This song was originally composed by Jazz Compser, Performer, Band Leader, and Educator George Stone. I was lucky enough (albeit unworthy) to have played in his very first jazz combo Syncopation in Jr, & Sr. High. His 2011 Big Band Release "The Real Deal" shows how his talents have continued to grow and excel. George never got credit or compensation for this song from Microsoft, although he was paid a fee by the original publishing company for it. Rock On, George. - B. Merich
I've NEVER seen a Windows 98 (or Windows 95) install with Canyon.MID. Perhaps most people upgraded Windows 3.1 to Windows 95, and then to Windows 98 and it kept the canyon.mid file from the previous install.
Originally titled as "Trip Through the Grand Canyon", a George Stone's composition.

@Kargaroc286 It was buried in Windows/Media. You could find it if you searched the entire compupter for *.mid files.

Wow, you guys must be really young to think canyon.mid was from Windows 98. :( I remember discovering it in Windows 3.1.

I think lack of a sound card back in the day was the cause of my bad memory. Or I deleted the file for space or something on a 12MB hard drive. : )

@Gulopine The average twenty-year-old never used Windows prior to Windows 95. Twenty is really young?
