  • I had forgotten Alan swore in this video :) , and nothing changes much does it *sigh*

  • Since this was made, LisaSimpson was made into a partner, maybe the system is working?

  • I heard about the new "council" while I was away. Now figured out it was from this channel.

On this video, you do make some good points...\\

But I knew this already (since I did my 1st vlog in 2005) and most of us know this. It doesn't change anything. Gootube is always going to be separate and oblivious to the injustice.

You did a great video and expressed the issue. But it actually seems like you 'advocate' some kind of way that we should hope to change what cannot be changed.

  • Because Youtube hires people that feel that they have a talent that will do well. Its not like I always agree with whom they think has talent but that is the major reason for anyone becoming a partner. The partner guidelines are there to look at but they are guidelines. Youtube will hire someone that may not fit all of the requirements because they have a talent they like. This is true in the media realm. Talent always goes first. ~Raven

  • just business, i agree

  • 5 lol

  • geekboy2000 was hear

  • Maybe some of these corporate partners are paying a monthly fee for the right to be partners.

This is a question, not a comment.

  • Gah.

    That's just unbelievable.

I'm a larger part of the youtube community than all of those who've gotten partnered.

I mean, I actually want to be a partner, and I work my ass off to get views and comments.

Not to mention the fact that I've replied to every single comment that I've gotten. Except for maybe 1 or 2.

    - Tiffany.

  • WHAT!!! THAT IS TERRIBLE!! I get more comments and respond to more comments than that!!!! oh that is when I can comment....

  • I predicted this on the day Google bought youtube. I exposed them for promoting a political video that was hacking the system, and they made it easier to hack and harder to track!

Youtube is for people with checkbooks and clout, forget the cobbles of our little community. That's over.

  • This reminds of the Utubia guys's rant. The partnered people must have ways of contracting to youtube, but it is not published on the site. Is there a lot of money being made by anyone? Good luck on getting partnered.

  • That is amazing, you researched and presented that well,

    Thanks

    Dan

  • what does partnered mean ? :P

  • I was wondering the same thing :S... if you find out let me know :P

  • Partnered is when you send a application thing to youtube and they give you a banner at the top of your channel and videos. When people go on your channel the most recent video will automaticlly play. Its bascilly cool stuff on your channel check out people like whatthebuckshow fallofautumndistro.

    there partnered

  • thanks :)

  • Absolutly unbelieveable. I completely agree with you. People should achieve a certain amount of notoriety on youtube before they are partnered.

  • that's pretty bad man. I agree. dagnamit, who do i moan to now you've been partnered? Joke. Joke.

    :)

  • It's called money.

    Well bags of money.

  • Wow!

  • Media companies can contact YT and start a partnership that way. "Vloggers" have to be contacted by YouTube to become partners.

  • AAAAAAAAGH WTF? I want an explaination!

  • dude...youtube has an agenda, they are a company

  • You got way too much time on your hands man, get a life! I feel better as a person now, since i don't have to wake up as you.

  • You wanna know how Hectic Films did it? Its simple. There PIMP!

  • Get a fucking LIFE!

  • ~sigh# ~continues banging head against wall~

  • I had to rewrite this comment because all I was doing was swearing. I am utterly disgusted, though not surprised.

  • maybe you have to be connected to the youtube people xD

  • Yeah, totally ridiculous. This phenomenon has come to my attention since the start of the german YT localization. I personally believe that YT brings out the red carpet sometimes just to please certain influential parties.

  • Youtube play fair,that's a joke!

They deleted all my comments this summer.

Maybe youtube thought I was to involved with the community.

  • OMG! WTF!

Maybe you have to Pay into it.

  • THE END IS NEAR!!!

  • They partner anybody and everybody who's pseudo-mainstream, to prevent against copyright lawsuits.

  • I should have listed to the warning. Five subscribers and a partner? WTF?

    ... the revolution is near.

  • Has anyone on here just signed on in the last week or so? I was wondering if there is an option now for those who are new to the site.

  • why does Halliburton get so many govt contracts...why isn't George Bush being arrested for treason...I could go on and on...it's all related...it's capitalism, it's survival of the fittest...the only way things would be more fair is if money didn't exist at all...

  • morph988: On the other hand, with capitalist system, YouTube probably wouldn't exist at all. I mean, they didn't go around saying, "Hey, let's make a cool site, spend millions of dollars a month in bandwidth fees, and not make any money, but just help people have fun and get recognized!" No, obviously, they created it to make money.

