Awhile back the first time I saw her beam routine particularly in this video, my jaw dropped. I'm in Gymnastics too, but I have NEVER in my life seen a Gymnast like her. In my opinion, she's the best gymnast the world has ever seen. GO SHAWN!(:

I'm not sure why but I've always enjoyed watching Shawn's dance elements more than Nastia, don't get me wrong, she's a beautiful gymnast and dancer. But Shawn just looks more natural, and her landings are a lot softer. I've always looked at Nastia and saw someone who tries to hard to be a ballerina. Shawn doesn't have to, She knows she's not a ballerina she's knows that she's Shawn Johnson, the gymnast!
Why is there so much commenting after the comparison. He was comparing STYLES not TALENT. They are both very talented... But people are always going to go for only one. I prefer Shawn but that doesn't mean I don't like Nastia Lukin.:)
I really don't think it's right to compare Nastia and Shawn...they both have their events that they're strongest in...but, get real..they're in the olympics...they're both awesome at everything...if they weren't...they wouldn't be there...Just saying.

@mcabizuca I don't see why they can't be compared. All Tim was saying is that they are two different gymnasts; Shawn is more power and Nastia more artistic. They were the top two U.S gymnasts in 2008...of course they would be compared.
It would be physically impossible for Nastia to do Shawn's vault, just like it would be physically impossible for Shawn to do Nastia's uneven bars routine.
Nastia would break herself trying to do Shawn's power tumbling on floor, but there's no way in hell Shawn could do Nastia's dance/jump bonus combos. Each would look totally ridiculous trying to do the other's choreography.
@ASPaez1965 Little Komova can do Shawns vault and she has the same structure as Nastia. I just believe that gymnast these days just stick to what they are good at and never really try to do new things or expand their skill sets like they did in the past. I agree that Nastia Doing Shawn choreo would look bad but thats because Shawn doing it looks bad too.

@ASPaez1965 well mostly right...I agree with 90 percent of it...smaller weaker gymnast are throwing up the amanar vault than Nastia...and Memmel who is similar to Shawn could never do an Amanar so I wouldn't say its impossible. But no need to compare them like you said.

Personally overall I prefer Nastia as a gymnast because I think she brings power flexibility and grace however Shaun is by far the most powerful and is absolutely perfect on Beam

@commamomma I think the mats have a lot to do with that. They're quite deep, and if you land with a lot of impact/power, they compact a lot and make it hard to stick. Nothing scientific, just my observations from my own gymnastics.
Do not disrespect Nastia Liukin. She is very talented, and does not deserve any bit of non-sense. No doubt she works hard to get to the where she is today, so do not criticize.
I just love to watch shawn on balance beam! her landings are just perfect! she's so different to nastia, who i also love to watch on beam because of her grace and elegance and her long legs....but shawn has such precision and power!

its awesome! but isnt it kida funny how she sticks everything with no wobbles on a 4 inch beam, but not her dismount on the floor? i mean, im not saying anything mean. I love her soooooo much. but think about it. isn't it sorta funny?

@commamomma I think the mats have a lot to do with that. They're quite deep, and if you land with a lot of impact/power, they compact a lot and make it hard to stick. Nothing scientific, just my observations from my own gymnastics.

Do not disrespect Nastia Liukin. She is very talented, and does not deserve any bit of non-sense. No doubt she works hard to get to the where she is today, so do not criticize.

I just love to watch shawn on balance beam! her landings are just perfect! she's so different to nastia, who i also love to watch on beam because of her grace and elegance and her long legs....but shawn has such precision and power!
and i love shawn's hair the way it is in this video, the little plaits are so cute! :)
