolsomCC Who is Ryan?

  • O_O Ryan Hall.....

Kids these days especially runners dont know the great runners

  • @afranklin0416 Ryan Hall was never mentioned in this video dude. Nor did ryan hall make this video thats why the guy said whos ryan.

  • @afranklin0416 Who are we calling kids...

  • i run because many people back then including myself thought i couldn't run 200 meters before dieing while jiggling my stomach

  • I run because that is MY time, and there is nothing else

  • I run because you,he, she or they run. If they can, why dont I try and to be extra ordinary. I was about 20 years a chain smoker, then I try to stop smoking, try to run longer and longer. Just finished my second marathon. My next try in 2 years, ultra marathon.

  • 1:44 - the look of satisfaction

  • i run because being able to do something that most people cant and dont even attempt in a life time is the greatest feeling. I run because when i cross that finish line and say i gave away 30 minutes of my life to do something that ive trained years for is a point of true happiness

  • I run because I used to be morbidly obese and never thought I could ever even run a block.

  • @mettabee swell job man

  • i run to be in my solitude, to take energy that is not possible in static state, exchange air. to burn stress, to find freedom, i run since i was a kid chased by other kids bullies, run because i always thought i was a horse. and that is my very principle in running the horse. naturally i always draw them with out see them, and i like to believe the horse is in my soul... because i am a child forever, goofy, funny and free..

  • i run to prove everyone wrong who said i wouldnt be anything

  • running is a lifestyle , nowhere but in running you can give hundred percent of you , till you colapse...then yuo can say i gave everything i had...everything...

  • i run to prove everyone wrong

  • i run to get away from the po po

  • I run because after a long day of anger of hating your teammate for how cocky and incredibly stupid he is, you just gotta go in and race hard, run hard, and not give up no matter how tired you are, then afterwards knowing he beat you and how much your seething you just gotta be the bigger man, hold your hand out, and say "you did a good job." Today I can say that I found what the true meaning of running is and I can proudly say that that is why I run

  • @BlazersLax17 Just remember. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. If he's lazy, and you're even remotely close to him in a race, have faith that one day, you will beat him in a race.

  • i run to challenge myself, to accomplish my dream, to run at state, and to bring my 4x8 team with me.

  • Someday I won't be able to run. Today is not that day.

  • I will run today because I wan't to let the stress go away.

  • I run to find myself to know who I am. For live more intensiv, to feel my body intensiv

and to surpass myself. That gets me a feeling of being one with myself and nature.

I think you will always have this undescribeable happy feeling if you challenge yourself in this high effort. It makes a cind of harmony between spirit and body.

    So I do it.

  • 20 people are fat!!!

  • I run because I was diagnosed with a neurological disorder, and the doctor told me that I would have to use a cane to walk, and I would never be able to participate in any sports. I run to prove him, and all those who believe that I can't do it, wrong.

  • Because walking takes way to long.

  • To make sure, that no matter how many times I fall, I'll always have the strength to get up one more time.

Falling physically or mentally, still works... I love the feeling when you think you can't run any further but still push on and go even faster.

  • because i was born to run.

  • i run so i can become a better wrestler

  • i run because i love it!!!

  • 3:33 is the best <3

  • @yoooGmoney 2000 10000m Best of All Time

  • I sprint because I don't want to have the same body as a distance runner.

  • Comment removed

  • I run because when I run i have no past, no future....just the moment! which lets you take all my worries and stress away :)

running is great...and it's free! how many times can you find those words together?

  • I run because I don't have much time left with my current heart condition. I want to know at least I die doing the thing I love most, sports.

  • I run to prove that I am the exception from the statistics.

  • I run because i love to reach my body's limit and feel it tingling. I also run to motivate my 2 fat brothers

  • I run because to fell everyday that i am better than the previous one .

  • I run because the doctors told me I would possibly never run again after I broke my tibia and severed all the ligaments in my ankle... I used to run a 12:52 two mile... now I run a 12:31, with the plate and 6 screws.

Never, EVER, tell me I can't. Period.

  • I almost cried... and then I went for a run

  • i run because that is when i feel the most alive. when i get to the point of exhaustion and my body is begging me to stop, when each and every breath i take is like the first and the last one...and i love every single second of it.

  • I run because that is the only time I 'm really free.

  • @cosg9531 im definitely enjoying alot more than you ever will

  • @cosg9531 well is not just to give a 100% you got give that extra sprint and that is what makes everyone different.......... :)

  • Is that you at the beginning fancy boy?

  • I run because a don't like it... I LOVE IT!

  • I can't stop watching this video. Well played.

  • @cosg9531 us

    the runners

  • So inspirational man, great work!

  • I run because life would be too easy otherwise

  • I run because I just wouldn't be me without running.

  • i run because i have stamina

  • i run because i have to give more than just a 100%

  • "I just felt like running"

    Forrest Gump

  • The most refreshing reason to run is given by the Kenyan champions. They win, they get money, they buy new cows. I guess it's not a matter of "overcoming" when you've always been super fast.

  • I cried. Thank you.

  • I run because its the only thing that keeps me sane

  • That immense pain through out your body that you get after you've given everything you could running a race; I live for that.

  • I run to do something I never thought I would or could do, to accomplish a goal, to believe in myself that I can do anything I set my mind to! btw, why isn't the video working today?

  • @TheMommyrachel Should be OK. And good for you to believe!

  • one name

    STEFAAN ENGELS

    check it out!!!!!!!!!!

    unbelievable

  • i run to get away from my life

  • I run so that I can finally defeat and let go of all the bad things that have ever happened to me in the past when I cross that finish line.

  • When and what race was the clip?

  • The 3rd person running looks so fast!

  • @orrza1 You mean the footage from Foot Locker? That's Dathan Ritzenhein. He still has two of the fastest Foot Locker XC finishing times.

  • 19 people need to get off the couch and start taking some risks.

  • I run because it is the only way to know exactly what I am made of. If I win a race I trained the hardest. I tried the hardest. I wanted it the most. If I lose, I didn't give my all. When I see someone sweating profusely but still willing themselves to continue towards the finish it reminds me that running is the lifestyle, not the sport, the lifestyle of true champions. Those who win, are truly winners. Those who try, are soon to be the victors. Those who fail, are faltering at their own will.

  • I run for my Dad, my Nan and to show the world I can.

  • I run because, there is a time, in each of our lives, where a moment or an act will shape you forever. There is the time, when you will discover your passion. You will only ever have one true passion. And you can choose, you can always choose, whether to accept it or not. No one said it would be easy. Choosing to give the run my all was the hardest thing I have ever done. But I know one thing. If I hadn't done it, I would wonder every day of my life, what if I had?

  • I run for my grandmother who passed away before she could see me do great things in my races. I run because it's the only sport that challenges me. I run for God to show I am grateful for the gift he has given me. I run to take down records off the board at my high school. I run for the others who cannot run. I run through the tough times. I run when I am in doubt. I run simply because I love running.

  • I Run. But not for 1st place, not for the ribbons, not for the medals, and not even for the Gold Trophy. I want no business in that. I run, because when i'm motivated, I do well and do extraordinary things that i thought i couldn't do. As time passes, I can look back in my mind, that the guy that got 1st, was ME.

  • goosebumps like insanity

  • I run not for myself, nor for other people but purely for the Glory of GOD.

  • i run because it is my therapy.

  • the real question is: why wouldnt you run?