    (continued)

  • [Part 2]

And if money wasn't a factor, they probably wouldn't have created YouTube. And then you wouldn't be able to complain about the capitalist system being unfair, because there would be no YouTube site to begin with.

No system's perfect. But wealth gain motivates innovation. Abuses, such as Haliburton, need to be reigned in. But there's no abuse here -- just people running their business as they see fit.

  • *Correction: "On the other hand, with capitalist system" should instead be "On the other hand, without the capitalist system."

  • if money didn't exist, we'd probably be spending time with each other face to face instead of over a stupid internet...we would have real relationships instead of cyber ones...things would be even better...

  • Well, what you write is true. But, then again, we wouldn't have the technical advances we have. And we'd still have to trade. Only it would be cattle and coconuts instead of dollars and yen.

  • I understand what you are saying. It does seem as people are spending more and more time on the net, they are spending much less time interacting socially.Social skills are at an all time low. People do not "visit" in each other's homes..this could have a lonely ending.

  • you are touching on a subject that's very delicate...if people really understood how the world worked, there would be riots in the streets...it's not what you know, it's who you know...or the size of your bank account...

    ɹoʌǝɹʇ ǝǝɹɟ

  • Thanks for summarizing. It's kinda nice to be back in high school again, actually (only the lunches are better this time). Now we just need a prom king and prom queen.

Lessee, I vote for xgobobeanx for prom queen (because she's got so many people against her, it'll stir up more drama); and, of course, Ian Crossland for prom king (because he'll give a long, boring speech that we can all laugh at). If Ian doesn't want it, then it's Renetto, of course! :-)

  • How did xgobobeanx just make partner, a DAY after her other account was suspended for cheating? Yet Mike Skehan is suspended and BANNED completely?

YouTube doesn't seem to really care who the community wants to see as partners or who they community WANTS on this website.....(video response attatched, good work here...)

  • It's sickening, I know.

  • I think its hilarious that the cw channel has 5 subscribers.

  • I don't think its favoritism. I think its about commercial value. They are probably partnering channels they think have good advertising potential.

So, some random persons blog is good if they get ALLOT of hits. You are reaching a large audience. Some channels with a consistent theme are good because you can focus the content of the ads.

    Its not perfect, but whatever.

  • hahaha do a bunch of a shit you'll regret tomorrow.. dont some people pay to be partners? yeah like CW and all them?

  • Hey!!! Thanks for the hit on our site!!! Thats awesome! Because of you we might have earned another fraction of a cent!!!Thank You!

    HECTIC FILMS

  • why do i feel offended by this user making this comment?

  • PS You ONLY joined 6 months ago, what do you know about YouTube or its users?

  • YourTubeAdvocate is channel run by different people, each month somebody else continues the work.

And Alan is really in touch with the community.

  • Advocate? I am sad that I watched this video, I feel like doing something I'll regret tomorrow. Rather than deleting my account i'll never listen to the "YourTube" advocate again. Thanks anyway.

  • If you are here to become a YouTube partner, this video might mean something to you. But I have always believed there are better sites than YouTube. No I am not a YouTube partner and do not give a shit if I become one. I am however, partners with a few other sites. Only one problem either way, there is not much money in these programs.

  • Oprah never replied to my comment, either.

  • Haha, did you really expect her to, though?

  • Of course not.

  • Did she actually allow a comment to be posted?!

    Lucky you!

  • The comment was never posted. It dealt with the fact that there were 20,000+ views and no comments posted.

  • I see your point.

I suppose youtube chose partners who maybe can bring in a lot of new viewers from other websites..

  • what the hell is youtube thinking? how are they becoming partners?

  • I cannot believe that a channel that doesn't interact with its viewers can be a Youtube partner. It really goes against all that is great about Youtube: we put out our ideas and open the forum up to viewers. I love the fact that people comment on my videos and I write back to everyone.

  • The viewers inspire me, make me laugh, cheer me on, correct me, sometimes slag me but we're interacting. The conversation makes this creative process incredibly enjoyable to me. It's almost my favorite part.

    love,

    Carole

  • Carole, I agree wholeheartedly.

  • It looks as if YT is looking for ProdCo generated content for the long haul.

  • I wonder if anyone will get invited to be a partner, without paying for it, anymore?

