A year old but this stupidity needs resolution. I'm actually taking the side of jelleoelle here, that the Awesome Bar is a somewhat lazy hack. It's neat for kicks, but if I want to search my history then I will open the history and freaking search it. Safari 3 actually did this the right way: Ctrl-L for URL, a tab from there for websearch, and one more tab for history (on a new tab, at least).

i dont really like it....it looks bulky...dont really use it though since i have everything bookmarked (icons)

I agree, i have like 1000 bookmarks, and when you type any letter they all show up in the list, so annoying...

Most of us spend time visiting the front page of the same sites again and again, and from there click the links to the new things on that website.
The awesome bar is CRAP!
Before you could just type the first 2 or 3 letters of the site you want, and it would be on top of the list.
Now, since it searches ANYWHERE and sort them by last visited, you ALWAYS get the subpages instead of the main page, which is pretty much NEVER what you want.

The whole freaking point of the url bar comming with suggestions is to NOT TYPE THE WHOLE URL!
WHAT THE FUCK does the up and down arrow help? Why should I go 10 places down instead of one, as in firefox 2.