I'm worried about where all this is going. Will it get to where we have to purchase features as well? It's obvious that some of these channel have.

  • You can pay to be a partner?

  • Do you really think Oprah made partner with her smashing good looks?

  • Well, she will draw more to the site - but since this video was about not-so-famous people, I had forgotten about her and other celebrities like her.

  • The video is about these companies and celebrities obviously buying their ways into a partnership. Since they have 20 subs, and arent' involved in the YT community, etc. And the little people, who have thousands of subs, and reply to every comment, are not invited to be a partner....why? If you think no money changes hands, you're fooling yourself.

  • Oooooh. My ignorance is so blinding. I hope you are wearing sunglasses.

*I* have no idea on who these people are, so I thought. Oh, gee. Never mind. I should just get more sleep. ;D

  • Its because YouTube and Google are capitalist fat-cats, who partner people who they think will benefit Them, not the Youtube community, cos they dont really give a shit, as long as the advertisers keep sending the cheques

  • Italia!!!

  • How about Boh3m3? When was the last time you ever saw him comment on another channel. How often does he reply on his own? Rarely.

  • i agree it's about being fair, and this example shows YouTube has no real criteria for making people partners. i could care less about being a partner, and as you say, it's not about money, because i think there isn't that much to be had by being a partner. peace.

  • That is fucked up!

  • You people crack me up. Do you know how much of a joke revenue-sharing on YouTube is? Anyone who thinks it's interesting certainly knows little about the ad industry. There isn't a user on YouTube today who stands to earn real money. It takes hundreds and hundreds of hits on a brand's ad or banner to generate a sale. CONT...

  • CONT... Ex: A video with one million hits may generate 10,000 banner hits, which may turn into $300 in revenue for the brand. Let's say the brand shares 15% with YouTube. That means YouTube makes $45, which it shares with the video poster. LOL. I don't care if you're Smosh or Mia Rose, you're making peanuts. CONT...

  • CONT...Real brands have very limited online media investments and it's spread out very thin. Only a little bit of money going into YouTube and that's mostly on their home page. The little side banners on the actual videos are a joke. Anyone that thinks there's real money to be had there is living in a dreamland.

  • Obviously you didn't watch the video or read the video description, my concerns aren't with the money aspects of the Partnership Program.

  • What happened to your lateset video?

  • I removed it. There was one factual mistake and I didn't want it bringing the rest of the content into question. My opinions have been stated in this comment section enough, so. It was really just me repeating myself for clarity. It was unnecessary.

  • Haha shame you retard can't get some cash off adsense

  • It boils down to money

  • What a crock!

  • Agreed SF! There are so many channels out there that deserve the promotion and recognition. But I'm done bitching about it, it'll happen or it won't...

  • YouTube is not the same channel I joined last year. I am extremely disappointed by the commercialist site it has become. I have unsubscribed from most of the popular youtubers as a result of their partnership.

  • A lot of people feel the same way puppylips. Unfortunately.

  • I don't think it is appropriate to attack people based on who their partners are, it's not my business or anyone elses.

  • Good video m8, this is surprising whoa. I think Lisasimpson should be a partner without doubt.

  • Agreed. =)

  • Great post Alan. Sorry it took awhile to get around to it.

  • Thanks Allen.

  • I'm not sure that "community interaction" plays any role at all in partnership. I'd go as far as saying that it play NO role in anyone getting partner'd so, I mean, I don't know. A lot of partners do seem pretty weird but I'm sure youtube has their reasons, most probably involve money or something. look at how many local tv stations are partners, it has to mean something, maybe?

  • From the tone, I get the feeling you are a subscriber snob. Maybe I am wrong. If you want to be a partner, just bug YouTube until they make you one. Personally I don't subscribe to partners, becsause once money for views enters the equation, the motive and methods become questionable.

  • ^^ the reason why i can't dance very well!!

    gyahahahahahaha!!

i bet those were not orders from above

the upper echelon prolly does'nt even know that the employees relatives are now all partners!!

    gyahahahahahaha!!

it's not what you know or you can do it's who you know!!that's how it works on this earth so STFU!!and find something new to whine about!!

posting vids is still free!wtf is your problem with that??

    ^^

  • A lot of people who subd to your site are gonna miss you. I really liked on what you had to say (in general)and it's really too bad that this crap is going on... like I said before thank You for being you!

    ɹoʌǝɹʇ ǝǝɹɟ

  • My guess is either those people bought their partnership or YT saw a way to make money from making them partners. YT is a company, that's what companies do - look for ways to make money. That doesn't make me less angry about what I see as total disregard for the community but it is a fact of life.

  • I have 4 subscribers and NO videos.

    I wanna get partnered!

  • Yep that's You Tube. Some things never change. The only time people will be treated fairly on this website is when it's in the monetary interests of YT to do so.

  • Maybe Lisa dosesn't want to be a partner. Maybe you do? Anyways, YT is just a reflection of the realword. So this is no shock to me.

  • WOW thats Nuckin Futs!

    Theres Youtube for you!

    -MVN

  • The goal of the partner program is three fold:

    1. Allow users who are popular to get paid for their videos so people continue to post on YouTube. (TheWineKone has posted a lot more frequently since become a partner)

    2. Use the promotion tools given to the partners to promote channels they feel are worthy of being watched and have a chance to be watch.

  • 3. Persuade well known viral and Internet personalities (JibJab) to post videos on YouTube so viewers don't need to leave the site for any viral video watching.

Also, I think "the community" you are talking about is different than "the community" YouTube is talking about. You think the community are the people who interact with eachother on this site (nalts, renetto,boh3m3, etc..), YouTube thinks the community are the people who activley and regularly post videos on this site.

  • Well, I think of it as this way....First, business decision- that particular youtube has a unique audience and Youtube chooses partners based on that. Thats wise. Second, the idea that Youtube will offer a partnership that doesnt rely on popularity is encouraging to others. One of the community backlashes is its just the popular ones getting noticed. Youtube making that decision to have him become a partner, changes the air on that grievance. ~Raven

  • but my point is, whats the point of doing a partnership program that you arent even making the partners happy?...let alone everyone else who wants to be on it...? beta testing it or not as brad said it seems ridiculous...beta testing only usually happens for certain people i agree because they dont need everyone beta testing something because that would just complicate things...but how they have choosing those certain people is what has the majority of the public on youtube angry...

  • DPOYN!

  • I have seen at least 1 "partner" with youtube say that they have seen NOTHING from youtube...not a cent and seem very annoyed with it...so not only has youtube seemingly pissed off people who have not been chosen for the partnership program but they have also seemingly pissed off the actual "partners" and i'm not naming names...

I'm not saying who "whined to me." Needless to say though, it was more than a single person. There are A LOT of people out there who want to see you gone, so they trust an individual who has a proven track record of dealing with lulzcows such as yourself.

I am the pengies. No matter what you try to do to me, you will end up losing in the end.

Emma got what she deserved, and you got what you deserved. In war, there is blood.

However DID I drop personal info? No. There's a difference between actually dropping docs and using it for psychological advantages. Fuck Jipsi, are you THAT stupid?

  • Yeah yeah Jipsi, I've heard that before. Go ahead and forward my info. We all know that you can't ignore me, no matter how hard you try. I know your kind Jipsi. I've destroyed many of your ilk before.

  • I threaten anyone and everyone, female or male, 18+. I have no problem admitting to what I do. Unlike you, who hides behind "the community" bullshit and harasses people privately. I already exposed emma. All I have to do now is drop the address, and that's not really my thing. I DO like to threaten her, because I know she shit herself just a bit.

  • how the fuck do you eben become a partner

  • You have to be invited by YouTube.

  • DPOYN!

  • or fill out a form at the YouTube blog

  • Yeah, did that over six months ago. Doesn't seem to be getting anyone anywhere.

  • I did than during the summer for fun but ya... can't you ask MGM for help?

  • yeah it makes you sivk al right, but not me!!!i don't really care, but your point is true.

  • MORE POWER TO THE PENGUINS!

  • Ok ... 20 seconds into the video and I'm going to (foolishly I'm sure) ignore your warning.

  • Well, I didn't become enraged, and needless to say my account is still open. Nothing I didn't already know about.

If you have some patience there isn't anything to go nuts about, besides the loss of maybe a few hundred dollars. As I see it there are two reasons people are upset. The first is they feel slighted by YouTube for not being one of the early ones accepted. Taking the actions of a website that has to deal with thousands upon thousands of users that personally is a little silly.

  • The second reason people would be upset/jealous is that they don't really care about fairness, but want to feel "special" because they are in an exclusive group. Personally, I'd rather feel special because I make good videos.

That being said...sure I've been frustrated by their selections, and felt slighted by YouTube. Human nature.

  • I will be making a video tonight or tomorrow replying to many of the comments here, a lot of people are bringing up the same issues over and over.

  • DPOYN!

  • JackDanyells: "Personally, I'd rather feel special because I make good videos." Great point.

  • Who care how many subs people have I don't think that has anything to do with being a partner youtube can make who ever they want to be a partner its there website

  • Who really cares about who is a partner?

I can't understand all the hype about the partner system at all ... especially not if people expose a partner with less subscribers and less activity in the comments section. It is unnessary - being on YouTube is a privilege, becoming a partner is an honor. And it is up to the owner of this website to decide who can get the honor.

So I don't care about the partners ...

  • It is not YouTube owe us something ... life goes on ... no matter if someone is a partner or not. Also I know some of the newest partners like as ZDF are aquired by YouTube to post exclusively their stuff on YouTube (like as William Shatner does on Live Video) ... money talks ... it is a company hosting our videos here FOR FREE ... we are just only guests. Accept it!

  • youtube would be anything without every single one of us. Are they really hosting FOR FREE? If none of us were to post videos or watch, would they be getting any sponsors etc? NO!

there's a georgian saying "what you give away is yours what you don't is lost" I think they should act according to this saying

  • arr typos

  • Anna, sorry, but check the most viewed lists and ask yourself which videos you watched here before you started to make your own content. The world isn't turning around us, the world turns around YouTube.

YouTube hosts this service for us for free with their development, their hardware, their bandwidth. YouTube is the most famous site in this sector and here we are getting the most attention, the most views. So it isn't like as YouTube treat us unfair or with no respect.

  • Some people are getting promoted with getting their videos featured. Some are even becoming partners .... and YouTube don't owe to me or to you anything about getting a video promoted or becoming a partner.

We all should be thankful what we're getting here.

And the rest is up to us ... if we create great content then we are getting better chances to impress our host to promote us. So it's all up to us to impress our host YouTube as same as our subscribers.

  • I spoke to a member who wrote to youtube a a lot of times and they agreed to make him a partner but it NEVER happened. So whats that all about. You can't agree and then not do it, that's just wrong.

  • Is it so important to become a YouTube partner? Is it so bad to don't become a partner? Are partners better YouTubers?

If you can answer all the questions with "NO" then you know the whole discussion makes not really a sense at all.

I think the whole issue about the partners is way too overdramatized.

  • >Is it so important to become a YouTube partner?

    To some, yes.

    > Is it so bad to don't become a partner?

    To some, yes.

    > Are partners better YouTubers?

    Of course not.

  • Annaconda1984: Re: "youtube would be anything without every single one of us. Are they really hosting FOR FREE?" --

Yes, they really are. Does that mean that they don't benefit from it? No, it doesn't. But you must be benefiting from it as well, or you wouldn't be here, right?

    (continued)

  • [Part 2]

So they're giving you something for free that you are benefiting from. What's the issue? That it's not free enough? That you or others have to be promoted or paid or it's not fair?

I don't see what's going on here, except that it's like children in a schoolyard saying, "He got a candy. Why can't I get a candy too?!"

  • i don't want to be in the partnership programm but I just can't watch injustice and have to support those who are suffering from it, thats all. It's more about the moral aspect...

  • Annaconda1984: And I commend you for speaking out for what you believe is right. I'm doing the same.

You say that you "can't watch injustice." "Injustice" means something is not just or is unfair. What is unfair? What did YouTube promise that they haven't delivered on? They have made some people partners while passing over others. But isn't it their site to do with what they want? In what way are they being unfair?

You see, somewhere along the line,

    (continued)

  • [Part 2]

a bunch of rules for how to be made partner were developed. The rules stated that if you had a lot of views or a lot of subscribers, then you'd be made partner. They also stated that if you were heavily involved in the community and replied to a lot of video comments, which shows that you care about the community, then you'd be made partner. Oh, and another one was that you couldn't be made partner if you just joined the site.

    (continued)

  • [Part 3]

You had to be on the site for a significant amount of time before you could be made partner.

Now, all of these rules were in place. But YouTube didn't keep to these rules! They gave partnerships to people without of view or subscribers. They gave partnerships to people who were brand new to the site. And they even passed over people who replied to most of their video comments (which was one of the strongest qualifiers for the partnership program,
